Reported by Netease Sports Channel, May 13, 2005 Beijing time,
Indonesian top Hidayat Taufi is famous for his frankness and as a result, he is called“gunnery”. He didn’t join the match held between China and Indonesia on May 12th. On the exclusive interview, he keeps his direct style when talking about Chinese best three men’s single players.
REPORTERS:”Would you mind telling us why your eyes kept following Lin Dan when he was on the match yesterday?”
Taufi:”Well, I have to admit that I care about his match very much and I’m ill-affected at his title of‘Super Dan’. Lin has just simply got several more champions in tournaments and he lacks Championships for Asian Games and Olympic Games. In addition, I won over him in Indonesia and I don’t mind having another match with him. As far as I’m concerned, Lin Dan is powerful and vigorous, but it is not so hard to beat him because I’m more exquisite in technique.”
REPORTERS:“When fighting against Bao Chunlai, you’re not in a very good record. But on May 11th, after the match, you said that he was just a boy while you were a man. What does it suppose to mean?”
TAUFI:”That is exactly where the disparity lies. As for the match, I was upwind while he was low-speedy. I couldn’t adjust myself to that. Though his kills were not powerful, the accuracy of placement made me so hard to take response. However, technique is only one factor for a momentous match, wisdom and the spirits is more important. And I’m more experienced than him. As you can see, he almost got beaten by Lin Guangyi yesterday. That is why I consider him to be a‘boy’, boys characterize in being fragile in the zero hour.”
REPORTERS:”There is a saying that Chinese team will let Chen Hong attend the Men’s Singles in next match. What’s your opinion about that?”
TAUFI:”Well, I’ve never been scared of Chen Hong. And I keep an all-victory record in the last 6 matches against him. Maybe Chinese coach holds different opinions according to the results of Japanese Tournament. But I can tell you that I offered him a chance just because I felt so tired in the former match. And I welcome Chen very much to be my challenger again on Sudirman Cup.”
REPORTERS:”It seems to me that you’re not in good relationship with Chinese single players mention-above. And you’ve just neglected them when you met them.”
TAUFI:”It’s hard for top badminton players to be my friends and maybe I’m more popular with girls. For me, one or two good friend is enough. And Xia Xuanze is my only friend in Chinese line-up. But it is a pity that he doesn’t attend this tournament.”
REPORTERS:”What’s your comment on the possibilities of winning Sudirman Cup for Indonesia?”
TAUFI:”I hope, we will win. But it is true that we’ve still had some problems in women’s items.”
REPORTERS:”Since you’re in top form, then why do your coaches cover you up?”
TAUFI:”The coaches have their arrangements. But we have booked our berth in the semifinals and that is the most important. I’m eager to battle against Chinese players, and Lin Dan will be the most suitable one. He must be sure that my victory over him in Indonesian Tournament was owing to my home advantage.““But we have to defeat Denmark or South Korea as long as we want to encounter China in the finals. I hate South Korea the most because they downplayed and ragged us in the last Asian Games. I’m confident in beating them. As to Danish Gade Christensen Peter, I used to be swept by him but I’ve changed and become more confident in defeating him after the Olympic Games.”
“However, Chinese Lin Dan and Bao Chunlai are my primary opponents.”TAUFI added in the end of the interview.

China set up showdown with Indonesia

Updated: 2005-05-15 10:25
Badminton giants China are the strong favourites to lift the prestigious Sudirman Cup for the fifth time today when they meet Indonesia in the final of the world mixed team championships.
The host nation booked their spot in the final with a convincing 3-0 win over South Korea yesterday at Beijing’s Capital Gymnasium following Indonesia’s 3-0 sweep of Denmark in the other semi-final.
It was sweet revenge for China after their shock loss to the Koreans in the 2003 final in Eindhoven.
Indonesia won the inaugural edition of the biennial tournament in 1989, but China took home the trophy in 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001. Few would bet against them adding 2005 to the list given the way they have played so far this week.
Olympic champions Zhang Jun-Gao Ling opened China’s account against South Korea, with a 15-11, 11-15, 15-8 win over Lee Jae-jin-Lee Hyo-jung.
Lin Dan then demonstrated why he is the world number one men’s singles player with a 15-9, 15-11 victory over Jang Young-soo.
Zhang Ning, the women's world number two, cemented China’s place in the final with an 11-2, 11-1 win over Lee Yun-hwa to spark the celebrations.
Earlier, Indonesia got off to the perfect start in the key mixed doubles rubber with Nova Widianto-Lilyana Natsir handing down a comprehensive 15-4, 15-7 thrashing of Jens Eriksen-Kamilla Juhl.
Olympic gold medallist Taufik Hidayat then outfought former world number one Peter Gade-Christensen 15-10, 15-3.
Camilla Sorensen, who was promoted to the semi-final line-up after Tine Rasmussen raptured her Achilles tendon against South Korea on Thursday, won the opening game of the women’s singles 11-3 against Fransisca Hari.
But despite the vocal support from the crowd she lost the second game 8-11. Fransisca then seized on her momentum to take the final game 11-2 and clinch Indonesia’s spot in the final.
Indonesian head coach Christian Hadinata, surprised at the ease of victory, said it would be a much sterner test today against China.
He insisted, however, that Indonesia had the firepower to cope with whatever was thrown at them.
“As long as all our players play like they did today then we are confident that we can win tomorrow,” Christian said.
David-80 May 15th, 2005, 03:37 PM The mixed double game was the best game I ever seen in my life, too bad Indonesia didnt make it. It was a great game.
Another best game is now on between super dan vs taufik...very entertaining.
I think China and Indonesia are the best team in the world right now.
cheers
Alvin May 15th, 2005, 05:57 PM Indonesia lost 0-3 to China, the SUdirman Cup is back to China now after 2 years in Korea.
But the Indonesians put upa really good fight, and I am quite happy anyway eventhough they lost in the end. The Chinese are just too mighty!!
Btw Lindan beat Taufik in straight sets, though it was actually a very close , stunning match!

China trounces Indonesia to win fifth Sudirman Cup
China lifted the Sudirman Cup for the fifth time on Sunday, crushing Indonesia in a 3-0 championship romp in front of a home crowd.
The final got to a promising start for the Indonesians, with Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir taking the first game 15-12 against double Olympic champions Zhang Jun and Gao Ling.
But the Chinese pair roared back to take the second 15-5 and put their team one up by clinching the third 15-8 to the delight of the crowd.
That put the pressure on Taufik Hidayat when he came on to face left-handed world No. 1 Lin Dan.
Taufik, the Olympic champion, came back from 10-6 down to lead 14-12. Then Lin retaliated to level at 14-14 and force the game into setting.
Lin finished off the opening game 17-15. ADVERTISEMENT
He dictated game two and Taufik couldn't narrow the gap as the agile young star eased his way to victory 15-9 before saluting the crowd and raising a clenched left fist in triumph. Taufik was left downcast.
All that remained was for world and Olympic champion Zhang Ning to crown China's night by taking the women's singles.
Zhang raced through the first game 11-1 against world No. 86 Francisca Ratnasari Haris, making it look one-sided. But Haris was a stubborn opponent and made a fight of it until Zhang clinched the cup on her second match point with a perfect angled backhand drop.
Chinese coach Li Yongbo and his squad jubilantly lifted the trophy _ but not before his team threw him up in the air.
"They all played and performed well," Li said later at a press conference. "The players are now going to chill out for a short while."
Sunday night's win completed the triple sweep Li had been hoping for _ the Sudirman along with the Thomas and Uber cups from last year.
But Li is already making more plans.
"We have new missions," he said. "We will now be attaching importance to the world championships, the Asian Games and the Thomas and Uber Cup."
The 10th Sudirman Cup will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in June 2007.
JktCity May 15th, 2005, 06:39 PM demmit...the chinese are simply too powerful.....maybe next time...

