It's already after midnight, but I try (excuse my spelling), was never in Poland: Warsaw, Krakow, Gdanzg, Worsclaw, Katovic, Poznan, Torin, Lodz

Yes, Oświęcim (Auschwitz) is a city with some 40,000 population located near Katowice. Of course, the camp wasn't located in the city center, but rather on the outskirts.

I also didn't know that there is actually a city - that's why I mentioned it in the post... but that means that the camp had much more people in as the the city pop - like Dachau :(
