New Jack City July 13th, 2005, 01:46 AM Hey all,
These days I've been working on the NYC portal, if you don't know what a portal is, here's an example:
http://nl.skyscrapercity.info/
Anyway, I'm busy adding skyscrapers and all, but I'm having some trouble on the pictures for each tower. This is where you can all pitch in.
If you have a picture you would like to add or offer to appear on the portal page, feel free to respond in this thread with the pic. All credit will be given to you below the picture and let me know which name you want to use as credit, whether it's your forum name, real name, etc. The pics won't be sold or anything like that, we don't do stuff like that around here.
I'm gonna list the buildings I'm in need of most pictures of, but of course great ESB, Chrysler and other shots are welcome. These are basically for individual tower shots.
Buildings needed...
American International Building (70 Pine St.)
40 Wall Street (The Trump Building)
GE Building (30 Rockefeller Plaza)
The Cityspire
One Chase Manhattan Plaza
Metlife Building (PanAm, ugly one @ Park Ave)
Woolworth Building
One Worldwide Plaza
Bear Stearns
One Penn Plaza
AXA Center
1251 Avenue of the Americas (tallest of XYZ)
60 Wall St.
One Astor Plaza (at Times Square)
Metropolitan Tower (black one near Carnegie Hall Tower)
JP Morgan Chase World Headquarters
GM Building
500 Fifth Avenue
2 World Financial Center
Sony Building
Chanin Building
712 5th Avenue
245 Park Avenue
Irving Trust Company Building
599 Lexington Avenue
Paramount Plaza
Four Seasons Hotel
Random House Tower
1585 Broadway (Morgan Stanley Building)
277 Park Avenue (Chemical Bank)
Marine Midland Bank Building (one near WTC with red box sculpture)
Americas Tower
More's needed, but that's all I'll list for now.
The pictures MUST be taken by you.
Thanks for your help, I hope this portal turns out well and serves as a reference for all of us.
sfenn1117 July 13th, 2005, 03:33 AM Ask 7 World Trade to use some of his from his 7 different photo threads. It'll probably cover most of those towers!
New Jack City July 14th, 2005, 05:37 AM Guess not...:runaway:
7 World Trade July 14th, 2005, 06:21 PM hey savethewtc, if u want to use my pics, it's totally fine with me. if u want to give me credit (u don't have to of course), my real name's Jeremy Wu, just to let u know.
i think u'll be able to cover the skyscrapers in midtown with my pics (except for the cityspire trio). as for downtown, i only got pics of buildings within the immediate vicinity of the wtc site.
hey! metlife's not ugly! lol

Cool, thanks. I just need a name to put below the picture, so where it says "Source: [name here]," it could be the forum name or your real name, let me know which one you wanna use it, either is cool with me.
I'll have to go snap up pictures of the towers I'm missing myself, but it's always good to have shots from different people rather than the same person.
Metlife is totally ugly and downright nasty man...:runaway:
If anyone wants, PM me and I'll give ya the link of the portal page, I don't want to make it public just yet, but I'll give you NYC forum locals a sneak peak.
J - The pics gotta be by you, since we don't want any copyright issues and stuff like that. Plus everything will be hosted onto SSC's servers, no remote linking.
7 World Trade July 14th, 2005, 07:11 PM i don't really care whether u use my forum name or real name. how about this, if u use ur forum name for sourcing ur own pics, do the same thing for my pics, and use my real name if ur gonna use urs, just for the sake of consistency.
Patrick Highrise July 14th, 2005, 08:04 PM If I can help with pictures just ask me (sending PM or so)
Which buildings you still need after all those 7 WT pics! ;) :D :)
must I send them to you or how does it goes?? Let me know Jack! Good work! :okay: NYC

yeah...I saw that after the fact... got excited http://img326.imageshack.us/img326/3538/excited7cy.gif
TalB July 18th, 2005, 03:11 AM Unfortunately, I don't own a digital camera, so I can't put any pics that were taken by me personally. :(
New Jack City July 19th, 2005, 11:27 PM Alright, nearly 100 down in the portal, no clue how many more to go. :runaway:
That's just the basic info for these towers too, still gotta get facts, historical info and the pictures up for each.
Plus gotta add the new under construction, proposed, approved projects.
3tmk July 19th, 2005, 11:30 PM should we also add the countless number of residential buildings?
What is the requirement for buildings to come up there, 100m?
I'll see if I have anything else interesting beside what I showed you, also I might actually move my butt and go into this humid hell outside this weekend

