The initiative to create the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw is a joint project of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage on the one hand, and of the Mayor of Warsaw, supported by a resolution of Warsaw Municipal Council, on the other hand.

The authors of the Museum project fully expect that the Museum of Modern Art In Warsaw will stand out among other similar facilities because of the following factors:
- the Museum will house users and processes, rather than spectators and objects;
- the Museum has a unique location adjacent to the Palace of Culture and Science, and hence is endowed with a special moral and historical context;
- the Museum building is an attractive structure;
- the art collection groups high-quality, unique items;
- the Museum intentionally projects its presence into the city’s public space.

A Preliminary Concept for The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw was prepared and adopted by the Museum Programme Advisory Board on August 28, 2005, and subsequently, on September 12, 2005, was recommended by the Board of the Museum as the departure point for further work on the program, as well as for preparations for an international competition for the design of the Museum.

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw will perform several key roles by attracting to art the widest possible group of visitors, as well as by facilitating positive relations between the public and the world of art and culture exemplified by their paramount achievements.

The Museum will stage major artistic events and creative endeavors to attract multiple visitors from Poland and other countries.

The Museum will serve as a place of dialog and reflection upon the condition of modern art in post-1989 Europe. The Museum will host exhibitions of Poland‚ modern and contemporary art presented in its international context.

The Museum will become an area of confrontation between high artistic culture and the market culture represented by cultural industries.

The Museum is meant to become a popular meeting spot, a place to spend leisure time throughout the year. The expected number of visitors will be
800 000 to 1 000 000 per year. The Museum‚ informational and educational offer will be addressed to between 200 000 and 300 000 participants per year.

Wow, I´ve heard, that in Pieniny National park is contemplated the project like this, but didn´t see the visualisation yet. When is the construction estimated to start? Thanks :)

Not sure I like the planned bridge for Pieniny. I like the idea of a pedestrian bridge, but I think something a little more low key would work better. Something like that would be much better for a city.

Daring projects change Poland's face

From skyscrapers to unique shaped glass-roof shopping centers and old factories turned into multifunctional centers, several large-scale real estate projects make Poland the most attractive country for investment in Central and Eastern Europe.

Warsaw has become in recent years a haven for property and real estate investors, as economic growth and European Union accession have driven foreign investors to come to Poland. This May, the third edition of the Central and Eastern Europe Property and Investment Fair (CEPIF) will be organized in Warsaw, as the city is seen as the heart of investment in the real estate field in CE Europe. To prepare for the fair, CEPIF organizers took foreign journalists on a two-day tour to see some of the most important projects under construction in the country.

Currently, more than any other Central and Eastern European capital, Warsaw needs as many office spaces and houses as constructors can build. Several architects and managers of projects that are currently under final planning or under construction said most of the space is bought or rented even before the first brick of a building is placed in the foundation.

One of the biggest residential projects in Warsaw is Miasteczko Wilanow, a long-term project which is expected to be finished in 10 years at the latest. It includes apartment blocks for all the social ranks - from cheaper one-room apartments for young people to penthouses for wealthy families. The residential complex will also have a small town-like shopping center and a church, according to one of the project's managers, Guy Perry. Companies from eight countries are involved in the project, which is going to be a small town of its own, when completed.

Although only a few blocks of flats have been finished, the request for houses is so high that apartments are sold even before constructors are able to dig the foundations. Perry offered as an example the Spanish company Fadessa, which has already sold most of the apartments that it is going to build in the next few years, even before putting its sales pavilion into place.
Another daring residential project is a future skyscraper destined for the heart of Warsaw. The project has been designed by the famous architect Daniel Libeskind, the winner of the contest for New York's World Trade Center memorial.

The skyscraper will provide 271 luxury apartments and a wide range of additional services and facilities available to its occupants, including a 25-meter-long swimming pool, sauna, spa, private party area, yoga room, fitness club, and sun terrace. Orco Property Group, which is handling the construction, estimates that the project, expected to be completed in 2008, will be the most luxurious apartment building in Poland.

Also in the heart of Warsaw, The Zlote Tarasy (Golden Terraces) complex, with shopping and entertainment centers and a building for offices is to open this year.

