well, today marks the day britain took a step back and said "they're not with us" and retreated to (what was then) our canadian territories and gave birth to the nation of the USA.

So, happy birthday america from the old world..

(I just know this thread will end up as one whinging about the yanks and how they don't see past their own interests but no matter what I could have said above, there are some that will make those comments any way even if I had simply put the above line, so please don't turn this into an anti-us government whinge fest and simply leave it as a happy birthday for the people, not the government, of the us :P )

I've always thought it a bit odd when American's go on about freedom. In their words they had freedom from the Crown, which we and the Canadians still live under, which implies we are not free. In one sentance the American system of freedom is based on somekind of mass properganda movement around freedom.

Wake up America from you're own little self contained matrix, most of the rest of us our free as well.

I am just being sarcastic! Its a line from some stereotypical American country song--that achieved huge popularity after 9/11. :)

^Lol...got to love Lee Greenwood. Sadly his theater he had here locally went bankrupt. I was completely heartbroken.

I'd imagine fireworks are illegal to shoot off where you live, ReddAlert?

yeah. We also have to buy a permit now for bottlerockets. People still shoot em off all over the city anyway though. The police got alot more important things to be worrying about in this city than fireworks..especially considering the "Worlds Largest Music festival" is going on. Cant get us all now can they. :)

oh by the way. Your state has so many nice places to buy the things. :)

Yeah...I'm minutes away from the self proclaimed "World's Biggest Fireworks Store"...somehow I doubt the truthfulness of this claim.

fireworks are illegal in houston but they are plentiful just out side of the city limits.

The American Revolution was great, a fantastic moment in history. There's a lot that Contemporary America could learn from it.

Yanks sure love going on and on about their "freedom" - I mean, take the example of the new skyscraper in New York "Freedom Tower". In England that would be such a shitty name and the media would have a field day mocking it. I know it's all to do with what happened on the site in 2001, but surely there could be a better name for a building of such beauty on that historic site?

And yes, 90% of Europe is free now too (all except Belarus basically) (and no, I'm not counting Russia as being part of Europe) (so yeah, when Belarus is annexed into Russia in a few years time, Europe will be 100% free nation territory) as is large chunks of the rest of the world - Japan, Australia, India, etc etc.

Oh well. Have a happy independence day. We don't have an independence day because we were never made independent... ;)

Its a very selective freedom, I've noticed that as well. For example I stumbled across some American Teen nationalist webshite that was on about the pledge of allegiance and how all his classmates should have to say it because it represents freedom and how it should be completely mandatory and he feels angry when anyone refuses to participate, not even understanding the irony of that statement.

It's kinda funny reading people's comments to America in this here thread.

Makes me wanna take the kids in the SUV, go to the restroom, put on my best pants and attempt not to sound silly.

Aha, oh the days where I used to belittle the American populus...well...belated "freedom" day.
