Yagya February 13th, 2011, 04:33 PM Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation's (JMC) has started second phase of Operation Parkota, anti-encroachment drive, and demolished 18 houses near Gangapol Gate in the Walled City on Saturday.
Families residing in these houses would be rehabilitated in Baksawala area. However, JMC officers had to face protest for removing a wall of religious shrine belonging to a minority community.
The enforcement cell of the civic body had started its drive from Gangapol Gate. Government land near the historical gate was encroached by around 18 houses that blocked road leading to gate. These encroachments became the reason behind traffic chaos.
Although, JMC had razed all these houses with bulldozers, the civic body has decided to rehabilitate all the families as per high court order. "The JMC will give them houses in Baksawal housing scheme," said Lokesh Sonwal, vigilance commissioner with the JMC.
Yagya February 13th, 2011, 04:36 PM Jaipur:As the Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) is yet to arrange it's share of funds to purchase buses, it will take at least two more months for air-conditioned buses to hit the city roads.
The JCTSL has applied for loans worth Rs 50 crore with various banks to contribute its share in the purchase of the buses.
The JCTSL has to spend 30% of the total cost of the project as it will be realised under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNURM).
A JCTSL official revealed that they have applied for the loan and it may take some time.
AC buses would be used for public transportation and also for the transportation for the tourists who visit the city.
JCTSL Managing Director Malini Agarwal said, "Some of the buses will be used for public transportation and some for tourists who keep visiting Jaipur."
Adding further she said, "We will ply these buses to and fro at the tourists spots. It may take two more months to introduce AC buses."
Initially as many as 20 AC buses would be used for the passengers. At present JCTSL is busy arranging funds for these buses from the state and centre governments and through banks loans.
The introduction of AC buses is part of the low floor buses project (Jaipur Bus). The JCTSL is taking up the project in phases.
After introducing around 220 buses in the city, the JCTSL has also introduced buses in the sub-urban areas.
The JCTSL is also identifying other routes in the sub-urban areas for those commuters who visit the city daily for their jobs.
Soon, JCTSL would conduct a meeting to take final decision on the routes, an official said.

JAYESH99 February 25th, 2011, 03:08 PM The Pink City is set to emerge as the next Medicare City. Approximately Rs.4.81 billion is likely to be invested for setting up of 5 state-of-the-art private hospitals to promote medical tourism in the State
Medical tourism patients traveling to a different country for either urgent or elective medical procedures is rapidly becoming a worldwide, multibillion-dollar industry. Realizing the immense potential this industry offers, the Government of Rajasthan has approved the construction of 5 major hospitals in the private sector. Medi-city by the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, Bombay Hospital, Dr. Rakesh Kedawat Hospital, Sea Rock Society Cancer Hospital and International Occology Cancer Hospital are the private hospitals which will come up in next three years.
The State Medical Planning and Resource Committee approved this proposal. Committee Chairman Mr. Govind Sharma informed that the proposals for constructing the hospitals in the private sector were discussed in a meeting, and the officials of the respective companies have promised to set up these hospitals within 2 years. He said "we have approved the investment proposals of the 5 private hospitals which is approximately Rs.4.81 billion."
The state's announcement of an investor-friendly medical policy in July may explain the investment proposals. The policy, with its tax-concession measures, was framed to promote investment in the state's medical sector. As per the policy, to get concessions and rebates, medical institutions would have to invest at least Rs.50 million. 10% of the total number of beds will have to be reserved for families below the poverty line, and these families will have to pay only 25% of the total amount incurred for complete treatment. New investors would also have to abide by environment rules for disposal of hospital waste.
The Jaipur Development Authority would allot land for the five proposals, the officials added.
- Reliance Medi-Care (Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group) the proposed Rs.2 billion Medi-City entails a 800 to 1,000-bed super-specialty hospital, a paramedical training center, an ayurvedic centre and other exclusive medical facilities
- Bombay Hospital is proposed to come up with a 650-bed, multi-speciality hospital at Rs.1.5 billion
- Dr. Rakesh Kedawat Hospital plans a 100-bed multi-specialty hospital at Rs.270 million
- International Occology Cancer Hospital plans a 100- bed hospital at Rs.540 million
- Sea Rock Hospital plans a 200-bed hospital at Rs.500 million

Yagya February 25th, 2011, 10:14 PM Zip Jap' zoom to Delhi in 90 mins
JAIPUR: If you are tired of travelling to Delhi via road and rail, it is time you can expect the unexpected!
Mamata Banerjee has sanctioned pre-feasibility work for the Jaipur-Delhi corridor to attain the speed of 200km/hr.
The Indian Railways will seek the help of Japanese expertise to convert its dream run into reality.
If this happens, you can zip through the distance in just 1.5 hours. The average speed of trains between Delhi and Jaipur currently is around 110 km/hr.
Speaking on the project, North Western Railway chief public relations officer, Lalit Bohara, said, "It is a remarkable proposal. To start with, a Japanese company will assist with the technicalities."
"The ministry has already roped in a Japanese firm to do the needful," Bohara said.
Asked, how many years it will take for the bullet train to become a reality, he said, "In this financial year, the Japanese firm will plan the blueprint and give its suggestions attaining the speed of 200 km/hour? The company will also suggest on the development of tracks and the signalling mode needed to run a train at such a speed. This work, including the study and logistics support, may take five years to complete."
If this works out properly, the railways can also increase its revenue by ferrying goods in such high speed trains. "The marble industry of Kishangarh may benefit hugely from this," said Kishan Lal Tekwani, a leading marble trader of Kishangarh.
Currently, it takes seven hours for goods trains to reach Delhi from Kishangarh!

JAYESH99 March 7th, 2011, 01:26 PM Jewellery traders from Jaipur are happy with the government's decision to start a direct flight to Bangkok from Jaipur, as it will boost trade.

Nek Kumar Khandelwal, a jewellery trader, said: "The concept of direct traveling will boost the gems and jewellery trade because of easy approach and it is time-saving."
" We are saving time instead of catching a flight from another airport. As time is money, it will greatly benefit us. The gap between Jaipur and Bangkok has lessened," he added.

