Confiteria del Molino in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Former Del Molino Café and Bakery. Now closed, until 1997 the Confiiteria del Molino halls were located in the main floor. This traditional establishment opened its doors facing the corner of Rodriguez Peña and Rivadevia Street under the direction of Constantino Rossi and Cayetano Brenna in 1859. A flour mill located in the surrounding area was the source of inspiration for its name.
Between 1905 and 1914 the café functioned in a place opposite the National Congress. In 1917, on the same place, the building designed by Italian Architect Francesco Gionotti was erected and from then on, the café did not move. It is a singular version of art nouveau style; the flour mill sails in the corner upper part are the emblematic part of the edifice. The café was located on the main floor, the first and second floors were devoted to parties and the three basements were destined to production, wine cellar and ice manufacture. Many importants politicians met at its tables, socialist Arturo Palacios, radicals politians Arturo Illia and Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear.
