Why do most homes in LA have bars on their windows? It's like they're living in a jail...Anyways, interesting pics, but LA's lawns could really use some watering.

"Why do most homes in LA have bars on their windows? "

You really can't answer this by yourself?

^ You're right, I'll answer my own question: for fear of being broken into...I guess that's just something I thankfully don't have to worry too much about up here.

Bars on windows can be found in any city in America. Just go looking for areas that have high crime rates. The area that the blue line runs thru (which seems to be where most of these pictures were taken from) is a rather high crime area. However, in any major dense city, you usually always have bars on the first two floors of a building. You know, we americans have a flair for the home safety.

BTW, great pics, and thanks for sharing them.

the bars on the windows can also be a hazard though, if there´s a fire it makes it impossible to escape through the windows, etc..

But when they put them up they never thought of that, and they don't feel like taking them off, simple as that.

Nice pictures. I passed the Metro a number of times while I was in LA last week, but did not have a chance to ride it. I am interested if anybody has a map of the metro, and statistics on ridership, etc... also, where does the LA system rank in terms of ridership compared to other US transit systems?

The LAMTA is....
The 3rd Largest System in the US
The Record Holder For Having The Busiest Single Light Rail Line(Blue Line)
The Record Holder for Having the 4th Busiest Single Subway Line(Red Line)

The Blue Line opened first in 1990, and The Loop in Long Beach and the 7th/Metro Center station(which is also the only "subway" station on the BLue Line) were finished in 1991.

The Red Line opened from 7th Metro to Union Station in 1993, Wilshire/Western to Union Station in 1996(lower level), 7th Metro to Hollywood/Vine(upper level) in 1999, and Hollywood/Vine to North Hollywood in 2000.

The Green Line(and also the least busiest line) was opened in 1995.

The Gold Line opened in Summer 2003.

The Orange Line is supposed to open sometime later this year, and the Gold Line Eastside Extension in 2009.

The gold line is the least busiest. The order is Red line, Blue Line, Green Line then Gold Line.

Nice photos.

There are many cities with barred up windows. I live in one of the safest and most affluent parts of Chicago, and people with garden apartments still have bars on their apartment windows.

Most homes dont actually. And the majority that do are in south LA.
