Aire Valley Regeneration, Leeds

This is a large development project, and deserves its own thread.

The official website for this resource : http://www.airevalleyleeds.com

Aire Valley Leeds is a major regeneration programme covering an area which has the potential to be one of the most significant areas of new investment and employment opportunities in the region.

Located immediately to the south east of Leeds city centre, the area extends from the Royal Armouries and Clarence Dock, eastwards through Cross Green and Stourton to the M1-A1 link road.

It contains some 350 hectares (800 acres) of potential development land - around a third of all the land available for future industrial use in West Yorkshire - and is expected to provide around 40 per cent of the city’s employment growth over the next ten years. The seven year regeneration programme is primed with £20 million government funding.

For further information, visit the Aire Valley Leeds website.

Coming home this evening along the South Accommodation Road, I noticed scaffolding going up around some of the buildings at Hunslet and Victoria Mills alongside the river. For those who don't know, permission was given 4 years ago for this derelict flax mill to be rebuilt and converted into residential accommodation. Along with some new build, it will provide 700 flats along with some leisure and retail use. Apologies for the small size of the first image from the Civic Trust's website.

When I get a moment, I'll have a wander down there to check it out and get a few snaps.

They are stunning ruins. Better than Kirkstall Abbey.
...but not as profitable.

God I love those buildings. It would be superb to see work commencing soon on converting them.

I may even be tempted to forego the flat in Roberts Wharf that I've promised myself in favour of one there.

That's a stunning building, can't wait to see it converted.

Excellent news. That's extending Leeds city living even further eastwards. :)

More from Victoria Mills. It's impossible to get onto the site and the Mills are too big to capture in one shot so apologies for the oblique angles.