Rexy to coach for Malaysia.........
PETALING JAYA: It will be a big boost to the development of Malaysian mixed doubles badminton if Indonesia's former doubles ace Rexy Mainaky takes up employment with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
Rexy, an Olympic and world champion, is tipped to become the second foreign coach after China's Li Mao to take up a coaching post in Malaysia this year.
He is expected to assist national chief coach Yap Kim Hock in taking charge of the doubles players in the national team.
Although the BAM were tight-lipped over the matter, it is believed that Rexy agreed in principle two day's ago to take up an appointment with them.
The BAM are expected to have more discussion on the terms of a contract when both parties meet up during the Sudirman Cup world mixed team competition in Beijing next week.
A final recommendation would still have to be made to the BAM council, who are expected to meet in the middle of the month.
Kim Hock did not divulge any details but said that they certainly need an extra hand, especially with the World Championships coming up in three months' time.
“All I can say is that we are short-handed and I need another coach to assist me. He has verbally agreed to come here to help with preparing the doubles players ahead of the World Championships in August,” said Kim Hock.
The BAM secretary, Gangga Rao, did not discount that Rexy is on top of their list.
Other coaches whom the BAM are looking at if things do not turn out their way are Chinese coaches Chen Changjie and Chen Kang, who have had stints in Malaysia before, and Thailand's Sompol Kukasemkij.
But having Rexy in the fold will definitely be a big boost to the doubles department, especially after the exit of Kim Hock's assistant Tan Kim Her, who left in January to coach in South Korea.
Kim Hock is currently assisted by former internationals Pang Cheh Chang and Chang Kim Wai in the training of the doubles players.
Rexy has a contract with the BA of England, which will expire at the end of next month.
With the English team, he has taken the mixed doubles pair of Nathan Robertson-Gail Emms to the silver medal in the Athens Olympic last August.
The pair also won the All-England title in March and they are the current world number one.
As a player, Rexy's biggest achievement was partnering Ricky Subagja to the Olympic title in Atlanta in 1996, beating Kim Hock-Cheah Soon Kit in the final.
The previous year, they emerged as the winners in the World Championships in Lausanne.

rhz July 13th, 2005, 04:34 AM Asia dominates World Group II Play-offs
Japan, Thailand, China PR and Indondesia have all secured places in the 2006 Fed Cup World Group II after victories in the World Group II Play-offs on Sunday. China PR has qualified for the Fed Cup World Group for the first time in its history, while Japan, Thailand and Indonesia have retained their World Group II status.
All four nations scored identical 4-1 victories, having started the day level at 1-1. The most surprising scoreline came in Tokyo, where an under strength Japan team upset their higher ranked opponents from Bulgaria. Akiko Morigami extended her unbeaten 2005 Fed Cup singles record to four matches with a 76(3) 63 victory over Bulgarian No. 1 Magdalena Maleeva 76 63. Aiko Nakamura then sealed a winning 3-1 lead with a 64 76(2) victory over fast-rising 15-year-old Sesil Karatancheva.
Suchanun Viratprasert was Thailand's heroine in their 4-1 victory over the Slovak Republic in Bangkok. After Tamarine Tanasugarn defeated Slovak substitute Magdalena Rybarikova 61 62, the Thai No. 2 scored her second victory of the weekend, 64 62 over Lubomira Kurhajcova, to seal the home triumph.
There were no problems for China PR, who dropped only nine games in Sunday's three rubbers against Slovenia in Beijing. Na Li defeated Katarina Srebotnik 61 62 in the battle of the number ones, before Jie Zheng completed China's victory with a 63 61 triumph over Andreja Klepac. Olympic champions Ting Li and Tian-Tian Sun extended the winning margin with a 62 60 success over Tina Krizan and Sandra Volk.
Indonesia was the one team to win away from home against Puerto Rico in Salinas. Wynne Praskuya defeated Kristina Brandi 64 62 to record her second singles victory of the weekend, before Romana Tedjakusuma overcame Vilmarie Castellvi 62 62 to clinch Indonesia's place in the 2006 World Group II.
Bulgaria, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Puerto Rico will all now compete in their respective Zone Group I event in 2006.

Indonesia runner up SEABA 2005
Memasuki kuarter kedua, pelatih Rastafari Horongbala mengganti formasi pemain.
Memasuki kuarter ketiga, pelatih Rastafari mengganti kembali komposisi pemain. Ia memasukkan Mario Wuysang, Wendha Wijaya, Riko Hantono, Wellyanson Situmorang, dan Hari Suharsono. Permainan cepat ternyata juga dikembangkan komposisi ini. Para pemain Vietnam kesulitan membendung tembakan-tembakan 3-angka Indonesia. Indonesia unggul 93-43 di akhir kuarter ketiga.
Pada kuarter keempat, timnas menurunkan mayoritas big man seperti I Made Sudiadnyana, Ronny Gunawan, Andre Tiara, Youbel Sondakh, dan Wendha Wijaya.
Field goal Indonesia 59,21% sementara Vietnam 28,77%. Indonesia membuat 12 tembakan 3-pt dari 26 usaha. Indonesia pun hanya membuat 14 turnover sementara Vietnam 20.
Dengan demikian, Indonesia menjadi runner up SEABA ke-6 tahun 2005.

Tony Gunawan and teammate Howard Bach, seeded 13th, beat No. 2 Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto 15-11, 10-15, 15-11.
AP
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach won the United States' first world title in badminton Sunday night at the World Badminton Championships.
The pair, seeded 13th in men's doubles, rallied in the final game for a 15-11, 10-15, 15-11 victory over No. 2 Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto of Indonesia, who were seeking their first world title since 1997.
Also winning world championships were Olympic gold medalist Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in men's singles, China's Xie Xingfang in women's singles and Indonesia's mixed-doubles pair of Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir.
Gunawan and Bach held a 5-1 lead in the third game of their final before Wijaya and Budiarto moved ahead 11-9.
But after the Americans regained service, Gunawan -- who won the 2000 Olympic gold medal with Wijaya for Indonesia -- tied the score with an overhead line drive.
Gunawan scored three points with overhead shots during the rally, which ended when Budiarto hit Bach's overhead smash behind his own back and into the net.
Gunawan earned his second world championship. He teamed with Halim Haryanto to win the 2001 title for Indonesia.
Hidayat, seeded sixth, routed top-seeded Lin Dan of China, 15-3, 15-7. Hidayat built a 13-0 lead in the first game before overcoming a 7-3 deficit in the second game.
In women's singles, second-seeded Xie defeated the defending Olympic and world champion, top-seeded teammate Zhang Ning, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3.
"I congratulate her," Zhang said through a translator. "She's very smart and she never hesitated."
Xie said through a translator that she based her aggressive style on the air conditioning that affected the shuttlecock's flight.
"In the first game, the wind was behind me and I attacked very hard," Xie said. "In the second game, we changed courts and the wind was against me, so Ning had better control. In the third game, I controlled the bird very well."
China has won five of the past six women's singles titles since 1995. The World Badminton Championships have been held every two years.
Widianto and Natsir, seeded fourth, gave Indonesia its first mixed-doubles world championship since 1980 by rallying for a 13-15, 15-8, 15-2 victory over No. 11 Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen from China.

Indonesia's Hidayat routs Lin to capture badminton world title 1 hour, 28 minutes ago
ANAHEIM, United States (AFP) - Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia blitzed world No 1 Lin Dan in straight games to win the world badminton championship men's singles title here.
The 24-year-old Indonesian becomes the first man to hold the Olympic and World titles at the same time.
World No 6 Hidayat set the tone early by winning the first 13 straight points of the match en route to a 15-3, 15-7 victory in 36 minutes at the Arrowhead Pond arena.
"I am very fortunate and grateful," Hidayat said. "All of my targets of winning the prestige tournaments have been achieved.
"Not everybody gets an Olympic as well as a World Championship. This proves I am one of the best in men's singles."
This is the third career victory for Hidayat over Lin and comes just seven weeks after Hidayat beat Lin in the semi-finals of the Singapore Open.
Lin was trying to end the top-seed jinx at the Worlds as only two top seeds have won the men's title since the first Worlds in 1977.
"I had a bad start and nothing more," Lin said. "I will be back next year to win the title again."
Hidayat clinched the title with an arching overhead smash that froze Lin in his tracks.
Hidayat, who said it was his dream to become the first in history to hold both major titles, then dropped to his knees and cupped his face in his hands. He is also the reigning Asian Games champion.
The five-time Indonesian Open winner Hidayat beat Lin at his own game, overpowering the 21 year old from Fujian, China, with an overpowering smash and a selective net attack.
Hidayat defeated South Korea's Shon Seung-Mo 15-8, 15-7 to win the gold medal at the Athens.
He broke through here in his third Worlds. His best previous finish was a semi-final berth in 2001.
The last Worlds were Birmingham in 2003 where Hidayat was eliminated in the round of 16 by China's Bao Chunlai.
Hidayat is considered the bad boy of men's badminton and has been compared to tennis great John McEnroe because of his outbursts on the court. He received one yellow card in Anaheim for throwing his racket but he kept his cool in the final.
It was another surprise loss for Lin, who has held the world number one ranking since March 2004.
He suffered a shock first round-exit in the Athens Olympics to Singapore's Ronald Susilo.
Lin was seeking a double win with his girlfriend Xie Xingfang who captured her first world championship title earlier in the day by beating defending champion Zhang Ning 11-8, 9-11, 11-3.
"I already congratulated my girlfriend Xie when she won the title. I am happy for her," Lin said.

yes I heard...apparently he's only a 'resident' of the US. But then again, these events aren't supposed to represent countries...its not like Thomas Cup or Sudirman Cup...
anyway, good on them. Gunawan did acknoledge Chandra and Christian Hadinata in his victory speech, which was great. And it was nice to Tony Gunawan and Sigit hugging each other right after the match...these things are the closest thing to an Indonesian display of "mateship" and great sportsmanship that I've seen in a while...

