ferge June 17th, 2005, 12:18 AM Cool and original pics, like the way they're framed by the ferry's windows..
That small, humble little cluster really is becoming my fave cluster in the UK, lol.. I just love it and this is just the beginning.
birminghamculture June 17th, 2005, 12:18 AM Ohhh the first one looks like entering New York - I tell you what Liverpool really deserves a great skyline, and I think its the best place for the UK to get world wide recognition for its skylines. Keep building tall

tommygunn June 17th, 2005, 02:13 AM i bet the wind was quite strong out there it always is even on warm days.
Yapachoo June 17th, 2005, 02:42 AM Poli they are great shots! I love shipping photos , especially the first one, looks nice and congested :D
Doug Roberts June 17th, 2005, 10:34 AM The shipping activity on the river looks so right, like bangers and mash, fish and chips!! Liverpool and its river are at their very best with ships around.
Great pics Poli thanks for reminding us.
Damon June 17th, 2005, 11:50 AM Those are good pics mate - I like the slightly unusual viewpoints.
JDN21 June 17th, 2005, 12:21 PM View from a Mersey Ferry in a few years time, complete with Princes Dock towers, St.Pauls Sq, Beetham 2 and Unity all complete;

Toadboy June 17th, 2005, 12:33 PM Great to see Unity poking it's head through the mass.
Top pics.
Yapachoo June 17th, 2005, 02:06 PM Fantastic render JDN, could you enlarge it at all though?
tommygunn June 17th, 2005, 02:09 PM very impressed with that render looks very proffesianal.

Bit of a Guinness advert vibe there? :P
Gherkin June 17th, 2005, 02:34 PM Wow great rendering! Liverpool's catching up with Manchester and Birmingham. It's skyline looks great by the Mersey, the newer buildings remind me of Miami a bit. Juat needs better weather!
tommygunn June 17th, 2005, 02:47 PM Wow great rendering! Liverpool's catching up with Manchester and Birmingham. It's skyline looks great by the Mersey, the newer buildings remind me of Miami a bit. Juat needs better weather!
catchting up liverpools skyline is better.
Delboy June 17th, 2005, 04:02 PM i've been waiting for a final rendering like that for ages, fantastic! It's nice to see where all the buildings will fit in to the overall skyline. From certain angles over ere on the Wirral, there are still huge gaps between some of the tall buildings, so anything in between, say for example the burnt out pub opposite beetham would lend it self to another beetham two! keep me fingers crossed!
Liverdude June 17th, 2005, 04:13 PM Great pics, love they way the cluster is framed by the windows!
After seeing the height of the Unity office tower core, the residential tower should be taller than the RSA meaning that waterfront rendering was scaled down.

i think we all knew that unity is going to big they tried to make it look sqaut when its actually tall.
JDN21 June 17th, 2005, 04:21 PM Fantastic render JDN, could you enlarge it at all though?
How big do you want it? The original is massive, using a very high resolution because it is an image that has been published. But, because I am using imageshack to host it, I have to scale it down so I can upload it.
Scarecrow June 17th, 2005, 04:29 PM Do it as big as Imageshack will allow you to!
Yapachoo June 17th, 2005, 04:37 PM Yep Bunnyman is right! It needs to be huuuuge! Very high quality rendering, I love the effect with the cruise ship as well :D
sloyne June 17th, 2005, 04:56 PM The shipping activity on the river looks so right, like bangers and mash, fish and chips!! Liverpool and its river are at their very best with ships around.
And will look even better when the likes of these are alongside "The Lanney". http://img228.echo.cx/img228/6035/2002cruise11609ve.jpg (http://www.imageshack.us)
PS: taken in Bridgetown Barbados.
bustcapl June 17th, 2005, 05:07 PM good effort poli, i still find nothing more enjoyable than an hour spent on the mersey ferry, it really does bring it all home!
tommygunn June 17th, 2005, 05:39 PM so new landing stage will be able to handle the big one on the right.
sloyne June 17th, 2005, 05:58 PM so new landing stage will be able to handle the big one on the right.
Yes it will, actually the "big one on the right" is only about 85,000 tons and considered to be mid-size in todays ctruise market. The new landing stage will accommodate the largest cruise liners afloat, ships like RCCL's Adventure & Navigator of the Seas and Carnivals Triumph & Destiny etc all ships above 100,000 tons. The length, beam and height of the ship should have little bearing on it's tying up alongside the new stage, drought is the criteria and as, almost, all modern cruise liners draw 8 meters or less there should be no problem with accepting any cruise ship.