The Zlote Tarasy development is currently the largest of its type in Poland, and one of the largest in Europe. This 400 million euro project is aimed to become a state-of-the-art 225,000 square meter retail and entertainment location.

Zlote Tarasy will be protected from the elements by a glass roof creating the ambience of an external shopping center and, with the addition of heating and cooling systems, will be comfortable in the harshest of Polish winters. Thousands of pieces of glass, almost each one having a unique shape, were necessary for the roof, which will provide visitors a spectacular view of the surrounding buildings.

The office building of the complex will be called Lumen (light), because its semi-circular shape captures sunlight all day long. Although it will not be finished until September, the office spaces have been rented almost entirely.

Two hours away by car, another large-scale project is under construction in the city of Lodz, the second largest in Poland. Built as an industrial city, Lodz lacks a real city center and was not a target for modern facilities until recently. However, an old textile factory is now being turned into a complex which will include a hotel, a mall, a multiplex cinema, a discotheque and a square for concerts. Except for the mall, all the other facilities are to be built in the old factory building, which cannot be modified on the outside because the 100-year-old building is an architectural monument.
Moreover, the complex will include a 300-meter-long light and music fountain, which is to be the longest in Europe. The shopping center will be finished this May, and the rest of the complex, in the following years.

Actually Rzeczpospolita chose already a different location, Prosta Office Center. So this is going to be built for some other company apparently, or just an office for rent. :dunno:

About Centrum Belvedere, it will be located next to Intraco I as you see on the render, so a new little cluster will be formed. It will have around
51.000 m², 24+1 floors on surface and 3 floors underground.
I guess it will have around 90 meters, but no specific info available as yet.

The Manufaktura complex being developed by Apsys on the edge of the prime retail area in Łódź.

It will provide approximately 100,000 sq m of shopping and leisure floorspace.

This is a redevelopment project of a former industrial, historical listed area (27 hectares plot). A marketplace will be the central part of the architectural design surrounded by restaurants, cafes, entertainment facilities (a bowling alley, discos) and sports facilities (a skate park, climbing wall, fitness club, swimming pool). The leisure component of the scheme will include a 15 - screen Cinema City multiplex cinema (including IMAX). In addition, the complex will include a Museum of Contemporary Art, which will be developed by the Łodz voivodship.

Ring road to circle Warsaw by 2012?

Warsaw may receive a new ring road junction worth zł.12billion by 2012.

The General Direction of Domestic Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has come to an agreement with the Ministry of Transport and the acting Mayor of Warsaw on to the details of the investment, which will be financed by the state budget and EU subsidies. The southern section of the ring road is expected to be completed by 2009 at a cost of zł.2.34billion, while 2008 should see the completion of the next section of A2 motorway Stryków-Warsaw North, worth zł.1.3billion. After this, the road will be built across Warsaw to its eastern outskirts, at a cost of over zł.1billion, with completion expected between 2008 -10, and finally the eastern part will meet the southern edge in 2008-2012, consuming the final zł.2billion. This is the likely final outlook of Sky Tower and Center South from a profile.
According to trusted sources of Wrocław forumers, the Center South towers could grow further even by 20 meters or so, compared to initial project.
Also, the "Wrocław" Hotel (located on the picture to the right of the Center South) will be sold soon, and is likely to be demolished and replaced by 1-2 skyscrapers more.

We let the outsiders have their own thread here only for the biggest and most important projects, not for some lowrises, and certainly not to have this photospamming to throw as many pictures as possible for no reason.
I see some highrises, that's great, just focus on them, give us some updates, give us links to the general threads in the polish or international section, but please don't do this again

Wow I am starting to believe that Wroclaw and Poznan are developing faster then any other city in Poland....besides Warsaw. Good job!

Nice projects, it seems that more and more cities in Europe are getting modern skylines. The modern skyline of Wroclaw will probably be comparable to skylines of Tallinn/Vilnius/Riga. Just one thing which I don't like in South Centre - too many identical towers.

^^ This is another tower that the jews are trying to build. Supposadly it's a competition between the two and only one is supposed to be built, but they are not in the same location and they are completly diffrent projects for two diffrent investors.