Indonesia Raih Dua Gelar, Ukir Tiga Sejarah
Nova/Lilyana memecahkan kebuntuan selama 25 tahun.
Tak lama, Asosiasi Bulu Tangkis AS pun meminta Tony bermain untuk AS dalam rangka membangun badminton di AS.

Badminton: A source of pride but for how long?
Primastuti Handayani, The Jakarta Post/Jakarta
An SMS from a friend on Monday morning reminded me that there was a major event going on in Anaheim, California. The SMS was indeed good news: the Indonesian mixed doubles pair of Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir had won the World Badminton Championship crown, the first for Indonesia in 25 years.
At many offices around the country, meetings had to be delayed and files were left piling up as badminton fans stared at their TV sets to watch the live broadcast.
People shouted "Oohhh.." when men's singles finalist Taufik Hidayat failed to return a smash from China's Lin Dan. But the crowds erupted in joy after the Indonesian won the final in straight sets, people forgetting they were at their workplaces.
Suddenly, everyone turned into commentators, giving their opinions on what men's doubles Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto should do in their encounter with America's Indonesian-born and Indonesian 2001 men's doubles world champion Tony Gunawan (who won in 2001 with Halim Heryanto) and Howard Bach.
The Indonesian pair, unfortunately, ended up bowing out to the Americans.
People's enthusiasm for the games, however, showed that badminton remains among the most popular sports for Indonesians, despite our sportspeople's sliding achievements in international events recently.
While it was great, it was also somewhat surprising to see Indonesians getting three berths in the championships finals; the last time this happened was a decade ago in Lausanne, Switzerland. At that time, Heryanto Arbi won the men's singles crown, Ricky Subagdja and Rexy Mainaky took the men's doubles title and women's doubles Finarsih and Lili Tampi came in as runners-up.
This time around, Taufik becomes the world's first men's singles shuttler to be both an Olympic gold medalist (won last year in Athens) and the world champion. He was the sixth Indonesian shuttler to win the world champion men's singles crown.
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) should be proud of its shuttlers' achievements, particularly after coming under fire for its decision to send only 10 of the 20 players who qualified for the event.
Secretary-general MF Siregar argued at the time: "We are only sending those players with a strong certainty of making the semifinals."
PBSI chairman Sutiyoso said the association needed to be target-oriented, saying that ".. if a player is already certain on paper of being thrashed in the first round, why send them?"
Looking at the list of winners, these Indonesian players should be considered "old hands". Taufik and Nova have been on the team's lists for such major events since 1999 and Candra and Sigit first won the 1997 title. Lilyana, meanwhile, was the only newcomer.
But these victories from veterans, however sweet, mean the PBSI leadership needs some time for introspection. After all, these high caliber players may well not be around in two years' time for the next world championships, or for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
For our winners, their achievements show that they are of a world-class standard and should not be "downgraded" to compete at lower levels, such as in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Manila later this year.
They should concentrate solely on four- and five-star tournaments as well as major international events like the Thomas Cup and Asian Games next year.
Sports organizations, particularly the National Sports Council (KONI), should instead prepare the second-best players for the SEA Games and other regional events.
Such a scheme would push those still at the provincial or national level to work harder so they could compete at national or international tournaments.
Rejuvenation is a key word here -- sports organizations must keep their top athletes' dominant, while improving their up-and-comers' performance in international events.
Coaches also have to improve their knowledge of training and game psychology to help boost their athletes' performance. The PBSI's idea to have a standardized coaching method -- just like the Chinese already have -- should be supported and followed up by other sporting organizations.
Domestic competitions, meanwhile, should be conducted regularly, while talent scouting and recruitment should be an independent process without high-ranking sports officials' interference in a bid to avoid favoritism.
Only with that we will see more young players emerge, more competitions staged and more events broadcast. When this happens, make sure that you switch the TV to "mute" when watching badminton matches and keep your voice low to make your boss happy. Unless, of course, your boss is already watching.
sanhen August 23rd, 2005, 07:44 AM To be honest, Indonesian athlete does not have a bright future. Nationality is important, but I am not blaming an athleete that 'hengkang' overseas, everyone deserve a future.
On a visit to PBSI I can see the government provide many facilities. Onsite teachers. Housing. Cars etc. However, once they leave PBSI, those facilities are gone. What they have left is trophy. How you suppose to make money with trophy? sell it?
Indo athelete is really habis manis sepah dibuang. Remember the first Badminton gold medalist? The last news I heard from my sister, they are selling Bakso at Kelapa gading. Elyas Pical, he become a nightclub bouncer. Come on. They deserve better. I think only a handful are end up become businessman like Icuk.
Our national sport is based too much on corruption and too much nationalism. Let those athletee be free. Let them do commercial. Let them make money. Let them become a nationalist based on honestly and what they truly feels.
XxRyoChanxX August 24th, 2005, 03:34 AM omg..i wanted to go to that badminton game !!! awww... can't believe i miseed it...can somebody please list the winners for each category?? pleaseeeee

Alvin August 24th, 2005, 04:01 PM and the women's events were won by the Chinese. Xie Xingfang for women's singles, and I don't know about the women's doubles.
so that's 2 titles for Indonesia, 2 for China and 1 for USA.
Howard Bach is American, but he is actually Vietnamese origin, born in Saigon and migrated to US when he was young.
Ara August 25th, 2005, 10:51 AM taufik hidayat is very cocky. This is exactly what Badminton needs.

Alvin September 15th, 2005, 12:55 PM Indonesia rewards badminton champions

Gaji Selangit Pesepak Bola Nasional
''Siapa bilang menjadi pemain bola zaman sekarang miskin,'' ujar Iswadi Idris, mantan pemain gelandang nasional di era 1970-an, suatu waktu.

David-80 October 25th, 2005, 09:45 PM Finally, someones want to talk Indonesian football. As i like to write something about them.
Bambang Pamungkas and Elie Aboy actually the stars in Malaysian football, their performance just superbs. Now with Charis (ex persija) Ponaryo (ex PSM) and most probably Boas cs also hired by Malaysian clubs, this mean a step forward and milestone to the development of Indonesian football. As the indonesian footballers are being recognised and luckily, respected with a lot with money.
I personally, want them to play in other professional leagues overseas, because Liga Indonesia is just too corrupt and harsh for them. Many of the players getting red cards on international level because they used to play reckless football. While in Indonesia, that kind of football will only get you a yellow card if not just a warning.
Lets talk more later. LOL
cheers

David-80 October 26th, 2005, 11:58 AM Boas is amazing but hes now battling with his old injury, I hope he gets a well treatment in Perth hospital, as our U23 national team is already in Perth for training centre.
Some news.
Perth Glory (A-league member) held draw by The Indonesian U23 (0-0)
Sorrento FC (Last year WA champion) also held draw by the young indonesian (0-0)
While Perth Azzuri (italian footballers who live in perth) lose by a goal from the U23 Indonesia (0-1)
This afternoon, they will be another match, i am not sure which australian team that they will face. I hope they can win.
Btw, Barcelona FC is seeing their interest to get Saktiawan sinaga, other promising indonesian footballer (who is also in the U23 team for seagames). After his perfomance when Indonesia met Barcelona FC Reserve team, last june in Vietnam
About Liga Indonesia itself, the most expensive player right now in LI is Emmanuel de Porras from Argentina (1 billion rupiah) not including facility. He hired by PSIS semarang, which they got third place in Liga Indonesia 2005.

KOMDIS PSSI SKORS TIGA PEMAIN PERSIPURA SELAMA SETAHUN
This mean, Boas and Jack komboy will lose their place in seagames and olympic qualification...Silly PSSI...they fined those players but other players who are also making mistake by kicking referees head and even throw a bottle of water to the referees are not giving any harsh sanction.
Poor boas and jack komboy.