Basically no requirement, we could do as we see fit, but I think stopping at 90 m/300 ft temporarily will be good idea then if we get bored we could always keep adding on more. Right now I'm up to the 175 m height range.
In the addresses of each tower I also added what street they are on, this way if any tourists or anyone wants to pin point it (sometimes can't tell where the tower is at by the official address) they have a better chance to do so.
Everyone, send me what you got, seriously...maybe not all the popular skyscrapers but any towers you have full shots or single tower shots, are good.
I'm definitely going to make a checklist of buildings I don't have and eventually get around to hitting them all, don't know when though.
Eventually the portal link when at a respectable viewing stage will be linked from the main NYC forum here. The two will interact with each other. This is our hope for all of NASF and the metro/city forums, NYC is the first one to start this up.
Wu-Gambino July 20th, 2005, 07:00 PM Here's all my NYC pics:
http://www.pbase.com/rclick/newyorkcity
Take what you need.
I also have some I didn't upload, so I might go through those later.
I can also give you my pics from a few years ago.
TalB July 20th, 2005, 10:50 PM I did here that recent projects such as Park Ave Place, 540 5th Ave, 10 Liberty St, 2 Gold St, 455 CPW, Morton Sq, Perry West Towers, The Helena, The Marc, and The Milan Condos are all completed.

Recently completed towers I'm going to check out myself and snap them up since I can't expect lots of people to have pics of these.
This is great, I have around eight or so people who are offering pictures, so it's going to take time to sort through them all and put 'em up, but it's gonna be worth it.
sfenn1117 July 21st, 2005, 10:01 PM 599 Lex:

We can also use pictures of towers from architects website, that's ok, we'll be given them proper credit anyway.
7 World Trade August 10th, 2005, 01:51 AM hey savethewtc, if u need pics of 345 park ave, i got a pic of it in my nyc trip part 4 photo thread. the pic of the building's just before the seagram building pic (i called it by another name, bristol-myers squibb building, since that company's hq-ed there, but that building and 345 park ave is one and the same).
there's a pic of 919 3rd ave in the same thread too, in case u didn't see it.
3tmk August 10th, 2005, 04:39 AM Well my problem is that I don't know the names of all buildings, I know many by their look though. Also I just can't recognize any of those international style towers on Park avenue from the other, they all kinda look similar :P
Otherwise, does anyone know what tower this is?
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/4994/20050129image00040yf.jpgand here's a shot I've never paid attention to of that curved tower on 57th street

No problem, if you got individual tower pictures like these, post them in this thread and we'll identify them. I get confused at times with all the boxes on the Avenue of the Americas. 7 World Trade is our skyscraper expert, no doubt. The first one is Tower 49 (anyone see the resemblance with this one and Park Avenue Plaza?) and the second is the Solow Building, one of the 2 sloped/curved towers in the city.
Oh, btw Phil, I got those Citibank in Queens pictures of yours from an older thread here, GREAT shots.
7 World Trade, thanks for pointing me to those two, your contributions to the project are amazing, you visited for so little time and yet snapped up so much!
New Jack City August 10th, 2005, 09:11 PM Hey 7 World Trade, I'm a bit confused here...what's the name of this one?
http://207.44.228.232/photopost/data//508/8245parkavenue8sr.jpg
STR August 11th, 2005, 12:09 AM ^That's the Chase World Headquarters in Midtown. ~700ft I believe.
7 World Trade August 11th, 2005, 12:46 AM ^
yep, STR's rite! that's j.p. morgan chase ur looking at there.
thanks for the compliments savethewtc. yea, i just pretty much took pics of any tall buildings i passed by. but hey, when ur all busy snapping away all these pics, u tend to forget to slow down and enjoy the feel of the city, and check out each building's architecture in details. that's something i regret not doing.
Dennis August 11th, 2005, 12:54 AM Jack u can use all the pics u want of my november trip
TalB August 11th, 2005, 08:56 PM We should probably add The Biltmore, Bloomberg Tower, 7 WTC, Bryant Pk Hotel, and the remaing Trump Place buildings since they are all completed or nearing it soon.

no idea about the 1st one. there're so many skyscrapers in nyc that look like that. maybe it's dag hammarksjold plaza, but that's just a wild guess.

1st one looks Seagram-like but without the class and elegance. I was looking at Dag Hammarksjold plaza pics and I think you're right. Compare the above pic with this one:

New Jack City September 23rd, 2005, 05:18 PM ^Anyones you're willing to share is fine with me, I'll take a look and then see if we have any similar ones of each tower and if not, then I'll put them up.