A new face for an ugly street

The renovation of Pasaż Wiecha in Warsaw's downtown is complete.

Warsaw's Pasaż Wiecha has been fully opened to the public after a six-month renovation. The pedestrian street, behind the Galeria Centrum department store, has been redeveloped by DTC Real Estate, which owns the Wars, Sawa and Junior buildings.

The street and the buildings around it were constructed in the 1960s and are part of the city center's commercial area. Pasaż Wiecha was originally inspired by Rotterdam's Lijnbaan passage, which was the first traffic-free shopping space in Europe. The idea of revitalizing the street was first mooted three years ago and a contest was held by the Warsaw branch of the Polish Architects' Association. The winners were Mass s.c. and Bulanda and Mucha Architects.

"The renovation of Pasaż Wiecha has always been considered the first step to a complete revitalization of the area between ul. Marszałkowska, Krakowskie Przedmieście and Plac Trzech Krzyży," said Patric Decol, CEO of DTC Real Estate, the renovation's investor.

Decol added that, with the current development of bigger shopping malls, Poland and Warsaw in particular should develop its main city-center trade streets. Such a trend has been present in all major western cities.

The cost of the renovation, of 4,000 sqm of space, was over zł.6 million. DTC will also cover the street's maintenance costs, as well as electric power, security and cleaning.

Europes Tallest Resi Planned In Wroclaw Poland

The south-western Polish city of Wroclaw in Lower Silesia plans to build what could be Europe's tallest residential tower as part of a massive housing development.
The 207 metre tall, 50 floor imaginatively named Sky Tower is the tallest element of this three tower scheme. Flanked by 138m and 87m towers, the tip of the spire will be reaching to the grand height of 222 metres.
The development is being run by Polish billionaire Leszek Czarnecki, who failed in his attempts to become a space tourist. Using his company LC Corp, he plans to invest $400 million into the scheme in his hometown hoping it will be a magnet for the new wealthy of Poland.
The architecture of the development sees a large square four floor podium occupying the entirety of the site with everything set on top. The edges of the podium will be lined with further ten floor blocks punctuated by gateway space between them and another block cutting diagonally from one end to the other.
Internally these will overlook private gardens supported on top of the podium. The main tower to one corner of the project will be linked to the opposite corner by a four floor sky-bridge soaring above the outdoor space and topped with roof gardens.
This is just the latest attempt to move away from the commie-block past that blights vast areas of Polish cities. Indeed this site is surrounded by dozens of concrete hulks from the cold-war era and with its sheer blockiness has some of their brutalism in it.
This should be negated though by the generous balconies punctuating the exterior of the scheme and creating a visual rhythm whilst the tower itself shows off some nifty architectural flair including a cantilever halfway up it.
The project won't be starting until 2007 at the earliest as LC Corp need an injection of equity into it first by an additional rights issue of shares and also bank loans, but once it gets going it should be one small step away from Wroclaw's concrete past.

It looks...interesting...not sure if I like it or not. The interlinking bridge does look pretty kool, but the overall impression I get of the tower is rather...not sure what the word is...maybe 'cluttered' and a bit tacky?? But I guess I could grow to like it. Just at the moment though, some of the design features are making it look a bit like an expensive commie block....

Poltegor will probably destroy in March or April.

Sky Tower follows the contemporary trends in Asian residential architecture.
It doesn't mean good or bad. It's been around for a decade or so.
If built in Manila, Bangkok, Shenzen or Kuala Lumpur, nobody would even
notice it.

There are some gossips that architects are changing whole project, but height of those towers will be the same.

Personally I hate this bridge between the towers, I think that the quality of project is rather poor. Sky tower looks more Asian than European and it remainds me stronghold. Its just to boxy. I hope that new project will be something from the 1st class.....:)

Sky Tower won't be small island in the middle of commies. Behind the towers you can see some empty area. Spanish investor "Grupo Prasa" bought this plot, and he wants to build there huge office complex with hotel and apartments, the highest tower will have 130 m. I'm sure that the rest of commies will be throw down in the future, but its far than close future.
Sky Tower with the Grupo Prasa will create Wroclaws business discrit. And I'm sure that this discrit will grow, and those ugly commies will be replaced by modern architecture.

