Read this article just now and came across the list of projects around Bukit Bintang, which included Menara YTL
Anyone volounteer to call Tan Sri Francis to find out more? ;)
Extract from the article:
Jalan Bukit Bintang has seen many developments over the years and coming up is The Pavilion shopping mall by Malton Bhd, which is located on the site of the former Bukit Bintang Girls' School. Other projects in the area include NAS Pavilion (formerly CN Gallery), Menara YTL, Prince Court Medical Centre and The Residence at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. There is also a parcel of land being developed opposite the Royale Bintang. The site was formerly occupied by the Pavilion cinema and is now a car park, Khong says.
There are still some parcels of land left for development in the stretch towards Jalan Tun Razak but these will most likely be for serviced apartments and small office/home office-type projects, he says.

ANyway I hope they would pursue with this building soon......we've been waiting long enuf liao! :D
Greg November 28th, 2005, 09:34 PM Judging from this, a new HQ is likely to happen :)
YTL Corp Bhd’s market capitalisation, at US$5bil now, could balloon to US$100bil or more by 2020, said managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh (pic).
He said the estimate was based on the group’s aim to achieve 20% compounded rate of growth in profits and “hopefully, in shareholders’ value” by 2020.
For year ended June 30, the group's pre-tax profit jumped 17.6% to RM1.3bil from RM1.2bil a year ago, while revenue rose 12.3% to RM4.9bil from RM4.4bil.
YTL is mainly involved in utility including power, water and sewerage services, as well as cement, construction and property development.
Over the years, Yeoh said, the group had expanded globally, buying stakes in such companies as Britain’s Wessex Water Ltd (100%), Australia's ElectraNet Pty (33.5%) and Indonesia's P.T. Jawa Power (35%).
Water and sewerage company Wessex operates under a concession in perpetuity and has more than 2.5 million customers. ElectraNet, on the other hand, has a concession to operate electricity transmission grid for the state of South Australia while Jawa Power is the second largest power plant in Indonesia with a capacity of 1,220-megawatts.
Additionally, the group had this year bought a stake in Singapore-based Jurong Cement Ltd, giving it access to China. Jurong Cement has a bulk terminal in Singapore and plants in China.

“We are busy in the areas of our core competencies and I don’t see new areas of businesses,” Yeoh said at a media briefing on the group’s 50th anniversary celebration.
YTL is celebrating its golden jubilee with a series of concerts for five consecutive days from Dec 13.

Heaven knows. We don't even know if the rendering will be the final design. In december I drove past the possible construction site. YTL has some advertisements there for their other projects, but nothing else is going on there. :(

