Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, located in the heart of Queens, New York City

At 1,255 acres Flushing Meadows Corona Park is one and a half times the size of Manhattan's Central Park.

The Flushing Meadows Corona Park is so big that it plays host to the New York Mets and the US Tennis Open,
The Queens Museum, The New York Hall Of Science, The Queens Zoo, The Queens Botanical Gardens, as well to hundreds, even thousands, of visitors who come for weekend picnics, strolls, soccer games, and other sports.

Every year the Park hosts several festivals, including the Latino Cultural Festival and the Dragon Boats Festival.

The World's Fair was held in the Park twice: in 1938 and again in 1964-65.

Two towers from the 1964-65 World's Fair still dominate the area's skyline.

The Largest Globe in the World: The Unisphere is a beautiful, giant steel globe that sits in the middle of the park.

It is a famous sight in central Queens and is visible to drivers on the LIE, the Grand Central, and Van Wyck,
as well as to airline passengers arriving and departing from LaGuardia and JFK.

The Unisphere is the best symbol of the borough and also one of the largest globes ever made.

Unisphere Design: The Unisphere is 140 feet high and 120 feet in diameter.

It weighs 900,000 pounds. Since the continents are the heaviest parts of the all-steel sculpture and they aren't evenly distributed, the Unisphere is top heavy.

Very top heavy. It was carefully engineered to account for the unbalanced mass.

I have driven past that park hundreds of times as a child, but I have never been in it, except for my attendance of the World's Fair as a 1 year old. It is way past time for NYC to hold another World's Fair. Perhaps this could take the place of the Olympics likely going elsewhere.