Yagya March 9th, 2011, 10:32 PM Interactive museum to come up near Jantar Mantar
JAIPUR: Conceptualized over two years ago, the state-of-the-art interactive museum is finally set to see the light of the day.
The project has been designed by Barry Lord, a leading museum planner internationally. It has got an in-principle approval by the planning commission and will come up near the Jantar Mantar.
According to sources in the tourism department, "A proposal for a grant of Rs 45 crore has been sent to the Centre in the last week of February after a meeting with the planning commission. The project, to be located in the buffer zone of Jantar Mantar, is principally approved of and once we get the grant, the museum would be ready in two years time."
The detailed project report consists of two projects."One would be to convert the Jaleb Chowk into an art square and the other would be to develop the museum. Work is on at the Jaleb Chowk to restore the area to its original condition," he said.
The project by Lord Cultural Resources with Barry Lord finds mention in the list of projects Lord has undertaken as Sawai Man Singh Town Hall Museum, Jaipur, India, Planning and Consultancy Services, 2008 09.
The idea is to convert the Sawai Man Singh Town Hall into a world class museum and exhibition area, representative of Rajasthan's history. The mid 19th century two-storied structure (alongwith a basement) is currently under restoration.
This would help in attracting more visitors and also integrate it with other heritage structures in the Walled City area.
"The exhibitions at the museum would tell the story of Jaipur with an emphasis on the regional and historical aspects of Rajasthan, and include a gallery dedicated to children and families," a source said.
"There would be a life-size touch screen model of the city to depict its development from the time of maharajas to the present scenario. It would have a conservation lab with artifacts from all over Rajasthan and a dynamic gallery where artists can display their works at a nominal fee," the source added.
The main assembly hall with the help of a multi-media software would acquaint the tourists with the entire concept of the museum and elaborate on the details of the various sections besides explaining in detail about the features of Jantar Mantar.:cheers:

JAYESH99 March 14th, 2011, 08:19 AM JAIPUR: The Transport Nagar flyover will finally be open to commuters in the first week of April. It has thrice missed the deadline for completion. This assurance comes as a big relief for citizens who have been facing inconvenience for over a year by this delay. The flyover, built at the crucial intersection between the Jaipur Agra highway (NH11) and Jaipur Delhi highway (NH8) at the Transport Nagar crossroads, has long witnessed congestions.
The flyover connecting Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH8) with MI Road was expected to be completed before the Commonwealth Games but was postponed to January. The Transport Nagar flyover was aimed at easing traffic congestion from the huge number of tourists that were expected to visit the Pink City while attending the CWG in Delhi.
The JDA, executive engineer (Project II and Flyover North), NK Singhal, explains, "The curve from (NH8) to MI road is very steep and the JDA wanted to use the best quality of products for durability and strength. The best bearing company in the country has a monopoly and because of the work pressure, it delayed in supplying on time." The project had also seen several design changes; the construction was altered to suit the local requirements. "However, work is on at a good speed and it will be completed on time," he added.
The construction of another flyover connecting Delhi-Road to Jawahar Nagar Bypass is near completion and officials hope to start both flyovers together. Earlier, a three-level flyover was proposed here, however, the design was amended on the recommendation of the urban development ministry. In the new format, the traffic arriving from Delhi will reach MI Road through a flyover connector. Another part of the flyover will connect Jawahar Nagar Bypass near the proposed entry of Ghat Ki Guni tunnel.

The central surface transport ministry has taken a decision to build a 6 lane highspeed concrete expressway different from the present Jaipur Delhi highway. On this express way no camel carts, two wheelers, tractors or autos will be allowed like the Mumbai Pune expressway. According to reports 10,000 crores will be spent on this project in which land acquisition money is not included. This project will even be bigger than the Jaipur metro. The State govt has given a green signal to this project. On the 28th of march R.S. Gujral from the central ministry and S Ahmed from the Rajasthan govt will meet to decide how the project will come about. It is said the this project was put on the fast track after an agreement between C.P. Joshi the minister for surface transport and Rajasthan C.M. Ashok Gehlot.
SSCaddict March 27th, 2011, 06:58 PM ^^ why is this needed? i see corruption in this case like land for real estate development similar to Jaypee in yamuna expressway

Yagya March 27th, 2011, 07:12 PM JDA to use latest technique to build long-lasting roads
Jaipur: In an effort to make roads long-lasting, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has planned to develop concrete roads using 'Thin White Topping' technique. If the experiment turns out to be successful, then JDA will use the technique for construction of major roads.
According to sources, the JDA has instructed a few companies to develop half a kilometre road between Gandhi Circle and Tonk Road. The companies will do the patchwork on this road using 'Thin White Topping' technique, which is supposed to last for more than 15 years.
According to an official, around 15 cm of the bituminous layer of the road is removed and a new concrete layer is laid. The technique is around three times costlier as compared bituminous paving technique.
The official even claimed the road will not require maintenance, and will be more durable than the existing roads. "At present, this technique is used to construct roads in Mumbai and other big cities. We have directed companies to do patchwork on a small portion of the road using this technique," said VS Sunda, director of engineering cell with the JDA. He also added that companies will not charge anything from the JDA to do the patchwork.
Notably, damaged roads have left JDA red-faced. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot and urban development and housing minister Shanti Dhariwal too have criticised the JDA for poor condition of roads, which continue to affect traffic movement. The 'White Topping Technique' is supposed to improve the condition of roads in the city.

SSCaddict March 27th, 2011, 07:21 PM To increase trade between Delhi and Jaipur. :) corruption will happen but what can we do about it.
but isn't six lane(which is now being widened from 4 lane) and rail routes enough for trade?
Yagya March 27th, 2011, 07:32 PM I guess not. The Rajasthan side have always been interested in extending the Delhi Gurgaon expressway to Jaipur so must be some thought behind it. I can see it making a huge difference in the tourism industry and transportation of goods, marble/stone industry etc benefiting. I personally think making the distance shorter will help a lot especially when there won't be any two wheelers, carts etc. The railway is also planning to make the Delhi Jaipur route 200km/h and have have brought some Japanese consultants so I guess both sides are pushing to make the distance short. That's all I can think. Not really an expert on these type of issue.