Malaysia, Indonesia consider exchange program for soccer players
KUALA LUMPUR (AP): Malaysia and Indonesia may launch an exchange program for their soccer players to compete in each other's domestic leagues to boost performance, the Football Association of Malaysia said Tuesday.
Sports officials from both sides have discussed placing several Malaysians on teams playing in Indonesia's home league, and vice versa, for at least one season, said Raja Ahmad Zainuddin, vice president of Malaysia's soccer governing body.
Malaysia might try to expand the program to include Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam if it shows success in helping players broaden their skills and experience, Raja Ahmad was quoted as saying by the national news agency, Bernama.
"We want players who are determined to play at a higher level, such as in the European leagues and in the World Cup," Raja Ahmad said.
Some Indonesian players have performed well in Malaysia, Raja Ahmad said, noting the example of export striker Bambang Pamungkas, who scored 39 goals in his first year with Malaysia's Selangor state team, helping it win this year's Malaysia Cup. (**)
David-80 November 1st, 2005, 06:56 PM The problem is, will any Indonesian clubs take malaysian players for their squads? Indonesian club is very picky regarding foreign players, the only asian players who played in Indonesia league are from thailand (five thais national team players) and japanese player. If Indonesian players are being imported by malaysian clubs, that means our level of football is a notch higher than Malaysia. So its useless to take any malaysian players (who mostly asking for higher salaries but sorry to say, not really a skillfull and professional player).

bahar November 4th, 2005, 11:32 AM RI bridge team into Senior Bowl final in Portugal
JAKARTA (JP): The national contract bridge team mounted a comeback in Thursday's semifinal against Denmark to reach the final of the Senior Bowl in Estoril, Portugal.
The team trailed in the first three sessions and for part of the fourth before recovering for a 168.5-156 international match points victory, Bert Toar Polii from the Indonesian Contract Bridge Association said.
They now meet two-time defending champion USA 1, which thrashed the Netherlands 223-117, in the World Championship event for players aged 57 and over.
"It was a truly amazing performance ... I told the players (by SMS), 'if you stay calm, you can still beat your opponents'," Bert said in an e-mail.
The foursome of Henky Lasut, Eddy Manoppo, Denny Sacul and Munawar Sawiruddin were outstanding in the final two sessions, winning 57-9 and 30-27.
On Monday, Indonesia defeated the host team 320-201 in the last eight.
The final, to be played on Friday, is between the two strongest teams from the qualifying. They drew 15-15 in their qualifying match, before the U.S. team was able to win on a countback of points.
The Indonesian team was runner up at the 1996 BridgeOlympiade, champion in the 2000 IOC Grand Prix and runner-up in the Rosenblum Cup in 2002. The team was fourth in the 2003 Senior Bowl in Monte Carlo.
The USA 1 team consists of Alan Sontag, Peter Weischel, Rose Meltzer and Garey Hayden. Meltzer is the only woman to have won the Bermuda Bowl (2001), bridge's oldest and most important event which is organized concurrently with the Senior Bowl.
"If our team play like they did in the final two sessions against the Danes, they have a very strong chance of taking gold," Bert said. (brc)

Indonesia Kembali Jadi Tuan Rumah Reli Asia Pasifik 2006

David-80 November 17th, 2005, 04:46 PM Big step for our football development, After three of our young players currently played in AJAX amsterdam in a league for juniors players.

Good luck Hamka!

David-80 November 18th, 2005, 10:17 AM Hamka is known as a controversial and emotionally unstable player, he used to reject so many offers from overseas clubs these past 2-3 years. I hope hes really considering this offer, because this will make him a lot better and mature as a back field player.

David-80 November 18th, 2005, 11:48 AM For sure that I know, Hamka is a heavy clubber and a playboy himself, I still remember the reason why persija lose in The Indonesian league final was because Hamka was going for clubbing before the final and so he forgot to manage his fitness ability.

This is not a good news for Indonesia
Indonesia held draw Vietnam Sea games last july 1:1 in Vietnam and the senior team also trashed vietnam 3:0 in Vietnam too. Theoritically, that news is a moral boost for the Indonesian seagames team.
You know why the reason Indonesia lose to singapore at tigercup? the players were exhausted after 265 days long of Indonesian league! In this case, the national players were still in the local competition during the tiger cup. So it was a big achievement for Peter withe when he took Indonesia to the final for 3rd consecutive years considering the players were not in the top condition.

We done well at 1st Half but in 2nd half, we had a poor game. I am not sure why but 30 minutes before finished, Peter decided to change the defenders rather than put more strikers at front. No boas and other productive strikers, means we have no goals. This goaless draw were happened too before. when the team on trial in Australia...so no surprise for me.
We need to win Vietnam on saturday, if we win that game, we got 5 points, on monday we just need to win Laos so we can go to semis....tough job..but impossible is nothing :D

Saktiawan Menangkan Indonesia
Mohammad Yanuar Firdaus - detikSport
Jakarta - Kemenangan akhirnya mampir di kubu Indonesia. Menghadapi pemuncak klasemen grup B Vietnam, tim Merah Putih unggul 1-0 lewat gol tunggal striker Saktiawan Sinaga.
Skor 0-0 pun bertahan hingga babak pertama usai.
Memasuki babak kedua, giliran Vietnam melakukan tekanan. Dua peluang matang langsung tercipta lewat Quoc Anh ketika pertandingan baru berjalan 10 menit.
Hingga lima menit masa injury time diberikan wasit, Vietnam tetap gagal mengejar ketertinggalan satu gol tersebut. (ian)

Pretty good game, the Indonesia national team played very well, I guess, that was the best match I ever seen. Despite the 3 days preparation but the Indo team still can have a draw with SA national team, which mainly are players for the world cup 2010 in South Africa.
Tata, yes tomorrow is Laos for the seagames, I wish the Indo U23 can show good football like their senior.
The chance? last time i check asian sports betting, Indo 75% laos 25%, so we will(should) have to win that game.
I am predicting tomorrow, the coach will go for 4-3-3 all out attack formation.

Alvin December 1st, 2005, 12:18 AM Malaysia Dethrone Indonesia
MANILA, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Wong Choong Hann gave Malaysia the winning point in their 3-2 defeat of defending champions Indonesia in the men's team badminton competition of the 23rd Sea Games held at the Philsports Sports Complex in Pasig City near here.
Choong Hann gave a stunning performance to brush aside Indonesian youngster Simon Santoso in straight sets 15-9, 15-7 for a hard fought Malaysian victory.
Credit must also be given to Muhammad Hafiz Hashim for keeping Malaysia in the fight after first singles player, Lee Chong Wei and the crack doubles pair of Chan Chong Meng-Koo Kien Keat lost to their opponents.
Hafiz, the former All England champion, kept the nation's hopes alive after beating Sony Dwi Kuncoro 15-11, 15-4 to reduce the deficit to 1-2.
The Malaysian's had been under intense pressure after Chong Wei lost to Taufik Hidayat 13-15, 7-15 and Chong Meng-Kien Keat failed to dislodge Indonesia's lead doubles pair of Luluk Hadiyanto-Alvent Yulianto Chandran, going down 4-15, 9-15.
Muhammad Hafiz'victory spurred the team on and were richly rewarded when the second doubles pair of Choong Tan Fook-Lee Wan Wah evened the score, beating Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan 15-12, 15-8.
The veteran Choong Hann settled the cliffhanger set to give Malaysia the team gold which was last won at the 2001 Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur.
Nationla chief coach, Yap Kim Hock said the boys showed the stuff they were made off by not giving up when it mattered most.
"This is a good sign for Malaysian badminton and for our preparations to re-capture the Thomas Cup next year. I am very proud of them," he said.
Thailand and Vietnam shared the bronze after losing in the semifinals yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian and Indonesian women's teams also had to share the bronze after losing in the semifinals. Thailand took home the women's team gold after edging out Singapore 3-2 in the final also held in the same venue tonight.

Indonesia 1-3 Thailand
Beberapa kali aksi Winothai mampu mengancam gawang Samsidar. Sementara serangan yang dibangun Mahyadi Pangabean cs mampu dibaca pemain bertahan Thailand.
Di akhir babak kedua Thailand mampu menggandakan keunggulan. Ekephan Inthasen merobek gawang Indonesia dengan tandukan kepalanya memanfaatkan umpan lambung dari Suchao Nutnum.
Di babak kedua duet Mahyadi dan Saktiawan Sinaga masih kesulitan menembus lini belakang Thailand. Gol ketiga justru datang ke gawang Indonesia. Memasuki menit 56 Lagi-lagi Winothai memberi Indonesia mimpi buruk.
Namun hingga pertandingan berakhir tak satupun gol tambahan tercipta.

