OTHER INFORMATION/COMMENT:
-As an aviation fan, I like using the infield treminal since I can look around the apron on the bus. 8)
-Touch-screen PTV is amazing! You can have different views of the flight status, see pictures below! :o
-FA made PA and said that the delay due to 1 pilot caught in traffic on the highway. :?
-A340-500 has 4 levels of flap extension, we used flap3 during take off at CYYZ. Rwy length is 11,050ft, we used up 4/5 length of the rwy for the take off run. 8)
-We had pretty strong tail wind over north Canada and Alasaka, which made our Ground Speed up to 1061km/h.
-I think we hit the jet-stream over Japan, winds were not stable, changed from tail wind to head wind, seat belt sign turned on for quite long, about an hour.
-I like this seat. Although it's close to the washroom, it wasn't that noisy since there is an equipment storage separated seat 24H/K and the washroom, so you won't smell the washroom....LOL.... Also, no matter how you move your seat backwards, you don't have to worry about destrubing the passengers behind you, coz there is no pax. 8)
-Still, AC service is bad, no smile at all, no professional customer service at all.
-Pilots are so nice. After arrival, I first asked the FA to visit the cockpit, he refused, I went to ask the captain, and he said "sure! come on in!"
-Crew are going to stay overnight in a hotel in Wai Chai for one night, leaving on the next day as AC16 back to CYYZ.

Very cool...I hope to take a long-haul flight some time in the future...BTW...when did AC get PTV's?

The Hong Kong - Toronto route is Air Canada's only route with PTVs. They received their first A340-500 last year and only started flying this direct route on August 1, 2004. I believe this is AC's only plane with PTVs in all classes.

Hkskyline do you know how many more A340-500 AC is getting or did they only get one?

Air Canada's website currently lists 2 such aircraft :
http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/fleet/a340-500.html

However, a press release from last year indicates there may be 3 in total :
http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi?rkey=1204192524&view=13213-0&Start=0

Air Canada will take delivery of two Airbus A340-500 aircraft this summer (2004) following successful negotiations with the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) to facilitate the expedited introduction of the ultra long range aircraft to Air Canada's fleet. Air Canada has been operating daily non-stop service eastbound from Hong Kong to Toronto since December 1, 2003 using Airbus A340-300 aircraft.

nice report !! the A345 is truly an amazing plane, from a passenger's point of view, definately more quiet than the whining twins of 777.

Nice pics. I love T1! I just hate the Infield Terminal so much. We were delayed a few weeks ago in my flight from Heathrow, and had to land there instead of T1...

AC just got these new jets. Why would they be phased out a year after they came into service?

How is it that you get to travel so often? Like spending half of the year in Toronto and the other half in Hong Kong. I envy you :D

Well, let me put it this way. There is a good reason why we have three daily flights to HKG from YYZ. I think Air Canada is a nice airline, but I like to fly Cathay Pacific for the political reasons.
