These are great sd_urban! I love the way pinnacle looks in the skyline, it was definetly a benifit to the Marina District to have it built were it was. I especially like the second picture. What building were you on top of to take those pics?

Great pics. DTSD is the great success story of urban America. 20 years ago, the place was nothing. The transformation since then has been absolutely amazing. It helped that SD didn't destroy its Victorian treasure trove of buildings in the Gaslamp Quarter. It's also helpful having that wonderful maritime climate. The only downside: real estate prices so high they cause nosebleed. Somehow, if SD wants to remain a real city and not just a crash pad for migratory nouveaux riches, it has to figure out a way to keep the place affordable for actual workers. Like San Francisco, its own desirability works against it. Most cities would love to have that predicament, however.

^^ Very ture statement phx. I like that phrase "a crash pad for migratory nouveax riches"

Those pics are fantastic. Your eye for finding interesting shots that tell the story of downtown are very is very impressive. Great lighting and color too! These are some of the most unique pics of sd I've seen on the net.

Gotta love the urban trees and the skyline view from the embarcadero area!

Those were taken from the top of the St. James Hotel aka Ramada Inn on 6th Ave, I believe. The rooftop is open till 11:00 pm, and the view is awesome. I was up there one evening and was able to see the scoreboard at Petco Park and hear the roar of the crowd. Check it out!

Im just hoping the office market is going to pick up soon, I don't want downtown to be a suburb.

Excellent pictures, I only wish that they could find a new replacement for Lindbergh Field so the zoning laws can be changed in downtown. I bet a pair of taller skyscrapers would look great in the city, but something tells me they would end like East Village: a huge expensive condo complex.
