KnightRiderBMW June 28th, 2005, 09:21 PM There are alot of pics, so I'll just start off with some of the construction and skyscraper pics first since this forum is "Skyscrapercity". :)
These 2 pictures are construction projects on the outskirts of downtown HCMC on my way back from Mui Ne Beach.

Here is a pic from my hotel room at the Palace Hotel on Nguyen Hue. I later stayed at the New World Hotel on Le Lai since my uncle got us a BIG discount. You can see the New World Hotel behind the tall building in this picture I posted. It is the yellow hotel.

And here are some pictures of Hanoi projects and skyscrapers. I was very surprised to see so many skyscrapers being built in Hanoi.

Here is a BMW I saw in Vietnam. BMW's are my passion. Too bad I didn't like this particular one that much. But I was glad to see alot of BMW's in Vietnam.

I will post more pictures later. I will try to come back to Vietnam at least once a year. Vietnam now feels like a "home away from home" for me. I love it that much... :)
Þróndeimr June 30th, 2005, 11:07 PM Beautiful images! My god the traffic full of scooters and mopeds would be soooo illegal here if they was driving like that!
soulkorea July 1st, 2005, 05:21 AM Do they have Bulgogi burger in Lotteria in Vietnam? :-)
Lotteria is the most popular fast food restaurant chain in Korea.

Hmm, I don't know really, I'm from America, and we don't have Lotteria over here. What is the country of origin for lotteria?
Locust July 2nd, 2005, 09:55 AM probaly the store only `took' the name from the korean franchise....
Saigoneseguy July 2nd, 2005, 11:11 AM probaly the store only `took' the name from the korean franchise....
Nope,there're dozens Lotteria store here.
I don't like its burgers very much, beef slices need to be thicker thou.
tq July 2nd, 2005, 11:12 AM No I dont think so. Lotteria is really doing business in Vietnam currently like other franchise as Jollibee or KFC. More will coming after the entry to the WTO. BTW, a law for franchise is under way.
KnightRiderBMW July 2nd, 2005, 11:42 AM How come Vietnam doesn't have that many Bubble Tea (Boba) shops? The only place I saw was a place called TapiocaCup. In USA, the vietnamese-american area has alot of them. Has this trend not caught on in Vietnam yet? I bet opening up a shop could prove quite lucrative.
KnightRiderBMW July 2nd, 2005, 11:47 AM I have my forum timer set to Vietnam time now, so I know what time it is over there when I'm making posts on here. :)
It's 2:45am where I'm at, so Im going to sleep. I'll be posting more pictures soon. :)
Saigoneseguy July 2nd, 2005, 04:23 PM Bubble tea shops? only sold near schools,univ...etc...
There's also a chain call AloTra.......:)
Pelerin_au_tonkin July 3rd, 2005, 11:16 AM fast food restaurants suck
KnightRiderBMW July 3rd, 2005, 11:48 AM I ate out everyday. Most of the time at restaurants. The food in vietnam is good. REALLY GOOD! especially the seafood. The beef is not as good as american beef. It is very chewy in Vietnam.
In Hanoi, my favorite restaurant was "Le Tonkin"
In HCMC, I like a lot of restaurants. "Dai Thong" chinese restaurant is good
There is another chinese restaurant I went to twice. But I forgot of the name. It is in a shopping plaza and there is a KFC in the same shopping plaza. But the restaurant is really good. Anyone know this place??
I only ate Pho twice in Vietnam surprisingly. But "Pho Le" was good. I believe its on Nguyen Trai street in Q5.
I also went to "Que Huong" i think the name is. But they had AMAZING NUOC MAM!!!
Saigoneseguy July 3rd, 2005, 11:51 AM I'm looking forward to the next pics :)
Sen July 4th, 2005, 07:31 AM wonderful pictures, that skyscraper (in the thrid pic) is really amazing.
Pelerin_au_tonkin July 4th, 2005, 10:30 AM oh yes, "Le Tonkin" is an amazing restaurant... this is where french president Jacques Chirac went in 1997 during the francophonie estival... very very good food, cozy decoration...
KnightRiderBMW July 4th, 2005, 10:42 AM oh yes, "Le Tonkin" is an amazing restaurant... this is where french president Jacques Chirac went in 1997 during the francophonie estival... very very good food, cozy decoration...
Yeah, it was probably my favorite restaurant. Everything I ordered was good. There were absolutely no complaints about the food. Everything tasted fresh and hot. The rice is cooked in Coconut water, which was awesome!
From my previous post: There is another chinese restaurant I went to twice. But I forgot of the name. It is in a shopping plaza and there is a KFC in the same shopping plaza. But the restaurant is really good. Anyone know this place??
Saigoneseguy July 4th, 2005, 06:28 PM Could you reveal more on its name,or maybe the street it located in,or the area? :)
Trân July 4th, 2005, 11:48 PM American Fast Food in VN !!! It should be banned , it is all about public health.
KnightRiderBMW July 5th, 2005, 12:00 AM There is only one American fast food in VN, and that is KFC. America has alot of fast food and alot of overweight people! Good thing you guys don't have Mcdonalds, which actually surprised me, because they are the biggest fast food chain in the world. But there was a guy who did a documentary on McDonalds. The guy ate Mcdonalds for every meal, everyday for 30 days. At the end of the 30 days he went to the doctor and the doctor said he became really overweight and really sick. The documentary movie is called "Super Size Me"
Saigoneseguy July 5th, 2005, 03:56 PM yeah....i've watched that movie,pretty funny,and scary too.
With all of my family members* who always enjoy savouring dried and fermented fish (kho^ va` mam) for dinner....it's not very difficult to imagine why McDo might haven't decided to start its business here :D
*Note:not me!
samba_man July 7th, 2005, 03:24 AM Lovely street shots...thx for sharing with us!!
LacLongQuan July 7th, 2005, 05:54 AM Well you're not suppose to eat McDonalds for 30 days and nothing but McDonalds. What an idiotic the doco-movie Supersize Me was.
That aside, I'm not very fond of western fast food. It's not food for humans. LOL
coolink July 8th, 2005, 06:13 PM post more photos of the buildings

I'm disappointed I didn't get alot of pics of the Sun Wah tower on Nguyen Hue in Saigon. It's a beautiful tower in my opinion. Very clean looking and modern.
Here is one picture of it:

Those are the building pics. On my next series of pics, it will probably be Nha Trang. I am going in order of where I went in Vietnam. :)

KnightRiderBMW July 13th, 2005, 09:16 PM I give hanoi 10 more years to reach the overall beauty and perfection
........Saigon 20-25yrs
Hanoi surprised me. It seemed to have alot more construction projects than HCMC. And it seemed to have alot more housing projects than HCMC.
coolink July 14th, 2005, 09:32 PM don't let that fool you...saigon actually grew 3 times it's orginal size during the past 10years........if you were to take the bus up north to Cu CHi - govap, east to Thu Duc -district 2, 9, Binh DUong, and south to saigon south and Duc Hoa-Long An.......you'll see new neighbourhood are begining to take shape...and construction are booming.............the thing is most of these site are out of town and out of sight........and the saigon airport is in the city so you don't get the chance to see as much of the new saigon outside of the city's center.......compare to what you see in hanoi.........hanoi is small so things are squeezed together....that's why ya get to see so many new buildings