Luxembourg architect Rob Krier is interested in redeveloping the neighborhood around the Łódź Fabryczna railway station, which has been designated a new city center.

Born in 1938, the architect says that design should pursue normality, as normality is one of the most important tasks for every architect. "Most architects complicate things," Krier says. "Meanwhile, a door is just a door and a window is just a window."

Many say that Krier, who is also an urban planner and a sculptor, is the right person to restore the area's historic architecture to its former splendor. According to experts, the project needs somebody who will take the place's identity into consideration and reconstruct what was devastated rather than building everything anew.

Krier has created urban development designs for numerous places in Europe, including a shopping and administration center in The Hague and the Batavia port district in Leylystad, the Netherlands.

The initiative to invite Krier to the project came from the World Art Foundation, established by American film director David Lynch, Łódź-based businessman Andrzej Walczak and Marek Żydowicz, director of the Camerimage festival. The three own a historic, 100-year-old EC-1 heat-and-power plant, located near the railway station and shut down a long time ago. The building will become home to an art gallery, a movie studio for Lynch with a large hall for symphony recording sessions and post-production.

"This will be a place to carry out artistic ideas in different domains, not just cinema," Żydowicz said, adding that "it is important for the foundation to make sure it works as an integral part of the neighborhood and not in isolation."

The foundation would also like to build a festival venue with thousands of seats. "Poland does not have an actual festival center," Żydowicz said."This would be the first and would host Camerimage as well as other festivals, events and conventions in Łódź."

According to the preliminary land development plans, which the World Art Foundation has prepared, railway tracks will go underground and the historic station building will find a new use. Hotels, apartment buildings and restaurants will open in the neighborhood, and there may even be a museum and technology park. Żydowicz says this will attract artists from across the globe, which, in turn, will create new opportunities, and perhaps investors will follow.

"If everything goes well, perhaps in four years from now the Camerimage festival will be taking place in the new city center," Żydowicz said. "Wishful thinking? A bit, yes, but it is realistic too."

These are the latest renderings. IMO, not as good as the original :(
Tower is higher though, 220 meters, or 245?? with the spire.
So in fact it might become the talles building in Poland (Palace of Culture and Science has only 238m) :)

I think they're ugly. The facade looks too messy... too many shapes, too many cladding styles.

The project would have looked ok if there was only the taller tower, without its fat little brother, and if it didn't have those balconies in the lower part.

Wroclaw is the greatest "tiger" of polish economy(the second largest financial center in Poland). So, skyscrapers are built by private developers and they sometimes prefer Wroclaw then Warsaw.

Perun, congrats for this thread!:cheers: Neat collection of projects I must say, and many seem to be taken out of London forums, which is good, at least IMO. Some of these really got my attention:
Złota 44 - because of it's height and interesting shape, far from your classic Warsaw "box" (which I also love :)).
Prosta Tower - again, interesting shape.
Pałac Saski - looks great and it's good to see such projects in the 21st century. Great public space!
Banderii 4 - some may say it's just an ordinary project, or that is just a commie with a glass facade, but to be honest, it blows me away! Simple and clean design... :bow: Do you have more pictures?

First off, Wroclaw is becoming an amazing city skyscraper wise.
Secondly... Why doesn't Poland have their own divion of this forum where all the Polish cities and projects can be found. I mean there is certainly enough projects that are going on....

Recently Lilium, one of BSR's subsidiaries, announced plans to build a 257-meter-tall skyscraper on Al. Jerozolimskie in Warsaw, right beside the Marriot hotel. The property will compete with Orco's nearby Złota 44.
"As long as the the Polish property market continues to grow and developers are enjoying favorable conditions, Israeli investors will come to Poland," said Avi Friedman, economic attaché at the Israeli Embassy. He also confirmed that the economic department of the embassy continously receives inquiries from new developers regarding entering the Polish market.

I just wonder why Polish architects just mimic bland Western architecture whereas they could make something a bit more original with maybe some allusions to vernacular architecture.
