Yeah, it's way too random and not very vertical in nature. Plus, it seems as though most of the architecture is very bland. Only the size and "surprise factor" works in its favor IMO.

You're missing the identical of replica of the top of Liberty One in Philly - it really exists in Tehran. The city will soon have an enormous obervation tower as well.

Overall, the lack of focus lets it down. Buildings are just pepper-potted everywhere with few distinct zones of highrises.

I'd give it 6 of of 10 with the Tehran Tower

It's because Tehran is a sister city of LA, and more imporantly Googoosh (a famous pop singer from Tehran) moved to LA after the revolution.

Back to the skyline...

I'ts dense and has a pretty good ammount of height for a city in a seismic zone, but the Milad Tower needs a little backup. Right now, it's an impressive 435m tower in a city where the next tallest structure is ~250m or so (but I'm not sure).

It's still one of the Middle East's greatest skylines tho.

Gilgamesh, do u have a collection of motorway pics from Tehran (in addition to a few that have already been posted)? And also, you should post pics of the metro here (it has marble floors! How cool is that?).

The density is very impressive... nice shots too.

Hopefully Tehran will one day be more accessible to western tourists, looks like a very interesting plce that i'd love to visit one day!

Actually very nicely. People will come to you and will try to speak to you or want to take pictures with you for fun and now more about you :) You need to leave all these stereotypes and read comments of people about Iran in different websites and their experiences there. Below is a very cool link of foriegn visitors and their comments about Iran and Persians with one of the travel agencies in the city of Shiraz (one of the main tourist attractions in Iran and a historic city).

Thanks. And I honestly, I have no stereotype in my head. From what I have seen and heard, Iranian people are great. What I am concerned with is an American stereotype. I am very interested in other cultures, people and traditions and have a deep respect for all. I feel for the Iranian people. Just like people from outside the US associate all American's with our president, there are a lot of people that associate Iranians with their president. And it's an unfair association for both to say the least!
And a side note.....Iranian woman are GORGEOUS!!!!

As I said Persian people don't hold any grudge against American people but only towards Bush and I'm sure you'll have a very safe and great time visiting :)

I agree, no doubt that Iran is a beautiful country. I hope Iran can work out it's image abroad, like run a tourism commercial or something.

Currently there are no specified clusters in Tehran, however there have been plans to limit highrise construction to special zones (potentially around Milad tower) in the last year.
