i don't know how big West Edmonton Mall, what i showed is old concept mall, not very big each about 50,000 sq.m, but Beijing jinyuan shopping mall is the biggest in the world has 600,000 sq.m. In Chongqing the biggest one is under construction 400,000 sq.m third biggest in China, look at that big parking lots.

I went to Ayala Center in Metro Manila not to shop but to go to the museum which is part of the "malling" experience in Metro Manila. Aside from Glorietta and Greenbelt, Rustans, Landmark and SM mall are also in the same complex next to each other with the park as the main hub of this shopping center.

Greenbelt pulls off a hat trick with ICSC award

For Greenbelt, it seems winning is a hard habit to break.

Ayala Land's critically-acclaimed mall added the third international feather to its cap via an award from the prestigious International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). Greenbelt earned ICSC's nod over 39 semi-finalists from 14 countries, winning the International Design and Development Award under the category "Innovative Design and Construction of a New Project."

Established in 1977, ICSC's International Design and Development Awards Program recognizes outstanding shopping center projects as well the people behind them - shopping center owners, development associates, managers, architects, and designers "who are the very best at what they do, who design and develop projects that can truly be held up as examples of what can be accomplished with a lot of hard work and creativity."

Ayala Land Commercial Centers Group Head Miriam Katigbak, VP Rowena Tomeldan and VP Winnie Nazareth personally received the trophy at the awarding ceremonies in Texas last December 10.

"This award is a testament to the meticulous work and careful planning that went into redeveloping Greenbelt. We humbly offer this recognition to our loyal customers whose evolving and discriminating tastes make innovation and creativity possible," said Katigbak.

In 2003, Greenbelt was the only Asian awardee of the Urban Land Institute Award of Excellence, known internationally as the Oscars of real estate development, for embodying the ULI principle of promoting responsible leadership in the use of land to enhance the total environment. Ayala Land's efforts in the launch and promotion of Greenbelt also earned for it ICSC's Maxi Award for Marketing Excellence.

great idea! most chinese hate the colors of biggest mall in china, people think that may a mistake but when that company built another smaller one they do something. asia need a new biggest mall. by the way, the jinyuan mall in beijing has 600,000 sq.m commercial area add other place the gross floor area is about 800,000 sq.m, the third on jinyuan chongqing has 400,000 sq.m commercial area and 600,000 sq.m gross floor area.

Hehehehe, shopping malls in the Philippines are not government owned. We are a "consumer" happy people so can you blame these developers in building some of the largest malls in the world and quite frankly it is helping the community as well by creating jobs for everyone and accumulating tax revenues for the government coffers. We have been building huge malls in the Philippines long before other cities in Asia thought of building their biggest malls. Hehehe.

Well.. the current and upcoming malls in India are a reflection of an expanding and predominantly young middle class benefiting from 6.5 % economic growth rate averaged over the last decade.

India's economy is expected to sustain a growth rate to 7-8 % for the next 5 years or so and accelerate further in the future literally for decades.

I guess India will surprise a lot of people in future, and Indians and foreigners alike will have to revise their opinion about the country.

You aint seen anything yet.. India's best is yet to come, it is in the FUTURE :)

Yup, you're right... Filipinos are so crazy of malls and the competition is very tight. Manila regarding these stuffs is so underated compared to Bankok.

I can live without Malls. Sometimes strolling through the street shops of New York, Milan, Paris, etc... is a better experience than the malls in Asia. Anyways, im not really fond of shopping.

It's called " MBK center " Which has so many stuffs such as,Electronic stuffs,cellphone,clothing,handicraft,thais stuff ,cinema ,karaoke etc.It's so popular among the tourists

I think malls in asia are more asthetic on the outside as well as on the inside. They look hitech look on the outside. Where I live all the malls are just White and long. I live in Midwest USA. But I visit many asian countries with my parents. Can't wait to go to Bangkok next year!!!!!