Indonesia dipastikan meraih medali emas nomor tunggal putri cabang tenis SEA Games XXIII Filipina.
(erk)

Indonesian leader urges overhaul after poor SEA Games showing
JAKARTA (AFP): President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered the country's sports committee to look into why the once regional sporting powerhouse did so poorly in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, his spokesman said Tuesday.
The 23rd SEA Games hosted by the Philippines ended Monday with Indonesia finishing a lowly fifth out of the 11 competing nations with 48 gold, 77 silver and 89 bronze medals.
It was the worst showing for Indonesia, the nine-time overall champion of the Games, since the world's fourth most populous country began contesting the biennial sporting event in 1977.
President Susilo was unhappy with the country's performance in Manila, his spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said.
"The President asked the sports ministry and the national sports committee to carry out an evaluation, restructuring and revitalization and explain to the public why this thing has happened," Mallarangeng told AFP.
"Being in fifth position ... is very disappointing," he said, adding that it was particularly devastating that Indonesia fared poorly in pencak silat, a martial art which originated in thearchipelago. (**)

ndonesian rugby flag flies the flag in international debut
Geoffrey Atkinson, The Jakarta Post/Jakarta
Indonesia is set to be awarded full membership in the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) following a historic silver-medal performance in the exhibition games played in conjunction with the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Manila last weekend.
It was the first time a full national team has represented Indonesia, and also the first full international to be played on Philippine soil.
"This is a great honor and a giant step forward for Indonesian rugby," said Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) president Andrew Nugroho on his return from the seven-a-side tournament in Manila. "It reflects the hard work of the committee and the dedication of our Indonesian players whose efforts on the field have made all this possible. We are extremely proud of them."
Indonesia's ARFU status will be ratified at the All-Asian body's annual meeting in Lahore, Pakistan, next week and comes less than two years after Indonesian Development Rugby (IDR) was formed in Jakarta. The Lahore meeting will be attended by IDR secretary Bill Ryan.
The Philippine exhibition tournament -- which brought together 12 teams from around the region -- is expected to see rugby football receive official SEA Games status before 2007 in Thailand.
"We are hopeful as a full national team that we will be in the medal running," Andrew said.
Only Indonesia and the Philippines managed to field full national sides last weekend. Both Singapore and Macau had entered national teams, but where made up predominantly by expatriate players. The tournament was won by Borneo who fielded six, full-time rugby professionals from Fiji in the finals. They beat the Singapore Barbarians 50-5.
In the national final the Philippines beat Indonesia 27-5. The 16-man Indonesian squad had players from West Irian, Jakarta, Kalimantan and North Maluku. All players received field time in the five matches played on the weekend.
"Bringing together players from all over Indonesia is our major challenge," said Andrew. "We are trying to establish regional competitions in as many provinces as possible and concentrate on rugby at school and junior levels."
All of this will take funding and manpower.
"Indonesia has a mighty rugby nursery -- the trick for us will be establishing teams, providing coaching and facilities all over the nation and then gathering them together under one umbrella for national matches," Andrew said.
"The vast distances and costs of air travel and accommodation mean we have a lot to work on." Indonesian rugby is an amateur organization run by a committee that donates its time for free.
They are sponsored by multinational construction company Thiess and the Kabelvision cable network.
With acceptance to the ARFU, Indonesia is expected to form the Indonesia Rugby Football Union (IRFU) now operating under the IDR banner. The IDR will continue to assist with development of national players and juniors, but the IRFU will take over full responsibility for the running of the game in Indonesia.
"We are now in a league of nations where rugby is largely administered and coached by full-time professionals from around the globe," Andrew said. "We are hoping businesses and individuals in Indonesia will be part of our growing support base. It'ss a big challenge but it's a challenge we are looking forward to."
Indonesia's next major international is expected to be at the 2006 Asia Rugby Championships in Sri Lanka

tata January 6th, 2006, 07:27 PM Refunds, exchange offered for A1 tickets
Moch. N. Kurniawan, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
Organizers of the A1 Grand Prix have promised that ticketholders will be fully accommodated after the race, originally scheduled for Jan. 15, was postponed on Thursday.
A1 Indonesia vice president Basuki Widjadja Kusuma said on Thursday ticketholders could obtain refunds from their ticket agent, or exchange them for new ones valid for the rescheduled race on Feb. 12 at Sentul Circuit in West Java.
"We, through the ticket agents, will refund the tickets of those who might not have the time to watch the A1 GP in February," Basuki told The Jakarta Post. "But we will provide new tickets to those who still wish to watch the race."
Designated ticket agents are Aquarius Mahakam, Aquarius Pondok Indah (South Jakarta), Ibu Dibyo Ticket Box in Cikini (Central Jakarta),www.detik.com and www.rajakarcis.com.
Separately, Basuki told Antara news service that about 40 percent of the 50,000 grandstand tickets -- priced at Rp 200,000 (US$20) each -- had been sold.
The race, the seventh of the new motor racing series, was postponed due to the death on Wednesday of Dubai ruler Sheik Maktoum bin Rashed al-Maktoum, who was the uncle of the series' founder, Sheik Maktoum bin Hasher bin Maktoum Al Maktoum.
"While difficult logistically, we felt it important to observe a respectable period of mourning for this beloved family member of our founder, president and chairman, Sheikh Maktoum," A1 CEO Tony Texeira said in a statement on the series' official website.
Basuki said the postponement would allow for better preparation for the event, including attracting more sponsors. The rescheduled dates were originally set for the Brazilian race, which was canceled after the circuit was deemed unsuitable.
Race drivers who have already arrived in Jakarta are expected to leave for South Africa, where the next race is scheduled in Durban on Jan. 29.
A1 Grand Prix, founded in September 2005 and also known as the World Cup of Motorsport, is unique in the field of motorsport in that drivers complete for their nation instead of a private team or constructor.

FIA: Sentul Layak Gelar A1, Belum F-1
Pembaruan/Surya Lesmana - Roland Bruynseraede
Basuki memperkirakan kerugian atas batal digelarnya A1 GP Sentul pada 15 Januari mencapai US$ 3 juta.
Blue_Sky February 7th, 2006, 08:00 AM Tim Davis Cup Indonesia Tiba di Balikpapan
http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/134/07022006tenis22wy.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Britain's Robbie Kerr ahead at Sunday A1 Grand Prix
JAKARTA (AP): Britain's Robbie Kerr took pole position for Sunday's sprint race of the 8th round of the A1 Grand Prix of nation's.
Kerr finished with an aggregate time of two minutes, 34.257 seconds Saturday to edge out Nicolas Lapierre of France with 2.34.477 at the four-kilometer (2.5-miles) Sentul race track on the outskirts of Jakarta. Mexico's Salvador Duran was third with 2:34.554 after the four races.
"I started on old tyros to learn a bit more about the circuit, and then we had two new sets of tyros for the rest of qualifying which was fantastic," Kerr said. "We made a slight change for the third session which was fantastic and again for the fourth session, even though it was damp."
Lapierre, who won the German, Australian and United Arab Emirates GPs, made a rare mistake in his first qualifying session spinning off into the gravel.
"It was not my best lap ever," he said. "I could have easily have hit the wall but some days are good and today I managed to miss it. So from then I needed to put in a few safe laps. "A total of 23 countries are taking part in the A1 GP.
The A1 GP qualifying format includes four 15-minute sessions, divided by 10-minute breaks. Drivers are limited to three laps per session. The driver's aggregate time determines their starting position on the grid.
Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono welcomed the A1 participants on Friday night and, according to the A1 web site, performed "Imagine" a song by John Lennon. (**)

http://www.bolanews.com/edisi-cetak/7bnas.jpg
Irvin, membuka jalan buat pemain lain.
(jam)

Mahaputra February 21st, 2006, 03:50 AM The people of Lyon were able to watch this international display of extremely high level football for the first time this year. Invited by the Olympique Lyonnais, the Danone Nations Cup final kicked-off in the number 1 French clubs’ legendary grounds. It was a brilliant final which upheld the spirit of sportsmanship, dedication and team-work.
The Danone Nations Cup is the top event in the world of international football for the 10-12 age group. The final is endorsed by FIFA and the Fédération Française de Foot (French Football Federation) and sponsored by Zinedine Zidane.
Although unable to join the players in Lyon, kept busy preparing for France’s important match against Ireland in a few days, Zidane sent a message to the young players. He underlined the sport, pleasure and fair-play that must always be kept at the very heart of football.
However, another sponsor Bixente Lizarazou ; Franck Riboud, the CEO Groupe Danone ; Jean Michel Aulas, the President of Olympique Lyonnais ; Mr Collomb, Mayor of Lyon ; Bernard Barbet, President of the league representing Mr Escalettes, President of the FFF; Gérard Houiller and his new recruits Fred et Tiago were all watching. They were all especially impressed by the quality of football produced by the two passionate finalists: South Africa and Russia.
The football that the French military parachute squad delivered from above brought the Russians luck. They clinched the final in the penalty shoot-outs as the crowd held their breath. One of the Russian team said “it was luck that tipped the balance” in their favour! During the whole half hour of play, we saw an amazing level of involvement and strength from both sides. The Russians were able to counteract the South African team’s extremely strong tactical game by applying relentless pressure when their opponents had posession, and keeping powerful control of their own shots.
Overall, this year we saw even higher quality football, and much more closely fought matches with spectacular goals and extremely complex tactical play, considering the players’ ages.
2005’s great discovery was without doubt Indonesia- earning the « Best Attack » of the competition with 24 goals (a new record for the Danone Nations Cup), and the number 10 team player were also awarded the trophy for the « Best Goal Scorer ».
Hungary deserve a special mention for, depite their ranking, keeping smiling throughout the whole competition and who were in fact the youngest team this year. All the hungarian players were 10 years old although the players had to be aged between 10 and 12.
Mahaputra February 21st, 2006, 03:50 AM this is an awesome feat for Indonesia generally and Indonesian football especially..