Yagya March 30th, 2011, 12:38 PM
Yagya April 2nd, 2011, 12:11 PM 5
JDA has taken a 150 crore loan to build 5 railway overbridges. The bridges will take 210 crores and will relieve the public of the hassle at railway crossings. The railway will give 60 crores. Yagya April 4th, 2011, 06:27 PM Low-floor buses to go hi-tech
Jaipur: The low-floor buses in the city are soon going to have CCTV cameras to keep an eye on suspicious activities and to monitor the behaviour of drivers and conductors towards commuters. Not only this, commuters will also get to know the exact location of the buses via SMS or call.
A control room equipped with latest technology will be set up to track each of 260 buses running on 10 routes in the city. The Union urban development ministry has given green signal for it under the proposed Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS).
According to the sources, the features were part of 260 low floor buses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) but due to financial crisis the Jaipur City Transport Service Limited (JCTSL), the bus operator, failed to implement them.
"Next month an MoU will be signed with the company and commuters can avail the new facilities," said Malini Agarwal, managing director of JCTSL. The ministry has approved around Rs 48 crore recently to launch the system and also recommenced UTITSL, a government company, to sign a memorandum with the JCTSL for the implementation.
The company may also introduce smart card facility for commuters with the fund. Using smart card commuters can recharge seasonal tickets paying through internet.
Yagya April 4th, 2011, 06:29 PM Getting roads repaired just a click away
Jaipur: Now, getting roads repaired in your colony is going to be a click away. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has decided to introduce software-based helpline-cum-monitoring system which will show the progress of repair work and help citizens to register grievances.
According to the sources, the engineering cell of the authority is busy introducing the software for monitoring of almost of 7,000 km roads in the city. With the help of the system, the engineers will compile all expenditures on the roads and their plans for repair in future too.
With the initiative, the authority will make a user friendly approach to the citizens. For grievances regarding pot-holes and withering of roads, you will just need to login authority's website to access software and register demands of repairing. The engineer will improve such roads on priority. Also, the authority will be able to save expenditures on roads. "In the last financial year, the authority has spend almost Rs 17 crore on road repair. Some of the repaired roads were those which have been repaired twice and thrice but potholes still exist. Now, the authority with the software will keep data of roads where expenditures have been done without result," said a source with the JDA.
It is expected that software will be a major tool to supervise engineers and contractors. The software will show progress report of financial sanction to the roads. Thus, the authority administration can inquire the engineer concerned about the poor condition of road.
Yagya April 5th, 2011, 07:42 PM Soon, smooth drive down to Pink City from Delhi
NEW DELHI: In the next few years, driving down to Chandigarh and Jaipur from Delhi is likely to be better and more comfortable. The Centre is proposing to build to connect these two state capitals by constructing two expressways.
The highways minister C P Joshi told TOI that the proposal has been mooted considering the significant traffic growth on these two stretches and to meet the future needs. I have asked the officials to write to chief secretaries of Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana on this issue. The ministry wants to build these expressways before it becomes late, the minister said.
He added that once all the three states come on board with the Centre, government will go ahead with the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) of these twin expressways.
Sources in the ministry said that the two expressways will be green field ones and would be about 250km each. These will be on new alignments meaning these would not pass through inhabited areas. Delaying the process would hamper the development of these two roads considering the hectic development in the entire NCR, said a senior ministry official.
On the issue of contractual norms which restricts the Centre on building competing road to existing tolled highways (like Delhi-Gurgaon expressway), Joshi said the new roads can take off from new points and there would be no contractual issues.
Ministry officials said that the two expressways could start from a point which is at least 15km from the existing National Highways.
Though Delhi-Jaipur stretch on NH-8 which is being widened, the traffic load on this corridor is already high and there are reports of frequent jams. Its no different in the case of NH-1 that joins Delhi with Chandigarh.
With major urban development happening along these two highway corridors there are indications of major increase in the vehicle flow on these stretches.

Yagya April 13th, 2011, 05:02 PM Marriott to open 6 hotels this year
Global hospitality major Marriott International will open six hotels in India this calendar year, adding 1500 guestrooms to its inventory in the country.
With the launches, the total guestrooms of the US-based company in India would rise to 5,000 rooms and the number of operational hotels to 18.
Rajeev Menon, area vice president, India, Pakistan, Maldives and Malaysia for Marriott International Inc, said growth is the big focus for his company in India. We have 12 hotels in the India portfolio and are gearing up to open three more in the next 60 days. These will include a JW Marriott in Chandigarh (165 rooms), a Marriott in Jaipur (365 rooms) and a Courtyard by Marriott City Centre in Pune (178 rooms), he said.
During October to December 2011 Marriott plans to open three more hotels JW Marriott in Bangalore (300 rooms), Courtyard by Marriott in Bhopal (150 rooms) and a JW Marriott in Chennai (380 rooms). All the hotels in India so far are under management
contracts with different asset owners.
From growth perspective as one of the fastest growing international brands, we will be in the top league with 18 operational hotels across upscale, upper upscale and luxury brands in India, said Menon.
While Rahejas own the Bangalore JW Marriott, Viceroy Hotels is the asset owner of JW Marriott in Chennai. Incidentally, Viceroy is in the process of hiving off the two developments to reduce its debt burden.
Marriott, however, is optimistic that JW Marriot Chennai will open this year.
Delays are quite typical for any new hotel opening in India and may take three to six months more from the original schedule. We dont foresee any delay but in case there is, the Chennai hotel will start receiving guests early 2012. Our Renaissance Hotel in Bangalore (also owned by Viceroy) is scheduled to open sometime mid-2012 and is not part of the 2011 plans, said Menon.
Marriott will also introduce its Fairfield Inn & Suites brand of hotels in the mid-market business hotel segment. While management contracts would remain the key driver for Fairfields growth in the initial stage, Marriott may to take franchise route to expand its presence at a later stage.
Yagya April 14th, 2011, 03:00 PM
Yagya April 14th, 2011, 03:26 PM
Yagya April 15th, 2011, 02:03 AM Drilling of Ghat ki Guni tunnel gathers momentum
JAIPUR: After a number of delays, the drilling work for Ghat ki Guni tunnel has recently gained momentum. As the work to drill the approximately 858-metre-long tunnel has started, officials expect that the work will take eight months to complete. JDA's executive engineer, Sanjeev Kumar Jain says, "We have started drilling the tunnel from the Chulgiri end. Now that the work has gained momentum hopefully it will be completed in eight months."
He added, "The artificial portals to give the tunnel a shape after blasting have been erected and control blasting is being done. The process to strengthen the rocks inside the hill is time consuming. However, once it is done it is not that difficult to drill."
The quality of rocks on one end is comparatively weaker and not all that appropriate for drilling. Procedures such as rock bolting and various other processes are time consuming, he added.
The machines to drill the tunnel have been brought from the Dongah Geo Technical company. Experts from Logical Engineering have arrived in Jaipur. Experts and consultants from the Stup Consultancy have also been called to monitor possibly the biggest JDA projects.
The design for 65-metre-long flyover, a part of the project and which has to be constructed on Gonair Road, has been approved by the JDA. The flyover will be constructed outside the tunnel and it will connect the tunnel traffic with roads outside. An official said, "Residents of around 12 houses will be affected by the flyover construction will have to be rehabilitated. The proposal has been sent to the divisional commissioner."
After starting the major drilling officials target to end the project by 2013 .The tunnel would maintain an elevated height difference of 70 metre at Agra Road and Jawahar Nagar Bypass as per the Indian Road Congress code.
After it was proposed in 2005, it took JDA over five years to start the Rs 150-crore project rolling. A part of project is still waiting the nod from the forest department and work has been done in the approved alignment part. Due to various modifications in the length of the project, the length of the tunnel has gone up by 213 metres from the earlier measurement of 647 metres to 858 metres.

