Great photos teh-ir, hal kardam, btw, is it true that most of shahrak gharb's houses are being destroyed for apartments? heyfe

and also, the pics from the streets from above are really good, because u can see the houses and all, and the houses look good, very specific tehran style, it would be great to actually have street level pics of those kouche pas khouche, i wish i took many like that wen i went on my trip last year.

well, I don't know about that, I don't think so, if they want to do something like that, they can do it in other parts of Tehran like Shoush and Shohada, where everythings is ready to fall apart any moment Haha, I'll try to put more pics here :)

this image is looking north from the historic centre

the old style building in front is a large complex of iran's national (old imperial) bank, and the national court, located beside the golestan palace and the bazar, the heart of tehran, its an amazing place

the tall rectangular building towards the north is in the famous "toopkhaneh-square" which used to be a beautiful building and square (u can see it in google), this building replaced the old one and i believe its for communications etc

i will put the coordinates on later :)

Very nice pictures. Tehran actually is very beautiful and pleasant if you take the pollution and traffic out. I heard the best time to go there is Norouz holidays when big portion of its population and cars are out of town.

its places like these that really need to be organized urgently, its one of the most important places in iran, its should be better than this, all the crappy buildings around it should be taken down and replaced with buildings that are similar in style to the parliament itself, meaning traditional archtecture

hassan abad square, a model for the rest of tehran, and other cities aswell
although it still is a bit messy
these photos are old, and date before the renovation of the square, the square is now paved with stone instead of asphalt and has been cleaned and organized, looks much greater than the pics

What street is this, I was in a taxi one day and went up this long curving street and was amused as it was an odd design for Tehran. Is this Pre-American street pland. As to me it has a hint of a Parisian boulevard.
well it must be somewhere central Tehran...so probably it is yeah, but I hate that street, infact you have many of them in Central Tehran and even worse looking....if it was for me, I would demolish them all!!!! haha, it looks like a street from central Baghdad or something or even Pakistan...

It is quite environmentally damaging to do that, there is many options for making this street more pleasent.
1)Enlarge the side walks by two metres on either side.
2) Plant trees along the sides of the road
3)Create a designated bus lane
4) Narrow the road to three lanes
5) Create cafes with awnings along the edge

And that would improve the road

The buildings could be renovated on the fronts, washed and cleaned to be a bit more presentable.

Oh and one last thing build specific bike storage areas, if you cannot park your bike there then it will be removed and crushed.

You see the problem you have with the photo I am guessing is the overbearing nature of the tall buildings up the road, but if you planted some mid hight trees along this road and widened the pavement it would see to bring the shape of the view to more eye level. Old interior design trick adapted.

the main issue is the buildings, they should be destroyed and 1850-1900s persian style buildings should be built instead, in the same size

after that, the perfect thing is to do what you said, street side cafes, trees, wider sidwalks but maybe not the bus lane.

theatre shahr, tehran's main theatre house, built in 1346 (1967) by bijan sabeti and sardar afkhami, its a beautiful building that is in my opinion one of the greatest buildings of contemporary persian architecture

The last one was my favourite. Its about Iran and Iranian people. What dont you get about it? My favourites were the guy selling trowsers who lookes a bit fed up, the guy selling parsley or whatever that is, the brother and sister in Hamedan and the three guys in the street laughing. Really artistic and sympathetic. He's found beauty in ordinary things and people and makes you realise its all around us.

It showed an accurate picture of street life warts and all plus some things that make Iran unique. your missing my point, im not embarresed about anything, im more proud of our poor , im proud of everything, im embarrased about those guys that do so many nose jobs they look like mokeys, and the sissies thay allways say in the stupid cnn interviews "we want to go to america etc".

You know I used too see many homeless in cities across the UK especially in Glasgow, but in recent years they have disappeared apart from the ones who play flute to the drunk people on a night out in town.

The break down of people on the streets in Tehran is this;
1) Street Children, hussled together to sell PK gum and other things by asses.
2) Immigrants, whether it be from far away in Iran or Afghanistan, Pakistan.
3 Drug addicts, due to some social problem they are now on the streets
4) People who have fallen on hard times.

I can't think of any other groups that usually end up on the street. I always felt incredibly guilty when I walk past those little kids on the streets though. Ahh, it breaks my heart to think of them being abused by horrible hustlers. :(

Ashura like it or not is part of Irans's culture. Its another thing that makes Iran Iran. You wont see people doing this in Slovenia or Istanbul. Everywhere has their own religious rituals. If you are a tourist and you go to Iran at that time, you will see people doing it and its memorable. If you dont like it so what. Its not like its showing anything false. It didnt really show a butcher just some bakers then a plate of sheep's heads. Again if you are walking down a street and someone's selling sheep's heads, wheather you like them or not its not like you are not going to notice. It might be the one thing in the whole street that makes it different from a street in Russia or anywhere else. I really liked this video. I watched it a few times. It makes me want to go back to Iran. Reminds me how friendly people are compared to other places I visited recently.

Well they have to price people out of driving like the UK then you start to reconsider, then try and beat the UK by keep public transport efficient and affordable. If you can do this then your onto a winner. But the problem for the government would be made far worse if importing tariffs weren't so high. Imagine the importing of cars without tax.

Apart the emission problem and laying off the entire of car manufacturing industries. They would go down in 12 months if this happened. So better to keep the tariffs and keep Saipa and IKCO going.

^^ The problem is that so many if the cars in Iran are old and do not have a proper filter system, therefore the air gets very polluted. If people would sell their crappy paykans and prides and buy new cars, this wouldn't be a such big problem. Older cars also require more fuel than new cars.

The rain has taken its victims already. Trend News Agency said a building has collapsed due to the rain and its age. 2 people dead officially (http://en.trend.az/news/incident/1951400.html). My office this morning saw water spouting from a newly painted wall. Got onto the roof and we had 50 litres on top at least! As a am originally from the UK I am used to this miserable weather, but my colleagues are still finding it a thrill. My own house is starting with damp patches on the ceiling this morning, not great as it is around 60 years old.

What do you mean?That it doesnt rain so often in Tehran, and if the Alborz mountains wouldnt block all the humidity flowing in from north Iran it would rain much more often, and that house which collapsed probably has the same quality as others built the same time, so imagine how that would end...
