Multi-functional venue in Düsseldorf-Rath

May 2005 will see the start of the construction of a new multi-functional venue that will add to Düsseldorf’s attractiveness as a place for business and entertainment. Its location is Theodorstrasse in Düsseldorf-Rath close to the exhibition grounds and the airport. The large facility, which will feature a futuristic design and lend itself to a wide variety of uses, is scheduled for completion in September 2006.

Numerous events, one venue

Flexibility is the hallmark of the new venue. A wide range of events are planned, including up to 50 sports events per year (incl. all home matches of the DEG ice-hockey team) plus 30 shows, rock and pop concerts as well as 10 to 20 large corporate events. Every year, some 750,000 visitors will fill the venue with life at around 100 events.

Exclusive corporate offerings

Companies can use the new venue in Rath for all kinds of events from shareholder meetings to product launches and press conferences. During other events, corporate visitors will also benefit from a special service in the hospitality area, which will include a business club, business seats and VIP boxes. These and other amenities will ensure that guests remain undisturbed and feel perfectly at ease.

The construction works started on 19 May:) Great news, cause the old 'Eisstadion' is not good enough for Dusseldorf for sure.

Why isn´t that arena 5-6,000 seats bigger? It´s nice though.

^There's no need for a bigger arena in Düsseldorf. We already have the LTU Arena with 51.500 seats and unfortunately icehockey isn't that popular in Germany so 12.000 seats are very good.

That the LTU Arena

I can't believe you're from Düsseldorf. Icehockey is more popular in some areas/cities of Germany (I guess Düsseldorf is one of 'em) than football. From the 5 icehockey teams with the highest average attendance in Europe 3 are german (Cologne, Mannheim and Hamburg. All over 10.000 average attendance) and you're saying it isn't that popular :weird: . 10 to 15 years ago your Düsseldorf was the Bayern Munich of german icehockey. Only beaten in a small town where most of todays german MetroStars players learned the game :) .

For icehockey the ISS Dome is said to have a capacity of 13.400. Big enough I agree. I think the MetroStars can top the 10.000 mark on average attendance next season.

Having the luxury boxes stacked on one of the long sides reminds me of Atlanta's Philips Arena.

Not bad.

The new name for the Arena will be "ISS Dome"
ISS? The Danish company? Nice. And fitting, since we cant apparently get of our own ass and build an arena like this in copenhagen...

Anyways, This looks really good. I like it.

I think it's merely called the ISS Dome because they bought the naming rights, not because they actually initiated the construction.

Slick arena though, wish we'd get something like that over here. Alas...

It's really far from city centre, apart from that: I'm loving it.

@cphdude: Yep, it's the danish facility management company.
@th0m: Yep, they just pay for having their name on it. ISS Germany will move to Düsseldorf soon so they are looking for some attention.

What about Düsseldorf's coat of arms? Will it be on the roof?

Molinari

The Düsseldorf coat of arms is the beauty of it! :D

The roof has not been completed yet so I assume the lion and the anchor will be put on as part of the roof top.

Being very interested in both big arenas and icehockey, I went to see a DEG game in the ISS Dome the other day since I was in the area.

Great arena! However, only a little less than 6000 showed up for the first (and only) playoff game for DEG this season, and although they created a great athmosphere, I felt a bit lonely sitting on the top row completely alone with no one near me.

Does DEG play all their games here, or still some games in the hold rink? And what is their average attendace at the dome?

When looking at the arena website, it's not exactly booming with events. Seems like it could be a bit hard making the arena a sound investment with some half full icehockey games and olny a few other events. Does anybody know how the arena is doing in this aspect? The nearby LANXESS Arena in Cologne is probably not making it easier.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great arena. Just wondering about these things, since we're most likely facing some of the same problems here in Denmark where 1 big arena is UC and maybe one more will be soon. None of them will have big sports teams which can fill the arena on a weekly basis.