pedang February 24th, 2006, 02:05 PM YTL Q2 net profit soars on exceptional gain
By GOH EE KOON
PETALING JAYA: YTL Corp Bhd reported yesterday a big jump of 520% in its net profit to RM858.81mil for the second quarter ended Dec 31, 2005, from RM138.52mil previously.
Its half-year net profit breached the billion-ringgit mark at RM1.04bil, which was a 247.68% increase from the previous corresponding period.
The growth in profits was predominantly due to an exceptional gain of RM643.6mil on the disposal of various properties – Starhill Gallery, Lot 10 Shopping Complex and the JW Marriott hotel in Kuala Lumpur – by its subsidiary, YTL Land Sdn Bhd, to the main board-listed Starhill Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT).
The main drivers for the group’s 9.17% year-on-year revenue growth for the first six months were improved operating results from subsidiary YTL Cement Bhd and increased contributions from the group’s utilities division.
Revenue for the half year was at RM2.64bil.
Sales of YTL Cement jumped 73% to RM501.4mil for the financial year’s first half, translating to a net profit of RM72.6mil.
The improved financial performance was also due to the stabilisation of cement prices and the consolidation of its subsidiary, Perak-Hanjoong Simen Sdn Bhd.
YTL Power International Bhd’s half-year net profit grew 5.9% to RM393.7mil. Equity accounting of its 35% associate company, PT Jawa Power, in Indonesia remains the main contributor towards its growth in revenue and profit.
It’s water and sewerage services subsidiary in England, Wessex Water, also recorded improved earnings.
YTL Land & Development Bhd registered a net profit of RM10mil, a 44.38% fall from the previous corresponding half-year period.
However, YTL E-Solutions Bhd recorded a 19% increase in net profit to RM3.7mil, due to a higher demand for the group’s IT products and services and revenue growth achieved by its digital narrow-casting and media-content development subsidiary.
As for the Starhill REIT, its first reporting quarter since its listing, posted RM3.95mil in revenue for the period of Dec 16 to 31. Distributable income was at RM2.29mil for the same period. Starhill REIT’s fund size is 1.04 billion units.
On the YTL Corp’s performance, group managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping said the growth in earnings was expected to be sustained through to the end of the financial year.
themaster February 26th, 2006, 09:14 AM wah! so much money. I think YTL should quickly throw some money and start to build this menara YTL, which could well raise its reputation as a mega company, right guys?
pedang May 17th, 2006, 02:34 PM YTL to issue US$300m bonds
YTL Corporation Bhd has proposed to issue up to US$300 million (about RM1.08 billion) nominal value five-year exchangeable bonds to fund future investments and projects.
It said on May 17 that the bonds, to be issued by its offshore special purpose vehicle, would be exchanged for new 50 sen shares and they would not be offered in Malaysia.
YTL said the funds would be used for future investments and projects and expansion of its business in Malaysia as it sought to become a global integrated infrastructure business.
“The proposal will also mitigate the outflow of funds from Malaysia as the bonds are exchangeable into YTL Corp shares,” it said.
samson June 1st, 2006, 09:48 PM actually where is the location for current menara ytl?
D_Y2k.2^ June 5th, 2006, 12:48 PM i think it is the land located near the hospital with the ytl advertisment billboard
dengilo June 5th, 2006, 06:23 PM i suspect u are right dy2k.2 thats along jalan raja chulan right next to the first 7 star hospital in malaysia!if i remember well they had a concrete batching plant there once!
interesting location i would say!but ahhh i suspect ytl not that gila to build this building so soon!but if they do they surely will preposed some radical to dbkl to improve traffic sitiation during peak hrs just like they did in sentul!
D_Y2k.2^ June 6th, 2006, 04:25 AM Yeah,i think they will come up with a building that will compliment the hospital. One thing I like about YTL is that they always come up with quality development, unlike most developers

AhChuan April 12th, 2007, 07:34 PM Yerrr....look kinda weird to me ler...
Well...still look nice to me.:D....Are they goin to be build as follow the proposed rendering??
Nissan_FUGA April 13th, 2007, 03:25 AM From the rendering, it does look massive and tall, hopefully if they want to build it, they should make it >350 m.......
szehoong April 13th, 2007, 07:31 AM I dun think this design would see the light of day. I heard that they would probably employ Lord Norman Foster to design their HQ. Expect something spectacular!
TYW April 13th, 2007, 07:42 AM ^^ yay!! i never liked that old design anyway :D
dengilo April 13th, 2007, 01:42 PM Hee hee it looks like the taller version of menara marinara.I sure like to see something really radically different!! Its not that they dont have the money!!!

