Banja Luka is a large city (in Bosnian terms)... so it is even more beautiful to have it's unique blend of Modern High-rises, Old Austrian Hungarian Shops, and on top of that Green hills, trees, and a blue river that cuts right through the centre! :)

I like Banja Luka. I was born there. But the city really does not have true tourists potentials. Sadly after the Second World War the old Ottoman district was destroyed by over zealous party officials, like the original Orthodox Church was. The earthquake also leveled other important historical parts of the city. And well after this war the city was reduced to a few small attractions.

Yes, that is all true, but Banja Luka still does in my opinion have many attractions! There is the Vrbas river, parks, Gospodska Ulica, Orthodox churches, old castle, and once they rebuild the 16 mosques it will be pretty much the same as it was before the war! The city itself doesn't need to have only one type of tourism, it could have eco tourism. Where everything is based on it's natural suroundings! I am shure Banja Luka wont have any problems with that!

All in all Banja Luka to me.. touristic or not is a great city!

Great city. It is so clean, so green, so everything. I would say that it is in the top 4 favorite cities in BiH. Which place, I am not going to answer. That is for you to decide. ;)

I have read some where that the Ferhadija Mosque is slated for reconstruction beginning this half of the month. I don’t know if this viable information but Dnevni Avaz thinks so. Anyway you were talking about eco tourism, on that I have to agree with you 100%. In today’s world a little bit of untarnished nature goes a long way. Banja Luka should consider reinventing itself as the Eco-Destination of BiH. Investing capital in infrastructure programs and expanding hotel capacity.

I really hope the Ferhadija is reconstructed in the next few years! It was a symbol to the city, so large, but beautiful, and peacfull. I really felt bad about those raids a couple years back.. I just hope next time there is no anti-rebuilding demonstrations and it all goes peacefully!

About eco-tourism.. I think Banja Luka is apart of some eco project.. I will have ot find more information about it later, and post it up! :)

I got a question for the Banjalucani if there are any thermal baths surrounding the city. I have read of the opening of the Ilida complex. If there are, are there plans for a expansion like the one we have recently seen in Sarajevo.

There are no more Banjalucani on the forum, there was Pavle but he left! lol

The closest spa I know of is Banja Vrucica in the Municipality of Teslic, so I will look for some info about spa's in the area.:)
