I think everyone will agree that this is a fantastic orgasm generating stadium but imo the club made a big mistake with the different roof design from the recently renewed main stand.
Too bad, but still close to perfection.

They added a new row this summer, adding a total of 900 additional seats (source: http://www.as.com/futbol/articulo/bernabeu-estrena-900-localidades/20110821dasdaiftb_44/Tes).

http://s5.as.com/recorte/20110821dasdaiftb_33/XLCO/Ies/20110821dasdaiftb_33.jpg

So the new capacity is 81'254. The VIP aera is not included in this number (according to the article above). With them it's 85'454.

I think in newspapers they always give an attendance of 79'500 if the stadium is full, doesn't matter if it's a league or a CL game.

FROM UEFA WEBSITE
The Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid will host the 2010 UEFA Champions League final, with UEFA awarding the same season's UEFA Cup final to the Arena Hamburg.

Key criteria
The UEFA Executive Committee confirmed the selection of the two stadiums after its meeting in Liechtenstein on Friday but postponed a decision on the venues for the 2011 finals to allow members more time to consider the bids. The home stadiums of Real Madrid CF and Hamburger SV were chosen on the basis of capacity, facilities, accommodation and security among other considerations.

Famous finals
Now boasting a capacity of 71,569, the Santiago Bernabéu has staged three previous European Champion Clubs' Cup finals. Real Madrid won the first of them, beating AC Fiorentina 1-0 in 1957, before AC Milan had a memorable night in the Spanish capital when they defeated AFC Ajax 4-1 in the 1969 edition. More recently, Nottingham Forest FC overcame Hamburg 1-0 in the 1980 final.

International finals
The Santiago Bernabéu has also held the home legs of two UEFA Cup finals and two European/South American Cup games involving Madrid, together with several major international matches – notably the final of the 1964 UEFA European Championship where Spain beat the Soviet Union 2-1, and the 1982 FIFA World Cup final which Italy won 3-1 against West Germany.

Important games
Seating 51,680, the Arena Hamburg opened in 2000 on the site of Hamburg's old Volksparkstadion and was the setting for matches at the 2006 World Cup. The Volksparkstadion also hosted group-stage games at the 1974 World Cup and the semi-final of the 1988 UEFA European Championship, where West Germany lost 2-1 to the Netherlands.

And we have this UEFA article

carnifex2005

What I love about the Bernabéu is that it has the best lighting in the world for an outdoor stadium. If you were looking at a TV feed without seeing the entire stadium, it would seem that it is almost an indoor stadium with grass when you see how bright it is on the field. I wonder how they do it (especially in a stadium of that size)?

Really strange about the capacity. I really can't imagine it losing 10k+ seats for an UEFA match. I guess one of the numbers is wrong.

It was planned to increase 10.000 seats before the remodelation of this tier. Finally they increased only 3.000 with this roof they have now.

And why it was cancelled? I think because as you know Santiago bernabeu is a very steep stadium and actually is hard to have a good view from the last rows so imagine in this last tier, everyone with binoculars. But it's just my opinion.

So what if it´s no problem to pay the costs of the debt? There are a lot of clubs which have financiel problems, but Real Madrid is not realy one of them. (and I am absolutely no Madrid fan to be clear)
There are easier targets in Spain or other countries you could pick.

http://www.resultados-futbol.com/partido/Real-Madrid/Barcelona

This is the only site that has an official attendance ( 81.178 ), while almost all the other sites say a generic 83.500. The odd thing is that in last Spanish Super Cup ( Real - Barcelona 2-2 ) the only official attendance was 81.177......... Is this the maximum capacity of the Bernabeu ? Is it truly incredible that it isn't possible to know the official capacity of one of the most important stadiums in the world !!!!

The 81.178 capacity may have an own logic : In fact the new localidades aren't 900, but exactly 824. Now 80.354 + 824 = 81.178. But the last attendances to Real games were 83.500............

Axelferis,

I understand you are a Liverpool fan too, or at least you like the club. Either way, can I recommend you don't quote any articles from The Sun newspaper please. Many of our foreign fans aren't familiar with the background, but The Sun is despised by Liverpool fans and the majority of people on Merseyside because of the appalling lies they printed in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989. If you want to know a bit more, you need only view the Wikipedia entry on the Hillsborough disaster.

Many thanks.

As part of Perez's ambitions plans for the club, the Madrid president has also given the go-ahead for the Santiago Bernabeu to be given a facelift which will result in the exterior of the stadium being given 'a skin' akin to the one which is wrapped around Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena.

Real Madrid Resort Island (Location: northern Emirate of Ras Al-Khaimah, 45 minutes from Dubai airport)

“This is a decisive and strategic step which contributes to strengthening our institution in the Middle East and Asia,” Perez said. “Real Madrid will be present permanently in a key region of the world.”

The complex, with US$1-billion of investment and backed by the government of the Emirate, is scheduled to open in January 2015, the club and executives said.

It will include a five-star hotel, beachside bungalows and an amusement park with a rollercoaster and hologram show recreating Real Madrid’s goals.

Sports facilities will include training pitches and swimming pools plus a marina for yachting, as well as the 10,000-seat football stadium open on one side to a view of the sea.

Also in this site the capacity is 81.178.
80.354 + 824 ( and not 900.... ) new seats of the 2011.
I think that in these 81.178 sets are inclusive of the 4.200 VIP seats.

I have a curiosity :why for Barcelona - Chelsea there were 95.845 spectators in a 99.786 stadium ( so there were about 4.000 empty seats for security reasons ) and for Real Madrid - Bayern there were ONLY 71.654 in a 81.178 stadium ( almost 10.000 empty seats ) ? The odd thing is that for Real - Lyon in the group stage there were 76.102 spectators.........
