View Full Version : Couple'a Brisbane Pics from a Citycat
marty_k June 14th, 2005, 01:00 PM My girlfriend got a new camera last week, so like any good boyfriend I stole it and snapped a couple of pics of the city :D
I've used thumbnails so this thread remains dialup-friendly while still packing photos of a decent resolution. You also need to remember I snapped these on a rapidly-moving ferry so they aren't "OMGWTF!!!1" quality.
Shot 1: View of city from Bulimba.

Shot 2: View of city from Hawthorne (note the new model Citycat sitting across the river. As of today they now have two!)

Shot 3: View of city just before the Citycat stops at Mowbray Park in East Brisbane. It's a fantastic view with the smaller towers of Kangaroo Point in front.

Enjoy :)
Grantus June 14th, 2005, 03:12 PM good one! Last is my fav.... Thats kangaroo point in the foreground isnt it? Because at first glance i thought admirality quays got a face lift :P
A ride on the city cat is a definate must when i come down next, and to see the fabulouse skyline from the SB side as you go past is a must in my books.
ferramont June 15th, 2005, 12:09 AM mine too! never been to Australia, but it's good anyway!
Aussie Bhoy June 15th, 2005, 05:19 AM Lovely pics, I love the City Cats, the views from them are great, and they fly along too. I'm glad they are putting in a couple more stops.
CULWULLA June 15th, 2005, 06:25 AM nice! last pic looks so dense. Aurora popping up
BrizzyChris June 15th, 2005, 09:29 AM Those new CityCats look awesome! Apart from the current 2, is there plans to introduce more in the near future?
marty_k June 15th, 2005, 02:18 PM Not that I'm aware of. In the last year I have only ever heard Campbell talk about "putting an extra Citycat in the river" which means only another one. I'm waiting for them to replace the entire fleet with the new ones. They seat more people, are more spacious and they have a plasma TV in there which gives the occasional brain-teaser... :D
Orfeo June 16th, 2005, 03:05 AM ^
they're not going to be replacing the fleet any time soon - they're only a few years old.....Also they are planning on getting more boats "new fleet aquisition of higher capacity boats in the latest high speed catamaran designs" (* (www.innerwestchamber.com.au/ Files/transport_plan_action_plan.pdf)) just not necessarily the large ones.
Great photos, especially the last one.
uewepuep June 17th, 2005, 03:34 AM Great shots! Too high resolution though! I can't fit the bastards on my screen.
ABS June 17th, 2005, 11:23 AM They are excellent pics considering the citycat was moving.
zachary24 June 17th, 2005, 04:32 PM The first citycats where introduced nearly 8 years ago. Another new city cat is currently being constructed. The city council has decided not to replace the small city ferry's with the proposed "midi-cats" (smaller city cats) and decided to purchase 3 more of the brand new city cats - so we will have 5 of the newer ones and like 8-9 of the older ones
Grantus June 17th, 2005, 04:40 PM ^ thats quite a fleet there. I still gotta make my way down there to ride on one for the first time not just for transport, but to see lovely brisbane the way it should be seen :)
marty_k June 18th, 2005, 03:44 AM ... Another new city cat is currently being constructed.
That would probably be the second of the new ones that started operation in the last week. At least I assume so because when I boarded it on Tuesday (after Monday's public holiday) it smelt entirely new and looked as if it was yet to be dirtied up by a full day's operation :)
More new ones are always welcome. The old ones, while still functional, are now at the stage where they are barely adequate for passenger comfort. The interiors are old and worn, etc.
Finally, I heard that the proposed mini-Citycats were to be called "Kittycats" or something. Probably a joke, but interesting nonetheless :)
zachary24 June 18th, 2005, 02:27 PM yeah they were original called kittycats - then changed to midicats - but now the entire plan has been shelved