Yagya April 16th, 2011, 02:43 AM '

Yagya April 28th, 2011, 05:49 PM Chalo Dilli! It's just gonna take 4 hrs from Jaipur, soon
Jaipur: You will soon be able to reach Delhi from Jaipur in just four hours. The Rajasthan government has decided construct the proposed expressway between the two cities on a priority basis.
The expressway will bring much-needed relief to the commuters on the busy route as they will no longer have to face bumpy roads on the Delhi road at Shapura and frequent traffic jams in Bhiwadi and Behror.
Dinesh Kumar Goyal, principal secretary, public works department (PWD), said the state government has decided to take up the project on a priority basis to provide people a safe and fast route to the national capital.
The decision was taken in the wake of the mounting pressure on the Jaipur-Delhi NH-8 even as the six laning work on the highway is in progress. The proposed expressway will connect the proposed ring road in Jaipur to the Kundali-Manesar-Palwar (KMP) expressway in Haryana, which is already under construction.
"Once complete, the expressway will significantly reduce traffic on NH-8 as it will be much faster and safer. The alignment of the road is still to be fixed after a pre-feasibility study," Goyal said.
According to the officials, the expressway will cross through industrial areas of Bhiwadi and Behror and will end on the western end of Jaipur bypass allowing new industrial areas and other development activities.
The PWD has been given the responsibility of preparing the map for the expressway while the Bureau of Investment Promotion (BIP) has been entrusted to get the project's pre-feasibility report prepared.

India101 May 16th, 2011, 12:47 PM Marriott Jaipur to open gates this month-end (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/jaipur/Marriott-Jaipur-to-open-gates-this-month-end/articleshow/8356230.cms)
JAIPUR: The cacophony of construction that spanned over two years, involving about 1,000 workers a day, has slowly ended. Marriott International Jaipur is now gearing up for the D-Day towards the end of this month, when the gates will be thrown open to its guests. After a gap of eight years, the city will add another reputed 5-star chain to its illustrious list. General manager of Jaipur Mariott Pankaj Birla, speaking to TOI, said the hotel will be different and has new and exciting things to offer.
"Besides the leisure segment, we will pitch property as a destination for MICE and wedding activities. For this, the city has immense potential and Marriot, as an international brand, has a strong marketing network. We will tap this enviable synergy to create our own space, without, sort of, competing with the existing hotels," said Birla.
The hotel has already booked a conference of INK (Innovation & Knowledge) in December that will host 500 delegates from various parts of the globe, including celebrity speakers, world's most fascinating thinkers and achievers from various disciplines.
"The 43,000 sq. ft. area that Marriott has dedicated for such mega events reflects our thrust on the segment. The hotel's convention centre can accommodate 1,000 with all required facilities that go with such events. The city doesn't have any property that can host such large gatherings. The best city hotels don't even have capacity to host a gathering of more than 250 people," added Birla.
With seven floors and 365 rooms, Marriott also assigns equal importance to high-profile weddings for which the Pink City has carved out a special niche.
"Jaipur has emerged as one of the premier locations for weddings. With demand growing, the city needs to have top-end facilities. Marriott's strategy to have the biggest ball room in the city covering 6500 sq. ft. is part of this thinking," added Birla.
Marriott has positioned the property as a 5-Star deluxe hotel with services at affordable rates. Since it doesn't want to price itself out and plans to cater to the local demand, its rates are also less than what it could cost in Delhi or Mumbai for same standard of services.
"Our room tariff range between Rs 8,000-Rs 9,000. For the same facilities and services, it would cost one Rs 10,000- Rs 12,000," added Birla. Marriott has forayed into Jaipur with a partnership with Dangayach Group having interests in hotels, real estate and jewellery. Sources say the Jaipur-based group has invested Rs 250 crore in the property.

Officials have been directed to look for land on Sikar, Shivdasdaspura, Delhi-Jaipur-Kaalwar road and Jamwa Ramgarh road. The JDA will look for government-owned greener pastures for the purpose. "As there is no periodic surveillance, many such government land has been illegally encroached by the land mafia, who later develop housing societies there," the official said.
With the development of the woodland, the temperature is also expected to come down by a few degrees. This will benefit people in the summer season. The JDA will plant around 5 lakh different species of trees in six woodlands. According to sources, Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned for the project. The planting of trees is expected to be over before monsoon, so that saplings benefit from rain.

In the city based initiative, residents can come and plant any tree sapling in the woodland area and the JDA will take care of them.

Yagya May 25th, 2011, 06:45 PM Police to restore oldest heritage building in Jaipur
JAIPUR: There was a massive outcry when Rajasthan police occupied the oldest heritage building on MI road. But in the last two months, they have probably done what the previous occupants failed to do.
Not only have the police got the grime out of the Government Hostel, that was the oldest heritage hotel about 128 years old, the two-storey stone structure glows with all the flood lights.
When the cops took it from the tourism department for using it as the new Commissionerate, the electrical wiring and switch boards were hanging out leaving the walls damaged, the sanitary fittings in the bathrooms were in pieces, partitions pulled out in a hall and the flooring cracked.
"We are determined to keep the heritage character of the building. Several coats of lime that have been painted on the facade are being removed to make a base for a fresh coat of colour on the exterior facade,'' said police commissioner Bhagwan Lal Soni. "At the moment, basic repair and restoration work is on to make the building usable. But with a budget of Rs 86 lakh so far and CM Ashok Ghelot's vision to make it a state-of-the-art office, more plans are in the pipeline."
Once restored, the building will have three visitor rooms, a computerised reception area that would guide people to various departments, a paved parking space in the rear, an ATM and tea/coffee dispensers for the public. More than 500 officers and staff are expected to work out of the facility.
There is another benefit. The Shaheed Smarak that looks across the building is also getting a facelift.

Yagya May 31st, 2011, 07:47 PM 2-level underground parking project at Ramniwas Garden
Introduction:
Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, is major economic hub and tourist destination in the North-eastern region of the state. The walled city of Jaipur, popularly known as the pinkcity, is the commercial centre and an important tourist destination of Jaipur. On an average this thriving activity centre attracts about 27000 cars and 64000 two wheelers everyday.
Currently, walled city is facing considerable problems of traffic congestion and management on account of large number of vehicle on road, mixed traffic conditions and limited availability of parking space.
In order to address the above problems the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) proposes to develop parking site near the walled city area of Jaipur i.e. at Ramniwas Garden.
This parking project is pending for Five years due to Public litigation now Honble High court has cleared this parking in January 2010.
Project Detail:
Total Estimated cost - 50.30 Crore
2-Level Underground Parking.
Parking Area 16000 Sqm. Per Floor
Equivalent Car Space 987
Sub way to connect Parking and Wall city.
Project Benefit:
The project would relieve the walled city of traffic congestion and subsequent ill effects such as congestion, pollution and inconvenience and restricted and unsafe movement of pedestrians.
By relieving the walled city of traffic congestion, the project would not only ensure smoother and safer movement of vehicles and pedestrians but also improve aesthetics of the walled city. The spectacular streetscape of the walled city which currently does not manifest itself amidst heavy traffic movement would become visible.
Provision of a convenient parking facility would enhance economic activities in the walled city area and would act as a boost to the local trade and tourism activities.
The project is an attempt towards better traffic management in the historic core of the city of Jaipur that would lead to revival of the urban centre and creation of a viable urban green space in the heart of the city.