Oh... Cool ^ ^
James Foong April 13th, 2007, 05:16 PM Hopes norman ll come out with a radical design. Something twist here n there like frank gehry work.
yameus April 13th, 2007, 07:31 PM :ohno: Aiyo, somehow I feel a tinge of fear.. What will happen to Malaysia's traffic with so much towers around the city area.... Dunno good or bad... Day and night jam...:bash:
Errmm.. YTL's proposed HQ looks a little weird to me too.. I think it looks a little like Telecom Tower... A LITTLE only ah...
OshHisham April 13th, 2007, 08:20 PM Hopes norman ll come out with a radical design. Something twist here n there like frank gehry work.
norman foster has his own design characteristic,.....and so as frank gehry, zaha hadid, daniel lieberskin.....
KING BOB April 14th, 2007, 03:58 PM WAAHHHHH, Im sort of afraid to live on highrises, or near. Anyway, nice design, can't wait till it starts :)
James Foong April 14th, 2007, 09:45 PM norman foster has his own design characteristic,.....and so as frank gehry, zaha hadid, daniel lieberskin.....
I prefer something fresh and complicated like Gehry or zaha hadid style. Love gehry's work but dem too expensive to build. Zaha is my pick for her kind of manipulative and controversial styles. Want to see both works get reached into our shore oneday but it ll takes long time coz frankly speaking, we malaysians r so attached to norman foster.
dengilo April 15th, 2007, 03:41 AM One thing for sure we know YTL is in no hurry to build this one!!!All they need is there at the present HQ on jalan bukit bintang!!
OshHisham April 15th, 2007, 05:20 AM we malaysians r so attached to norman foster.
who said that...? no lah. of coz we can see one or two buildings designed by his firm, but it doesn't mean that we are kinda 'attached' to him. in fact his works in malaysia is not popular in architecture mag. it is rather just an 'ordinary' building....
zaha hadid btw, is not a skyscraper architect. her works are much into low rise museum....so as daniel libeskind.
but i really hope Kuala Lumpur will have their works in the future, those architects are a trendsetter, not like our local architect...lack of creativity!!
TYW April 15th, 2007, 10:52 AM ^^ Zaha Hadid designed a high rise in Marseille maybe she'll do a skyscraper soon??
James Foong April 15th, 2007, 10:59 AM oshkoshbood, r u involve in design industry? Whats makes our local architect lacks creativity? Or are they actually creative enuf but there is a stumbling block of doing so? One thing on our architects attitude, they knows about complaining or commenting on minor small issues, but on their part...R they reliable to issue dwg and stick to it? In my experience, we received dwgs for construction, we plan, we call in all trades involve and sit for discussion together, work on it but in the nick of time, architect issues changes and sometimes, revamp whole design without constitute variation costs. Just imagine how much time and money r lost to us, while the architect can sit relax in his suite thinkin of his night outing. Well, because here we follow british system where architect is the meeting chairperson, generally we hv to take their order, regardless how the things work. In U.S however, architects follow engineer instruction. Unless our local boys r competent as their british counterpart, whatever system can work here, but not now at the moment.. :ohno:
szehoong April 16th, 2007, 09:44 AM but i really hope Kuala Lumpur will have their works in the future, those architects are a trendsetter, not like our local architect...lack of creativity!!
Lack of creativity? I am sure you know Hijjas Kasturi and Dr. Ken Yeang right? :D
I think they are fantastic. And so do many others. In fact some of their work receive international awards and not to mention public praises. If those are not creativity then what is?
KING BOB April 17th, 2007, 05:13 PM Lack of creativity? I am sure you know Hijjas Kasturi and Dr. Ken Yeang right? :D
I think they are fantastic. And so do many others. In fact some of their work receive international awards and not to mention public praises. If those are not creativity then what is?
Could you tell any malay or international projects (if there was) that these two guys were part of ^^
forrestcat April 17th, 2007, 05:24 PM Hijjas Kasturi is designing a Saudi Arabia university. It's in his website.
glenj April 17th, 2007, 06:13 PM I'm a fan of Hijjas Kasturi. By the way, speaking of Daniel Libeskind, an iconic condo designed by him (Reflections@ Keppel Bay) is coming up across the causeway. Hope to see one of his works in KL someday.
OshHisham April 18th, 2007, 04:46 AM Hijjas Kasturi and Kean Yeang are OKs for me. Both have projects in overseas as well. but still their works are not in any architecture magazines(overseas edition), which mean international people not really consider their designs as innovative/trendsetter...
Ken Yeang, his idea of 'bioclimatic skyscraper' is not really practical. 1st. construction cost is really expensive, and the maintainance cost make it worse. and have to remember, an architect is also a business man. so, the 'bioclimatic' thing is just a 'marketing strategy'. no offence...
but what i said about lack of creativity is....just take Berjaya Times Square, for example...it's horrible! others i cannot commend....see structures around you..and you will know what i mean...
James Foong, i was trained as an architect only i cannot be an architect bcoz japanese system doesn't comply malaysian-british system. but i'm happy working as an building engineer...
SEED April 18th, 2007, 09:39 AM ^^ err.. actually theres alot bout malaysian architec and architecture on the front page of the archi mags here down undies.. so to say that "their works are not in any architecture magazines(overseas edition)" is kinda..
