Which cities in the world have restricted access? How is it controlled?
How is controlled that non-Moslems do not enter Mecca and Medina? Are Mecca and Medina fenced in?

most of pyonyang, N. Korea is restricted, the goverment only allows you to see the nice parts.

i saw a really creppy satelital pic once where you could see the lights of south korea but north korea was totally black.

I heard that's because all the energy for lighting has been used for monuments and government buildings and the rest of the pop doesn't have enough energy...

Maybe for you because of the US Embargo. But for Europeans Cuba is a very important holiday destination...

La Havana

Really La Havana? I have friends who went and could visit almost all of the city. Obviously you cant express criticism with the communism (as all dictatorships) but it doesn't blocks you to see what u want (except restricted military areas, which in fact, is like other countries).

Yeah, but I think not for Americans. For us Europeans it's a normal country as I said, but because of the "shame" of 63 the embargo against the country makes it very difficult for American citizans to go there because I think you are not allowed to enter the US anymore when you have a stamp of Cuba in your passport ;)

to get this fixed... that satellite pic didnt show actual ILLUMINATIONS of a city, but rather ideas and patents coming from countries. the more ideas and patents the more bright spots. look at Finland and u get the idea (especially NOKIA areas)

Foreigners can go anywhere they wan't in cuba (expet military areas, which is normal), the only thing they are not allowed to is to sleep at local's homes.

What about Riad in SA? It must be also very restrictive as I heard. I remember Michael Palin was not even allowed to bring his film team with him driving through the country in his Around the World in 80 Days documentary.

Aboriginal Land Is restricted in Australia. You need a permit to enter this land but it's in the desert anyway so your not missing out on much.

Not true, it's possible to visit both countries. Even North-Korea allows small numbers of travellers. The only cities which are truelly forbidden (exept militairy cities etc.) are Mecca and Medina for non-muslims. Saudi-Arabia is even harder to visit for a traveller than North-Korea...

I just remember: the most secret place that no one ever can enter without a very special permission and especially no women, is this one:

Vladivostok was forbidden because it was the biggest soviet military harbour in the Pacific ocean...

So for military reasons it has been closed during years