Yagya June 11th, 2011, 02:19 PM New decongestion project for Walled City in the offing
Jaipur: The revitalisation project of the walled city has not taken off yet, though the state government has come up with the idea of a new 'decongestion project' to redress civic issues and transport problems of the city.
According to sources, the government has directed the Jaipur development authority (JDA) to take an initiative to draft a plan on traffic congestion and growing encroachments.
For this purpose, the authority (JDA) has hired a consultant, urban mass transit company limited (UTMCL). The company will charge around Rs 60 lakh to draft the detailed project report (DPR) of the plan.
The government's intentions may be noble, but it has also raised questions over superfluous funding on consultants.
According to sources the authority has already hired consultant Feed Back Venture, for developing draft plan for a world class city under the title Jaipur Vision-2030.
The company is supposed to charge around Rs 50 lakh for the consultancy. This agency was working with all government public dealing departments to identify problems and propose solution models in which the walled city was also included, the sources added.
Sources said the Centre had sanctioned this project worth `42 crore in 2007 under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). The plan was proposed to redress traffic woes in the walled city in particular.
Underground parking at Aatish Market, Bari Chaupar, Choti Chaupar, Ramganj Chaupar were proposed to reduce traffic woes. In addition, green islands were also proposed around all the city gates.
The JDA officials also say consultancy on almost identical projects was nothing but waste of money.
"We know about the revitalisation project of the walled city. But we can do nothing as the state government had directed us to hire consultant for the decongestion project," the officials said on anonymity.

Yagya June 14th, 2011, 03:10 PM

Yagya June 30th, 2011, 02:20 PM

Yagya July 2nd, 2011, 06:19 PM Jaipur all set to get drug test lab
Jaipur: After a long wait of 30 years the drug testing lab at Jaipur has now acquired the facility of conducting microbiological investigations as well. Till now drugs samples were being sent to Central Drug Laboratory in Kolkata for testing but since the past six months the CDL had started refusing outside samples for testing.
"The new microbiological lab will be functional soon as we have got the calibration certificate now," an official at the drug testing lab in Jaipur said.
According to experts, around Rs 200 crore business of spurious and sub-standard medicines is flourishing across the state and the Drugs Control Department till now was not even equipped to test antibiotics, eye drops, vaccines, anti-retrovirals, vitamins, anti-oxidants, immunoglobulin, devices and other medicine in the state.
There are 311 manufacturing units, 15,900 retail and 10,950 wholesale outlets of medicine in the state.
"Now the lab at Jaipur will be able to test injections, IV fluids, eye drops and antibiotics. We are hopeful that the other testing facilities of more complicated drugs will also be available in the state in coming time," an official said.
Health department has released a budget of more than Rs 1 crore for the lab two years ago but the work could not be completed due to disputes between head of the lab and the PWD which has built the building of the new lab.

Yagya July 2nd, 2011, 06:21 PM Minibuses to have stands on major link roads
Jaipur: In a bid to reduce traffic chaos in the city, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has decided to develop bus stands for private minibuses. The bus stands will come-up on all those roads linked with the major highways.
JDA Commissioner Kuldeep Ranka took the decision in a traffic control board meeting on Friday. According to the decision, a committee under traffic police deputy commissioner Rohit Mahajan and regional transport officer BL Jatawat will search land for the upcoming stands within the three-day deadline, after which the authority will start process of allotting land. The committee will also search land for parking areas in the nearby areas for buses and other vehicles.
Initially, the JDA decided to develop bus stands on roads connected with Tonk Road, Sikar Road, Agra Road, Delhi Road and Ajmer Road. The linking roads connected with primary roads (which are also highways) will have stands for minibuses.
Director of Engineering Cell of JDA VS Sunda said roads connecting with the highways mostly witness traffic chaos. "The minibuses are primary cause of traffic chaos. But, the stands can be helpful to abate chaos up to a great extent as buses will get sufficient space in stands," said Sunda. Also, the initiative will allow other vehicles to run smoothly.
The new bus stands will be helpful in ferrying commuters in a better way.

Yagya July 3rd, 2011, 01:30 AM Busiest roads in city to become disabled-friendly
Jaipur: Commuting in busy and crowded market places of Jaipur will no longer be a nightmare for the physically-challenged people. Three busiest roads of the city will soon become disabled friendly. The proposal in this regard was floated by traffic police in the meeting of traffic control board.
Traffic police has recommended making Johari Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar and MI Road more disabled-friendly by constructing special ramps, pavements and special crossings for disabled people. Special parking slots for the disabled have also been proposed at different locations at these three routes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Rohit Mahajan said, "We have recommended that busy and crowded market areas like Johari Bazar, Bapu Bazaar and MI Road should become disabled friendly. We have recommended that special ramps and pavements should be constructed at these places. Besides this, we have also proposed for allocation of exclusive parking slots and special crossings for disabled persons.
The initiative will not only help in solving traffic problems but it will be a great help to the physically-challenged persons, especially those on wheelchairs. Earlier, CUTS staff along with a trained group of access auditors, which included disability activists, persons with disability, speech and hearing impaired people, parents of autistic child, architects, engineers and legal experts conducted an access audit at the DCP traffic office.
The group later proposed DCP traffic for inducting special commuting facilities for the disabled in busy market places of the city. The detail report of the audit will soon be submitted to DCP.
CUTS Director George Cheriyan informed that similar audit will be conducted at ten more government offices where people visit in large numbers.

Yagya July 5th, 2011, 08:29 PM Carrefour's second store to come up in Jaipur
After Delhi, French retailer Carrefour India is likely to set up its second cash and carry store at Jaipur. Expanding its retail canvas, the company is also scaling up its IT platform to enable its customers shop online.
According to industry sources, Carrefour is keen to establish its presence in North India. The ground breaking ceremony was performed a month ago and construction work has already begun. The Jaipur store is likely to be opened later this year. However, the store will be smaller in size than the Delhi store.
In December 2010, Carrefour had set up its maiden outlet in Delhi's Seelampur area. The 56,000 sq.ft store houses over 10,000 stock keeping units.
Sources said that with other players in the business such as Walmart and Metro also expanding their India presence, Carrefour is also adopting a similar strategy. The company had earlier indicated that it was keen to set up store in the North before venturing elsewhere.
Meanwhile, the world's second largest retailer has also initiated the process of setting up an e-commerce site in India for its cash and carry customers.
Subhodip Bandopadhyay, Carrefour WC & C India DirectorIT Supply Chain and Organisation, said, We are also in the process of building a platform for e-enablement to engage our customers. Keeping in mind the Indian IT growth story and tech savvy biz establishments all over India, particularly in National Capital Region, we believe, it will be one more way of delighting our customer base.
Carrefour has got six major customer segments which includes hotels, restaurants, catering companies, offices and institutions apart from small traders, kirana stores. Keeping in mind the unique requirement of these specific customers, we are offering them multiple channels of engagement. It happens through phone call, e-mail, direct contact on the shop floor, Bandopadhyay
The company said that individual consumers will not be able to use the site when it goes online due to Government's restriction on multi-brand retail trading. Carrefour has chosen IBM-Websphere Commerce as the platform and implementation is being done by Salmon India and the services will rolled out later this year.
Carrefour offers online shopping in France, Spain, Belgium and Turkey with services such as home delivery and an inventory of in-store or in-warehouse collections.