Timnas U-23 Berlatih di Ajax Amsterdam
( Rabu, 15/02/2006 19:37 )

David-80 February 24th, 2006, 07:35 PM Oh man..Why PSSI is so stupid! i blame PSSI for this fiasco...i feel sorry for Arema and Persipura :bash:
RI's Arema, Persipura booted from AFC Champions League
SINGAPORE (AFP): The AFC Champions League was thrown into disarray Friday with two clubs from Indonesia and two from Thailand barred from the competition for failing to submit their paperwork on time.
The severe punishment was dished out to Indonesia's Arema Malang and Persipura Jayapura and Thai clubs -- Provincial Electricity Authority and Thailand Tobacco Monopoly.
Two clubs -- Al Hilal from Yemen and Dhofar from Oman -- were also turned out of the AFC Cup, a tournament for teams from Asias "emerging" football associations, for the same reason.
They will have no right of appeal after failing to fill in their player registration forms by the February 12 deadline.
"It is essential that clubs comply with the regulations that govern AFC competitions, and failing to meet a registration deadline represents a serious breach of these regulations," AFC president Mohammed bin Hammam said in a statement.
"The AFC Champions League is Asias premier club competition and we simply cannot have clubs in this flagship event who show such disregard for the regulations.
"Clubs who pay little attention to such basic administrative matters have no place in the continents premier club competition."
The tournament for the league and cup champions of the top 14 national associations in the AFC gets underway on March 8 and will retain its format despite the disqualification of the clubs.
It means two groups will contain just two teams each, with the top one going through to the quarter-finals.
Now only Tokyo Verdy of Japan and Ulsan Horang-I of South Korea are left in Group F, while Shanghai Shenhua of China and Dong Tam Long An of Vietnam will be fighting for the group honors in Group G.
Saudi giants Al Ittihad are the defending champions.
An AFC spokeswoman said the regulations made clear that there could be no right of appeal, and said a less severe punishment was not considered as the clubs had already been granted an extension to complete the forms.
"We showed some flexibility, and we had no choice but to disqualify them. We need to enforce the credibility of the competition," she said.
Bin Hammam is on a drive to improve professionalism in Asian football and warned clubs and leagues this week that they must improve, or football in the region would be going nowhere.
In his statement, he said the decision to disqualify the clubs should serve as a lesson that amateurism would not be tolerated.
"Clubs throughout Asia have made great strides to improve their administrative practices and we can only hope that this decision serves as a lesson to show that the AFC will not tolerate such lapses in the future," he said.
The AFC also announced that it is setting up a committee charged with making recommendations on how best to improve club football in Asia and to propose a revised structure of the Champions League. (**)

Chris John retains WBA title
Indonesia's Chris John retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion belt in a 12-round mandatory title bout against Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico in Tenggarong, East Kalimantan, late Saturday.
Chris won by unanimous decision, spoiling Marquez's bid to claim the title.
Judge Oscar Perez of the United States awarded 116-110 points in favor of Chris, Takeshi Shimakawa of Japan gave 117-111, and Piniij Prayadsub of Thailand gave 116-112.
"It was a tough match. I thank God that I was able to win," the 26-year-old champ said. "I thank for the public's support for me."
With a combination of jabs and uppercuts, Marquez dominated the last four rounds as Chris's stamina started to drop visibly.
"I kept listening to what my coach Bob (Vidanovski) said... I had to maintain distance to avoid Marquez's combination of punches," said Chris, who received US$90,000 for the fight.
Referee Guillermo Perez Pineda of Panama deducted two points from Marquez in the ninth and 11th rounds for low hits.
The victory extended the Indonesian's undefeated winning streak of 37 wins, 20 of them KOs, and one draw.
Last April, Chris retained his featherweight title by unanimous decision over American Derrick Gainer. He also defeated little-known Tommy Brown in Sydney in August 2005. -- JP

SINGAPORE (AFP): Bali will play host to a European Tour golf event for the first time when the Indonesian Open moves to the resort island in 2008, organisers announced.
The tournament will be held at the newly built New Kuta Golf complex, which is part of the island's drive to rejuvenate a tourism industry hit by a series of bombings.
"When we started to build this facility, it was our ambition to host a world-class tournament," said GolfLink Resorts president Suprapto Pegeng.
"And you can't get much better than an event co-sanctioned by both the European and Asian Tours."
This year's Indonesian Open was held last week at Emeralda Golf Club in Jakarta with England's Simon Dyson lifting the trophy. (**)

INDONESIA is facing a new dilemma in finding top class singles shuttlers as the younger generation are more interested in becoming movie stars.
This may sound unusual, especially when it is a badminton-crazy nation, but Indonesia's Thomas Cup squad assistant team manager Lius Pongoh said this is indeed true and quite a predicament.
Lius, a top class shuttler in the 1980s, said they have only four quality singles players in Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Simon Santoso and Markus Wijanu and nothing to choose from the back-up team if any of the seniors is injured.
"The youth in Indonesia just want to be movie stars and become 'Indonesian Idol' winners. We are losing out on talent," said Lius at the Johor Baru City Stadium yesterday.
"The singles department is the hardest hit as our back-up is very weak.
It is so hard to search for talent as our youngsters are crazy about being actors and are more interested in going into the entertainment field.
"There is good depth in the men's doubles but our women's team is also in bad shape.
"If any of our men singles players are injured, our target of reaching the Thomas Cup final in Japan will be badly hit." Taufik, the Olympic and world champion, suffered a back injury several days ago but Lius hopes he will recover to lead Indonesia to the (Thomas Cup) finals. Indonesia were eliminated in the quarter-finals in Jakarta two years ago.
Indonesia's doubles line-up is almost confirmed with World No 2 Candra Wijaya-Sigit Budiarto, Luluk Hadiyanto-Alven Yulianto and Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan. Indonesia will meet Malaysia in the quarter-finals if they finish second to South Korea in the group stage and will cross swords with China in the semi-finals if they top the preliminary round. Taufik has been the sole flag-bearer for Indonesia the past few years but injuries could force him to retire well before the 2008 Beijing Olympics and this leaves Sony as the only genuine contender for titles.
And with the entertainment industry proving to be a major lure, Indonesia could find itself in the backwaters if the situation isn't arrested.

Doni Tata [Pembaruan/Surya Lesmana]
[JAKARTA] "From zero to Hero" Dari bukan siapa-siapa menjadi pahlawan.
paradyto April 16th, 2006, 01:45 AM Taufik, Wynne picked best athletes of the year
Moch. N. Kurniawan, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
World men's singles badminton champion Taufik Hidayat and comeback tennis queen Wynne Prakusya swept the major honors Friday in the glittering inaugural national sports award presentation.
Taufik, 24, accepted the evening's final award of best male athlete with a message for Indonesia's campaign in the Thomas Cup men's team competition, to be held in Japan from April 29 to May 7.
"I ask for the support of the Indonesian people as the national team will head to Tokyo on April 28 for the Thomas Cup. We are all hoping that we can win back the Thomas Cup," Taufik said of the competition, last won by Indonesia in 2002.
The 2004 Olympic and 2005 world champion was chosen over fellow nominees Bambang Pamungkas (soccer), Husein Abdullah (table tennis), Sutrisno (powerlifting) and Umar Syarief (karate).
"Thank God for this award. I had not expected to win the award, which has been organized for the first time by KONI (National Sports Council)," said the 24 year old, who recently married Ami Gumelar, the daughter of KONI chairman Agum Gumelar.
"I'm proud about this appreciation of me. It shows that people still support me. I thank PBSI (the National Badminton Association) which has pushed me to the top. I thank my family and the people of Indonesia."
Wynne, who returned from a long injury layoff to win three golds at last December's Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines, beat out markswoman Bary Agustini Said, runner Olivia Sadi, archer Rina Dewi Puspitasari, cyclist Santia Tri Kusuma and rower Sarce Aronggear for best female athletes.
Wynne, who will miss next week's Fed Cup tie against China due to a recurrence of injury, and Taufik each received Rp 25 million (US$2,781.6).
"These days have been great for me. Hopefully, this will inspire me further to creating good achievement in the future," said the 24-year-old from Surakarta, who received the best female athlete award from Bola sports tabloid last week.
The seven-member jury was journalists Ian Situmorang, Atal S. Depari, university practitioner Imam Suyudi, Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry staff Hari Setiono, as well as former athletes Zoraya Perucha and Loekman Niode from swimming, and tennis great Yayuk Basuki.
World boxing champion Chris John was chosen favorite athlete, based on SMS polling. It was his second award in a week after receiving Bola's top male athlete honor.
"This shows that people still support me. This will motivate me to do ever better," the 26-year-old said. -----------------------Other awards

In the women's Uber Cup, Hong Kong edged out England 3-2 in Group X. Germany beat Singapore by the same score in Group Y.
Taiwan overpowered the U.S. 5-0 in Group W while New Zealand also blanked South Africa in Group Z.
Both China's men's and women's teams -- winners of both competitions two years ago -- had a day off on the second day.