very good news sloyne the worlds biggest liners will be comeing to liverpool makes you wonder why this stage wasnt built earlier but at least its getting built now.
tommygunn June 17th, 2005, 06:20 PM the sapphire princess is a big liner by the way.
sloyne June 17th, 2005, 06:25 PM the worlds biggest liners will be comeing to liverpool makes you wonder why this stage wasnt built earlier.
Certainly make me wonder. I have been proposing this type of facility since the 'Garden Festival'. I have been in touch with almost every council leader since then. Even David Henshaw seemed quite cool to the idea when I first proposed it saying he "would pass it on to the tourist committee" on council. I also received a TWO word reply to my suggestion from Mike Storey and it said "Good idea". The best response I received from anyone Liverpool (elected) official was from John Hamilton who was very enthousiastic but, he said he doubted whether or not he could get councils backing for something that would involve the M.D.&.H.C..
oscar9 June 17th, 2005, 06:35 PM Great photos! Are there any 500ft+ towers proposed near the beetham tower sites. That would be a fantastic cluster if so. I hope these world heritage tossers dont get there way in Liverpool limiting the construction of scrapers. The potential for a world class skyline is there.

Yes, ive posted some pictures taken from the 18th floor (which is highest point on the Strand side), wasn't followed by anyone although cctv probably followed me. You must look dodgy or something. :)
JUXTAPOL June 17th, 2005, 08:09 PM Liverpolitan..
They are great pics, like the rope one with out of focus waterfront, very arty.
Gazzab June 19th, 2005, 01:05 AM Liverpolitan, JDN - great pics fellas.

I would be better still if the council weren't so backward thinking. :bash:
Just hope English Heritage aren't too much of an influence also.
Blabbernsmoke June 19th, 2005, 09:31 PM Thanks for the pics Poli. I went on the ferry myself a few weeks ago, but stupidly left my camera in York. I kept thinking as the boat passed the Central Docks area- imagine what the skyline will look like in 8 years time- stretching (I hope) from the Tobacco warehouse to the end of Kings Dock, and on to Brunswick Quay. One thing I think is for sure, the skyline is going to change dramatically over the next decade.
Hopefully, as all the new build appears NIMBY-esque attitudes will decline both amongst the local population and especially in the council. After all, it will take some doing in a few years time to turn down a modern tower along the water front when there is Unity, Beetham 2, etc.

Its not my site, but a friends from Sweden who came over and we took him and another from down south out for the day and night!
Spreading a bit of scouse pride as you do.

If Beetham 2 turns out as good as the renderings the I think people may accept modern highrise easier. Beetham 1 has become part of the skyline now that it'd look wierd with out it, West Tower will change the view even more dramatically with it's height and location.
Paul D June 19th, 2005, 09:47 PM A couple of bevvies on the ferry,now that's class.
Gareth June 20th, 2005, 02:10 PM The more 20ish storey buildings we get, the less controversial buildings of such a scale become. In turn they pave the way for yet bigger buildings so I think shortly, we will get more proposals over 30 storeys and so on.

Very true. Its also good that the 20ish mike buildings are located right on the waterfront, meaning that any buildings built further inland will have to be taller.
Paul D June 20th, 2005, 02:27 PM Very true. Its also good that the 20ish mike buildings are located right on the waterfront, meaning that any buildings built further inland will have to be taller.
I like the way your thinking.
kung_fuzi June 20th, 2005, 03:16 PM Me too.
Damon June 20th, 2005, 03:27 PM I also very much enjoy the fact that the word 'storey' has now been completely supplanted by the word 'mike' on this forum. So much so that I barely notice it any more.
kung_fuzi June 20th, 2005, 03:41 PM Amaxing how these things catch on.
Scarecrow June 20th, 2005, 03:42 PM I'm just surprised it hasn't been usurped by the word 'gobshite'. :)
"Beetham West will be 40 gobshites tall".

I like your thinking too Dicky, now get yourself on the council.
JUXTAPOL June 27th, 2005, 12:57 AM Had a little ferry trip myself today in the georgeous weather, first time in about 15 years, was fantastic. The view of the waterfront does look impressive, and to think what it will look like in 2008 when a lot of the developments are finished. Have taken about 100 pics, so will post a selection of the best in various relevant threads.
Here is a starter.

Scarecrow June 27th, 2005, 01:07 AM I bet he still harks on to his mates about the days when he was a roadie for the Beautiful South. Sad act.