JAYESH99 July 8th, 2011, 08:42 PM With the city being caught in continuous traffic jams and there being no scope of widening roads, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is exploring the possibilities of constructing another elevated road in the city.
The JDA is preparing a concept plan of the elevated road from Govind Marg to the Narian Singh circle. Jaipur Development Commissioner, Kuleep Ranka, said, "As the traffic pressure of heavy vehicles on this road is high, we are looking at the possibility of constructing an elevated road."
The JDA officials have been directed to survey the road and draw a feasibility report on constructing the elevated road. The actual concept plan will be drawn by the expert consultancy firm. "The report requires high expertise. That's the reason consultancy firms are appointed. If alignments are changed in the later stages, it costs a lot, so it is better that expert firm make the report. After JDA official are satisfied, we will take the matter forward."
The JDA is planning to construct an elevated road on this route as it provides connectivity to heavy vehicles on the Jaipur-Delhi Highway NH-8. "At Transport Nagar, the traffic flow has been made smooth. But there is a lot of congestion on Govind Marg to Narian Circle," Ranka said.
It is expected that the JDA will construct a three-km elevated road. The proposal to construct a concept plan of the elevated road was taken after it was suggested by the urban development minister, Shanti Dhariwal. The idea will also be presented in front of the chief minister in the project review meeting. Sources in the department said the JDA officials are not finding it feasible to construct an elevated road from Govind Marg to Narain Circle and have suggested to construct an elevated road from Jawahar Nagar to Shanti Path for smooth traffic flow coming from NH 8 to the city.
Recently, the state government approved elevated roads over the Khasa Kothi flyover from Collectorate Circle to Government Hostel Square and Rajnivas Palace junction along Sardar Patel Marg.
Similarly, the second road passing over the Bais Godown flyover would be built from Sodala Square up to Katputli Nagar bifurcation. The Rs 300-crore projects would ease out traffic flow in busy areas like Collectorate, MI Road, Civil Lines and Bhawani Singh Road.

Yagya July 20th, 2011, 05:49 PM

Faηade
The scalable low-rise strucure houses a five-star hotel in the "Pink City" of Jaipur. The faηade features a double skin of extruded terra cotta creating a modern interpretation of the traditional Indian Jalis. During the daytime hours, the terra cotta provides shading and the faηade resembles a traditional lantern of Rajasthan in the evening. The primary weathering faηade is comprised of semi-unitized Low-E glass and structural glass at the ground floor.

Yagya September 9th, 2011, 11:18 PM Walled City markets to get new lease of life
Jaipur: The Urban Development and Housing (UDH) department reviewed the vision document-2030 for Jaipur city on Wednesday. The officials have asked a consultancy agency to furnish document by coming Tuesday.

"The department has assigned this project to Amber Development and Management Authority (ADMA) that has already taken the initiative for renovation and is expected to complete the work in two years time," he said.
The officials also decided to give a world class information system to Jaipurites and the visitors coming to the Pink City. As per the decision, the department has proposed `30 crore for standard type of signage to be placed in almost every street of the city. The signage will carry picture of a famous building and structure that will inform the visitors about the area.
The UDH department has also assured of launching an integrated garbage management system soon wherein door to door garbage will be collected. The fee for this service will be included in the monthly electricity bill.
Earlier the officials pondered over the progress of the vision document. Sandhu told mediapersons that consultant agency Feedback Venture has almost completed its reports on major projects whereas the agency is working to finish the remaining projects after holding discussion with the government department.

Yagya September 9th, 2011, 11:53 PM JDA to use fibre in roads to avoid cracks, potholes
Jaipur: After using white-topping technique on roads, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is now considering to use fibre technique to reinforce city roads. This technique will minimise cracks on roads and soon people can expect to enjoy smooth ride.
Fabtech Company gave presentation on fibre technique to JDA engineers on Wednesday. According to sources, the company representatives informed the engineers about the advantages of fibres (made of geo-synthetic) that can hold road (concrete) for a long time. With this technique roads will not develop cracks and potholes for years. The technique is cheap as it costs just Rs 10 per sq ft.
"The company gave a presentation on the use of the technique. It is a good technique as it is supposed to improve the life of roads. No cracks will be visible on roads as the fibres will work as reinforcement," said VS Sunda, director engineering in the JDA.
He also added that authority will consider adoption of technique in laying down roads in the near future.
"For this we asked the company to work on an experimental basis on a single road. If the experiment gives good results then we can use the technique on other roads in the city too," said Sunda.
He also clarified that other states are using such technology to construct roads, but probably this technique would be used for the first time in Rajasthan. Also this technique is approved by the Indian Road Congress.
The authority is experimenting constantly to improve the condition of roads in the city. Recently JDA had handed over 1 kilometre stretch of Tonk Road to a private company to use white-topping technique. This technique is inspired from Indore where the local bodies have developed many roads using this technique.
Reliance also gave a presentation in JDA showing material that strengthens buildings.
According to sources, the authority is considering giving an opportunity to the company to exhibit the advantages in few of its construction sites.

Yagya September 10th, 2011, 12:56 AM From city to Metro via Ring Road
Jaipur: Urban transport would now be the deciding factor in Jaipur's future expansion and development as a metropolis. In the latest master plan for city's development in horizon year 2025, the planners have heavily banked on the transportation infrastructure in crafting their vision for Jaipur's development model in 2025.
The master plan estimates the city's population to reach nearly 70 lakh by 2025. Based on the projections, the rural area in Jaipur region would come down to 15 per cent from the existing 55 per cent.
A three-tier division has been made in the urban and ecological areas of the city under the new plan using the ambitious Ring Road as the epicenter of the city's expansion. The government has divided the city in three primary sectors - U1, the core city flanked by the Ring Road; U2, the city area outside the Ring Road and U3 the area falling along the major highways with potential for city's expansion.
Further, urban planners have remodeled their growth projects around the Jaipur Metro and Bus Rapid Transit System.
The city's master plan for the horizon year 2025 has placed most arterial roads under mixed land use (it allows commercial centres alongside residential activities), the concept on which the walled city was built 300 years ago.