Simon does the job Youngster clinches winner for Indonesia
SIMON Santoso rose to the occasion to deliver the winning point for Indonesia in the decisive third singles match of their final Group B Thomas Cup Finals tie against South Korea at the Sendai Gymnasium yesterday.
The young Simon, who is ranked 28th in the world, punched his fists after scoring a 21-18, 21-16 victory over the higher ranked Park Sung-hyun.
The 3-2 victory for Indonesia gave them the top spot in the group and they will go into the same half of the draw as defending champions and top seeds China.
South Korea will have to earn a quarter-final meeting with Malaysia in a playoff against Germany today.
“I have made amends for the failure in Jakarta two years ago,” said the 20-year-old Simon, who failed to win the decisive third singles match in the semi-finals against Denmark in 2004.
“I have proved my worth. From now, I want to keep on winning for Indonesia.”
Yesterday, Indonesia recovered from the brink of defeat after their number one singles players Taufik Hidayat and the top ranked pair of Candra Wijaya-Sigit Budiarto lost the first two matches.
Taufik was beaten 21-16, 10-21, 8-21 by Lee Hyun-il and Candra-Sigit fell to a 16-21, 14-21 defeat by the scratch combination of Jung Jae-sung-Lee Yong-dae.
Sony Dwi Kuncoro rescued the tie for Indonesia, beating 2004 Athens Olympics silver medallist and world number 13 Shon Seung-mo 21-9, 21-15.
“I did not feel the burden at all. I told myself to believe in my ability and that lifted my spirits to go hard against Seung-mo. Today, I was more aggressive and reacted faster,” said Sony, who is ranked 20th in the world.
The second-ranked Indonesia pair of Luluk Hadiyanto-Alven Yulianto levelled the tie, beating Hwang Ji-man-Han Sang Hoon 22-24, 21-17, 21-14.
Both pairs produced a nail-biting first game before the Koreans edged Luluk-Alven. But the Indonesians came back strongly to win the next two games.
“We were too eager to win the first game and lost control of the proceedings.
“We managed to read the placing shots at the front court by the Koreans in the second and third games,” said Alven.
It was left to Simon to seal the tie for Indonesia and he duly delivered.
Indonesia are expected to have a stroll into the semi-finals. In Wednesday’s quarter-finals, they will face the winners of today's playoff tie between Japan and the United States.
Zorobabel May 4th, 2006, 05:33 AM Badminton: Japan ousted by powerhouse Indonesia in Thomas Cup
(Kyodo) _ Japan saw its hopes of reaching the quarterfinals for the first time in 27 years dashed Wednesday after a 3-1 defeat at the hands of 13-time winner Indonesia in the Thomas Cup men's team championship.
Japan got off to a bright start when Shoji Sato upset reigning Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat 20-22, 21-16, 24-22 in a thrilling singles match that lasted one hour, nine minutes in front of a sellout crowd of about 10,000 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
But Japan's battle ended there as the host lost the following three matches -- all in straight sets.
Indonesia drew even after Luluk Hadiyanto and Yulianto Alven beat Keita Masuda and Tadashi Otsuka 21-13, 21-16 and went ahead 2-1 with Soni Dwi Kuncoro's 22-20, 21-7 win over Sho Sasaki.
Markis Kidho and Hendra Setiawan then sealed victory for the Indonesians by defeating Shintaro Ikeda and Shuichi Sakamoto 21-15, 21-18.

Alvin May 5th, 2006, 03:11 PM China blanks Indonesia in semi-finals of Thomas Cup badminton
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-05 16:16:35
TOKYO, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Five-time title holder and defending champion China overwhelmed 13-time champion Indonesia 3-0 here Friday, sailing into the grand finale of the 2006 Thomas Cup badminton championship.
"I am quite satisfied with my players' performance today," said delighted Chinese head coach Li Yongbo, "If they continue such form in the finals like today, I am sure we can defend the title."
In-form Lin Dan, now ranked first in the world, unexpectedly eased past Olympic and world champion Taufik Hidayat with a score of 21-16 and 21-8 in 42 minutes. Lin's win leveled the record at 3-3 all between the world top two shuttlers.
This point was seen as the key to the whole match and it turned out to be the truth.
"I am very happy to take the important point for my team," said Lin Dan, adding that he would do his best in the following finals on Sunday against the winner between Denmark and Malaysia in the evening.
In the following thrilling first doubles, China's Cai Yun and Fu Haifeng, world number three pair, ousted Luluk Hadiyanto and Yulianto Alven 24-22 and 21-17 after they changed leading position time from time.
The third point of China was from Bao Chunlai. When 16-16 in the first game, the tall Chinese took four points in a row mainly on his cross-smashes and finished the game at 21-17 over Soni Dwi Kuncoro, world number 20.
But in the second, Soni led all the way to 16-9 and 20-19. At the crucial time, the Chinese saved three game points before he won the game and match at 24-22.
The victory added Bao's winning streak against Soni 5-0 in their past meetings.
"Lin Dan was in top form while Taufik not. That's why we lost the match against China," said Lius Pongoh, team manager of Indonesia.
It takes 12 years for China to win back the Thomas Cup trophy two years ago in Jakarta, beating Denmark 3-1 in the finals. Enditem

Rachman KOs Mexican, stays world champion
The Jakarta Post, Jakarta
Indonesia's M. Rachman had boasted that he would KO challenger Omar Sato of Mexico in Saturday's mandatory bout. He did.
Fighting before the home crowd at the Bung Karno Indoor Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta, Rachman knocked out Soto with a combination of straights to Soto's right jaw in the sixth round.
With the victory, he retains his world champion title in the International Boxing Federation mini flyweight division (47.6 kilograms).
"My strategy was to make him launch attacks in the early rounds," said the 33-year-old fighter. "In the fifth round, I knew I had to attack more to win.
"I felt his punches were powerless."
Rachman admitted that the 26-year-old Mexican's uppercut hit his face in the fourth round.
"I knew I got hit but didn't feel anything," said Rachman, who was coached by Terry Joe.
The minute Soto bowed down on the ring, Rachman supporters stormed and lifted him while guests -- including State Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Adhyaksa Dault and the National Sports Council former chairman Wismoyo Arismunandar -- gave their applause to welcome the win.
Rachman, dubbed the Rock Breaker, becomes the second Indonesian world champion in the division after Nico Thomas in 1989. He won the belt after defeating Daniel Reyes in Jakarta on Sept. 14, 2004.
He had only defended his title in a choice match on April 5, 2005, against Fahlan Sakkreerin of Thailand in his hometown Merauke, Papua.
Rachman pocketed US$20,000 from the fight while Soto earned $10,000.
The sports tabloid Bola reported Rachman would ink a $75,000 deal to retain his title in the United States. But if an Indonesian promoter could take over the slated bout, he may defend his title at home.
Promoter M. Arsyad, who staged Saturday's mandatory bout free of charge for the public, had said earlier that he would eye WBO mini flyweight champion Ivan Calderon of Puerto Rico as the next contender.
Alvin June 5th, 2006, 07:16 AM Taufik wins sixth Indonesian Open crown
Indra Harsaputra,The Jakarta Post, Surabaya
National number one men's singles player Taufik Hidayat resumed his charmed run in the US$250,000 Djarum Indonesian Open badminton championships by defeating higher-ranked Bao Chunlai of China in Sunday's final.
It was his sixth title in the event, following victories in 1999, 2000 and 2002-2004, and tied the record for most championships with Ardy B. Wiranata from the 1990s. He won $20,000.
Taufik, now world-ranked 14, was made to fight in a tight 21-16, 21-19 victory against his 6th ranked and 3rd seeded opponent, who also held a 3-1 head-to-head edge over him coming in to the final.
The win at Kertajaya Sports Hall also ended a long title drought for the 25-year-old from Bandung.
"I'm glad I was able to win the tournament here. It's been eight months and I haven't won anything," said the 2004 Olympic champion, whose last victory was the world championship title in Anaheim, the United States, last August.
"I present this win to my coach and my family," he said of coach Mulyo Handoyo, who resigned from the national training center after Indonesia's disappointing showing in last month's Thomas Cup men's team event.
Bao complained that he lost concentration at the crucial 19-19 point in the see-saw second game after he thought Taufik's shot landed out.
"I had a chance to beat him but my focus was disturbed by the umpire's call," he said. "I will beat him next time. I'll be waiting for him in the Singapore Open (next week)."
The scratch pairing of Candra Wijaya and Indonesian-born Tony Gunawan, who now plays for the United States, upset the much younger defending champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan 21-17, 21-16.
"The defense of Kido and Setiawan was awful. We will evaluate this," said the national team's men's doubles coach Christian Hadinata.
Candra, 30, who withdrew from the national training center last month, was surprised by the ease of the win with his partner from the late 1990s, who turned 31 last month.
"We didn't have any special preparation for the tournament. We haven't teamed up for five years. Tony rarely practices now due to his job at an electronics company over there," Candra said.
"This victory is for my daughter's birthday."
The host contingent's hopes of winning another title were dashed when defending mixed doubles champions and top seeded Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir bowed out 19-21, 15-21 to China's Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen.
"It was a tough match. The Chinese were difficult to figure out. They played very well and solidly," said Nova, who won the 2005 world title with Lilyana.
Badminton Association of Indonesia chairman Sutiyoso immediately said that he would evaluate the players' performance.
"The results were below our target of three titles."
Chinese shuttlers collected two more titles in the women's singles and doubles in all-Chinese finals.
Unseeded Zhu Lin defeated Lu Luan 21-11, 21-16 for the singles crown, while Wei Yili and Zhang Yawen subdued Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen 21-13, 21-13.

