East Coast Park to have cable skiing and new facilities
THE East Coast Park will be the venue for Singapore's first cable ski park, where instead of a boat, skiers will be pulled by cables attached to a pylon built in the water.
The $2 million facility, Ski 360, will open early next year at East Coast Lagoon.
The developer, TTJ Leisure, said that cable wakeboarding would cost less than when using a boat.
The cost for one hour tickets at Ski 360 will range from about S$35 to $45 compared with the hourly rental of a boat, which costs between S$80 and $120.
The cable will run anti-clockwise around the lake and is powered by a variable speed electric motor that will maintain speed between 24 to 58kph.
Up to eight skiers or wakeboarders can participate at the same time on one cableway, and up to 30 participants can ride the cable ski in an hour.
Complementing the water-sport facility will be a restaurant and wine bar, pro-shop, and shower and toilet facilities.
The water-sport facility is part of efforts to give Singapore's most popular beach park a new look.
East Coast Park to be spruced up with new facilities
The National Parks Board said the ski-part is part of a major effort to give the East Coast Park a major facelift.
The Concept Plan features include new gardens and facilities, covered carparks, and a overhead garden-bridge linking the park with Marine Parade Central.
And Singaporeans will get their say as to how the park will turn out through a public consultation exercise.
From today until Jan 2 next year, members of the public can offer their suggestions on the type of activities and amenities they would like to see at East Coast Park, as well as their views on the Concept Plan at ECP Area C3, or do it online.
NParks will assess the feasibility and market demand of the ideas submitted, as well as the overall needs of park users.
NParks will announce the outcome of this public consultation exercise in mid 2006.