Yagya September 12th, 2011, 06:01 PM Major park to come up in Mansarovar
JAIPUR: Residents of Pink City will soon get another big park. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is all set to develop the new landscape on around 96 bighas in the Mansarvaor area.
JDA commissioner Kuldeep Ranka said on Sunday, "We have appointed a firm to prepare a detailed project report for the initiative. As soon as it is finalised we will start the plantation and civil work."
"It would take at least one year to develop the park," he said. The Delhi-based consultancy firm has already given a first-step plan where beautification of the nullah and suggestion for development of the park without tampering the natural beauty were mentioned.
The state government had recently allotted around 40 hectares of nullah land near Shipra Path behind Jhoolai Lal market to the JDA to develop this park. An official source said, there had been a prolonged dispute between Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) and irrigation department over the rights on this land. However, only in a recently concluded meeting headed by the chief secretary, S Ahmed, it was decided to allot the land to the JDA for the development of a park. Residents have welcomed the news and say, "This will be beneficial for us. As the city is expanding such parks are required and such proper segmentation in different zones will reduce travel time to use such facilities."
Regarding the dense plantation in the area, the JDA has decided to name the park "Woodland". A senior JDA official said, "This park will be developed on the model of Smriti Van. Soon major changes will be made and the natural area will be preserved and developed." He added, "It will be a huge benefit for many residents as people staying in that area cannot come to Central Park." As the park will be in a Nallah, the JDA will construct a biological treatment plant to control the foul smell.
The firm will be charging 3% of the total project cost to design it. An official said that this was the same the company that was appointed for the landscaping of Amanishah nallah, however, with incomplete preparations due to many slums developed in the area the project could not be completed. Because of this the company was awarded to design the Woodland Park.
The park is slated to be as big as the Central Park in C-scheme.

Yagya September 16th, 2011, 05:21 PM

@nikh: yeah from what I heard the project ran into legal hurdles regarding land hence the delay.
Yagya October 5th, 2011, 01:05 AM Soon, swipe to pay your traffic challans
Jaipur: Traffic violation penalties will soon come without the punishment of exhausting paperwork for deposition the penalty sum. After the violator is issued a traffic citation ticket, he will soon have option to pay the fine on the spot through credit card, deposit it at the local bank branch or pay through the conventional method in cash.
The Jaipur traffic police are discussing options to enable payment of penalties through credit card and at bank counters with several banking institutions. "The proposal is in initial stages. But the banks have responded positively to the proposal," said Rohit Mahajan, DCP (traffic).
According to sources, the police department is discussing the project with 4-5 banking institutions. The scheme might get introduced in November on pilot basis.
The advanced collection service not only comes as a partial relief to those faced with traffic violation citation, but it will also considerably eliminate possibilities of misappropriation in collections.
Initially, the service is expected to be made available for routine penalties and its scope will gradually be increased to include other financial transactions of the traffic department. It will however, take a few months before the card swiping machines reach the local traffic policemen.
"The move [to introduce card swipe option] will also reduce the documentation work associated with cash collection of penalties. It will help to make better use of the available resources," said an official. Officials were however unable to outline details of the proposal as discussions continue with banks and adjustment might be required in accordance with the feasibility.
However, similar process have been implemented successfully in several developed countries. Officials in the police department have assured that in coming days the system would be modernised further and online conveniences will be extended to the people.

nikh.mittal October 10th, 2011, 07:31 AM Jaipur: The new stadium of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) will have covered roofs along with fountain foggers and fountain misters in the stands to spare spectators from agony of sitting in torturous sun and hot conditions.
The new stadium to be completed in two years at the cost of Rs160 crore will also be the first green stadium in Asia, the RCA claimed.
"It would be the first green stadium in Asia with all the features of platinum rated green building. Apart from ample green area, there will be many environment friendly features," said Dr Bimal Soni, deputy president of RCA. Indore-based Mehta & Associates has been selected to design the stadium near Amber Fort on Jaipur-Delhi Highway that would be ready in 18 months after tenders are finalised.
The architectural firm in collaboration with a British company has proposed to build the stadium in a way which could also be used as a five-star hotel. "There will be 100 corporate boxes that would be like independent suites to be used for hotel purpose when there is no event," Dr Soni informed. The stadium for which the state government has allocated 54 acres of land at concessional rates will have capacity of around 60,000. The cost of the project will be Rs160 crore to be funded through grant from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and loans, RCA's acting secretary K K Sharma said.
According to him, the RCA will also build an international level stadium in Udaipur for 20,000 spectators. It would cost Rs40 crore. He said that the RCA president has also invited proposal from Jodhpur cricket association to develop facilities in order to organise some IPL matches there.

Yagya October 15th, 2011, 09:32 PM Polo Stadium to come soon
Jaipur: Two years wait for a polo lover or a horse rider is not too much, as the passion drives the game. Jaipur will have its own Arena Polo Stadium in 2 years. Jaipurites will have to await another two years to watch horse polo in Arena as the project has not been completed yet.
The Arena is situated at the Organized archery, shooting and equestrian sports (OASES) complex situated in Jagatpura. The foundation stone was laid during BJP led government, in Vasundhras tenevour, almost 4 year back. But till now the project is under construction, and a wait of horse riders is not over yet. Shanti Dhariwal visited the organised archery, shooting and equestrian sports (OASES) complex situated in Jagatpura. After inspecting the shooting range, he came to the Arena Polo Stadium, where he found things in mess, including the slow pace of works and the rusting of the irons.
Only the shooting range work in Arena has to be completed. It needs around `20 to 30 crore rupees. Later Dhariwal also inspected the proposed site of habitat centre on the OTS campus situated at JLN Marg.
The design work for the project has already been assigned to a private firm and the ground work is supposed to be started this year. There are slight changes in the project. Now the proposed auditorium for 1,200 people instead of 500 will be constructed. The centre will have restaurant, bar and hotel too.

Yagya October 20th, 2011, 06:30 PM

Yagya October 21st, 2011, 05:42 PM JDA suggests changes in Woodland Park
JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has asked the Delhi-based consultancy firm to make some changes in the design of the proposed Woodland Park on around 96 bighas in the Mansarvaor area.
After the consultancy firm has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) to beautify the nullah on which the park would be developed, some changes were suggested by the JDA officials to be included in the report for its development without destroying its natural beauty.
"In the design of the park, construction of a water body was proposed. However, we have not included it in the park. Also, we have mentioned to lay a kuchcha walkway in the park. We have also asked the concerned firmed to increase the parking area in the park. As soon as it is finalised we will start the plantation and civil work. It would take at least one year to develop the park," said an official.
The state government had recently allotted nearly 40 hectares of nullah land near Shipra Path behind Jhulelal market to the JDA to develop the park. There had been a prolonged dispute between Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) and irrigation department over the rights on this land, said an official. However, in a recent meeting presided over by the chief secretary, it was decided to allot the land to the JDA for development of the park.
As the park will be in a nullah, the JDA will construct a biological treatment plant to contain the foul smell, said an official.
The firm will be charging 3% of the total project cost to design it. An official said that this was the same company that was appointed for the landscaping of Amanishah nullah. However, with incomplete preparations due to many slums in the area, the project could not be completed. Because of this, the company was asked to design the Woodland Park.
The park is slated to be as big as the Central Park in C-Scheme.

Yagya October 22nd, 2011, 03:46 AM

Yagya October 29th, 2011, 02:05 AM 60

Yagya October 30th, 2011, 02:08 AM

Yagya October 30th, 2011, 02:22 AM 205

Yagya October 31st, 2011, 07:36 PM

Yagya November 5th, 2011, 03:34 PM Ghat ki Guni: JDA to start interconnecting of tunnels
JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials announced on Friday that they would start the work of interconnecting two tunnels at Ghat ki Guni within two weeks. The authorities recently completed the drilling work of both the 858-metre-long tunnels.
"With the completion of drilling, 50% of the work has been completed. The project is on time and will be completed within deadline," said an official. After starting major drilling, officials plan to end the project by 2013.
According to the Indian Road Congress code, the tunnel will be connected from two places after every 300 metres. The tunnel would maintain an elevated height difference of 70 metre at Agra Road and Jawahar Nagar Bypass as per the Indian Road Congress code. Also, the width of one tunnel would be around 21 metres.
The work for the 65-metre-long flyover, which has to be constructed on Goner Road, will also start soon. A flyover will be constructed outside the tunnel and it will connect the tunnel traffic with roads outside. An official said, "The JDA has already completed the procedure to 'rehabilitate' people of three houses which will be affected by the flyover construction. There are around 12 such houses; the procedure to rehabilitate the remaining nine houses will be done this week."

Yagya November 8th, 2011, 05:40 PM

Yagya November 12th, 2011, 10:05 PM Low-floor mini buses to run in Walled City soon
JAIPUR: The Jaipur City Transport Services Limited (JCTSL) is set to operate a new fleet of low-floor buses in the Walled city area in December.
These will replace the old big buses which the traffic police had declared unsuitable for commute in the congested area.
Deputy commissioner, Bus Rapid Transit Service, Preeti Mathur, said, "We will launch 20 minibuses to operate on the congested roads of the Walled City. These will be launched in December." "We have submitted the route map and are waiting for the state government approval," she said.
These buses will run on two-three routes covering majority of the Walled City area. "The places which were not connected with the bus service in the past, can now be covered by the new fleet," said Mathur.
After receiving tenders from Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland and Eicher Motors, the JCTSL assigned the project to Tata Motors. Each bus will cost JCTSL nearly Rs 10.5 lakh. A team of officials had recently gone to Delhi to inspect the buses and suggested a few changes, a source said.
These buses will have a capacity to accommodate 30 passengers which can go up to a maximum of 35. The buses are also going to provide a relief to the traffic police which has been facing a tough time in managing the vehicular movement at peak hours. "Driving during peak hours has become a time consuming task. It is a good move to replace the big low-floor buses," said Devendra Jain, a shopkeeper in the Walled City area.

Yagya December 2nd, 2011, 07:27 PM JDA identifies fresh land for habitat centre
JAIPUR: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has identified land for the third time for the proposed habitat centre. This land is near the Akshaypatra behind JLN Marg. A senior JDA official said, "We have indentified around 10 beeghas of land near Akshaypatra to develop the proposed centre. On Friday, the proposal will be discussed with UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal and later will be sent to the state government." Official sources also claimed that Jaipur Development Commissioner Kuldeep Ranka has already given a green signal to the sight.
Earlier, the habitat centre was proposed in OTS (officer training school) campus. However, due to strong opposition from the officers, the decision was made to shift the location. "After the state government proposal to develop a centre at OTS on JLN Marg, IAS officers opposed the proposal strongly and claimed it will disturb officers' training," said an officer.
Before OTS campus, the project was proposed on the land where the Shiksha Sankul building is located.
Many non-government organizations (NGOs) also opposed the proposal as around 500 trees could be chopped off for the project. In this regard, grievances were registered at the JDA headquarters. Many NGOs also issued pamphlets declaring the project a threat to the green space of OTS. "There are not many trees that will need to be chopped off for the project on the land near Akshaypatra, and so it will suit all requirements," said an official.

Yagya January 20th, 2012, 07:25 PM City to have training centre for fire fighters soon
JAIPUR: The city will soon have its training centre for fire fighters, the first such centre in north India. An announcement in this regard was made during the foundation stone laying ceremony of Mansarovar zone office building on Thursday.
Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal said, "The Centre has given its nod for setting up the institute. The Jaipur Municipal Corporation ( JMC) has also taken 1800 square metres from Rajasthan Housing Board ( RHB) in Mansarovar. The work for the project will begin soon."
An official from the fire department said that the move will benefit the city as the fire department is working with a very small; number of trained staff on its rolls. At present in the fire wing there are only 168 firemen, of whom 108 are on contract and are not professionally qualified. Around 60% of the firemen are untrained and have learnt only from experience.
The fire department has only 60 permanent firemen and 20 of them are drivers. It lacks quality and quantity. A fire department official said there should be more than 800 firemen for a city with a population of more than 66 lakh.
Besides, there are many industrial areas like Vishwakarma, Sitapura, Jhotwara and Bais Godaam, which are always at risk. The city witnessed one of the biggest fire accidents in India, when the IOC depot caught fire in October 2009.
The department has 40 fire tenders out of which 30 are new. It has also bought a snorkel ladder from Finland which can help douse fire in buildings that are more than 15 metres. "The move will not only benefit our city but the entire north India," said Khandelwal.

City may soon get a bicycle track
JAIPUR: The city may soon get a dedicated bicycle track to promote cycling. In a bid to reduce road congestion, accidents and pollution, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is looking at possibilities to implement the public bicycle sharing (PBS) scheme on the lines of Barcelona's 'Bicing' and London's 'Boris Bikes'.
The JDA project director, N C Mathur said, "We have received a proposal from Embarq, the Centre for Sustainable Transport India to explore the possibility of public bicycle programme. It is mentioned in the proposal that 7 per cent of the trips in Jaipur are on bicycles, this needs to be further strengthened as bicycle is pollution-free and also provides health benefits." Mathur added that the bicycle sharing scheme will be implemented under Public Private Partnership (PPP).
A dedicated team of JDA staff along with Embarq will prepare a detailed project report (DPR) and any further decision will be taken in a meeting in February. The team will survey areas such as the Walled City, where the scheme will help to reduce maximum congestion.
The proposal also says that PBS scheme on a pilot basis with very few cycles will not be feasible, either financially or operationally. Hence it is recommended to initiate the PBS in the Pink City with 500 cycles at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
Explaining the concept, an official said, "Bicycle sharing is a public transportation system based on bicycles, generally stored in a closely spaced network of stations. With a smart card or other form of identification, a user can take a bicycle from a station and return it to any other station. About 200 cities across the globe have successfully adopted the PBS."
The cycle stations will have fully automated smart card check-in and check-out. The stations will also be solar powered which can be installed at a lower cost and also be eco-friendly. Even the bicycles will have specially designed parts to discourage theft.