Another Ring Death in Indonesia
Recommend this page Printable version
By Ronnie Nathanielsz
Another young Indonesian boxer has died after collapsing in the ring during the sixth and final round of a bout at the RW Monginsidi Hall B in Manado, the provincial capital of North Sulawesi, last Monday.
According to the Box Rec website 22 year old flyweight Fadly Kasim was making only his second ring appearance against Jibril Soamole although there was another report that claimed it was his ring debut. Kasim was rushed to the Prof. Kandou Hospital but died soon after. Kasim was the 25th fighter to die in Indonesian boxing history and the eleventh since 2000 .
Boxing writer Jeffrey Pamungkas reported that Kasim’s trainer Andy Koliangan had asked his fighter to quit in round three but he refused and continued to fight. Kasim apparently took a bad beating in the fifth round and collapsed forcing referee Edward Rompas to call a halt.
WBC president Jose Sulaiman imposed a six month ban on Indonesia following a total of five ring deaths in 2000 and 2001 amidst charges that promoters were negligent in following necessary medical guidelines. Sulaiman said that in his opinion Indonesian boxers had died because they had “not been medically examined prior to the bouts and/or the referees let them punch each other to death without stopping fights when a boxer is seriously injured.” Sulaiman also claimed some promoters had programmed one-sided fights with supervision and approval from the Indonesian boxing commission.
The head of the Philippine Games and Amusements Board and concurrent chief of the Boxing Division Dr.. Nasser Cruz had earlier disclosed that the WBC was set to introduce regulations that would require fighters to undergo tests for the level of APOE4, a kind of protein in the brain which hampers recovery from brain surgery and cerebral hemorraghe while also increasing the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease.
A report from Jakarta at that time said medical experts suspected that at least 75 percent of Indonesian boxers have a very high content of Apolipoprotein E-4 . The report said medical experts believe fighters with a high incidence of APOE4 must be forced into retirement.

Jakarta to host final of Asian Cup
From correspondnet in Hong Kong
August 04, 2006 JAKARTA today won the right to host the final of next year's Asian Cup, beating off competition from Bangkok, Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur.
Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia are jointly hosting Asia's premier football tournament, with Bangkok selected for the opening ceremony and opening game on July 7.
The two semi-finals will take place in Hanoi and Kuala Lumpur with the final in the Indonesian capital on July 29.
"Our decision reflects the strengths and the wishes of the respective national associations," AFC president Mohamed bin Hammam said.
"This includes infrastructure, the addressing of security measures, the commitment to promote the event, and the protection of commercial rights."
The Asian Cup has never before been hosted by four countries and bin Hammam earlier this year admitted to AFP he was concerned about costs and logisitical problems.
"It is proving very difficult for us. We have to have four organising committees, four media centres and there are also financial considerations," he said in January.
"It was my mistake. If we had a choice we definitely wouldn't do it again."
The AFC had announced in 2003 that the 2007 competition would be held in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region after adopting a rotation policy for hosting the Cup, similar to world football's governing body FIFA.
It will be the first time that ASEAN has held the competition since 1984, when Singapore was host.
Sixteen teams will compete for the Cup with qualification rounds already under way. The teams are divided into six groups of four with the top two from each progressing to the finals.
The next round of qualifying takes place on August 16 but without Lebanon, which pulled out of the competition this week blaming Israel's "barbaric attack" on the country.
Japan, which has won the Asian Cup three times, is defending champion having beaten China 3-1 in a bad-tempered final in Beijing in 2004.
Australia is competing for the first time after its switch from Oceania to the AFC.
Following their second-round heroics at the World Cup in Germany, the Socceroos go into this month's qualifying round as Asia's highest-ranked team in the world at 33.
Japan has slumped to 49 and South Korea to 56.
The Asian Cup was first played in 1956.

UMURNYA baru 13 tahun. Dia tidak terlalu tinggi, kira-kira 160-an centi meter. Namanya Irvin Museng.
Prestasi Irvin memang membanggakan.
Voll, warga negara Belanda berdarah Toraja berhasil meyakinkan petinggi Ajax tentang bakat terpendam Irvin.
Ruud kemudian mengantar Direktur Akademi Sepak Bola Ajax, John van Den Bom, ke Makassar. Ditemani seorang notaris asal Belanda, Mr Berry Bertels, John sempat menyaksikan permainan Irvin dan rekan-rekannya di Makassar, Februari lalu.
John langsung meminta Irvin mengikuti seleksi pemain muda berbakat di Ajax, 4 Maret lalu. Hasilnya, Irvin berhasil lolos.
Irfan Bachdim, misalnya. Dia pernah merasakan didikan tangan-tangan dingin pelatih Ajax Amsterdam pada 1999. Putra pasangan Noval Bachdim dan Hester van Dijic ini bahkan pernah menjadi top scorer kompetisi amatir U-15 Belanda tahun 2002.
Belakangan, setelah perkembangannya dinilai stagnan, Irfan kemudian bergabung dengan klub amatir Argon. Kini, rekan seangkatan pemain Ajax, Ryan Babbel itu membela klub Divisi I Belanda, FC Utrecht.
Kebetulan Irvin pulang, sekarang sedang kami urus," jelas Henky Museng, ayah kandung Irvin.
(RASID AL FARIZI, Makassar*)

Alvin October 29th, 2006, 12:26 AM China, Indonesia share 5 titles at badminton World Cup
www.chinaview.cn 2006-10-28 20:49:53
BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shuttlers grabbed three out of five titles at the IBF World Cup on Saturday as another powerhouse Indonesia took the remaining two of the 250,000 US dollars tournament.
China has already secured the three titles before Saturday's finals as they were all-Chinese clashes.
World number one Lin Dan took the men's singles after beating Chen Yu 2-1, Wang Yihan upset Xie Xingfang 2-0 for the second time within two weeks to secure the first title in career in the women's singles, and women's doubles crown went to Gao Ling/Huang Sui following a 2-0 victory over Yang Wei/Zhang Jiewen.
Two-time world champion and defending champion Xie started strongly at the beginning of the first game for a 5-0 lead. But Wang, a promising maid in China's national youth team, minimized unnecessary errors to level it at 7-7.
18-year-old Wang, who overpowered the world number two Xie at the quarterfinals of the recently concluded China Open, continued to surge up with her emphatic smash and placement shots before securing the game at 21-18.
The second game seemed lopsided at the inception as Wang ran away with a 6-1 lead. However, Xie, 26, rallied to come closer within 10-12 and overtook the lead at 17-14.
The win looked on course for Xie while leading 19-17 but Wang's aggressive attack and rapid reaction played role and helped her out with a 4 points run to clinch the game at 21-19 and the whole match.
In Indonesia's part, former world champions Widianto and Natsir, who ousted Chinese Olympic champions Zhang Jun and Gao Ling in the mixed doubles semifinals, needed only 50 minutes or so to beat another Chinese duo of Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen 2-0.
In men's doubles final, Kido Markis/Setiawan Hendra of Indonesia beat Mohammed Fairuzizuan Tazari/Woon Fui Lin of Malaysia 2-0. It was the second title for them within two weeks after they took China Open last week in Guangzhou.

(gs/*/ds)

SUMATRA EKSPRES/4 Maret 2007
JAKARTA - Chris John benar-benar bermental juara. Meski persiapan sempat terganggu soal bayaran sebelum laga, petinju berjuluk The Dragon itu akhirnya berhasil mempertahankan gelar juara dunia kelas bulu (57,1 kg) versi WBA. Bertarung di Stadion Tenis Indoor Senayan, Jakarta, tadi malam, Chris John menang angka mutlak dari penantang asal Venezuela, Jose “Cheo” Rojas. Sejak ronde pertama, Chris John langsung mengambil inisiatif menyerang.

Gol indah berhasil diciptakan defender sekaligus kapten SFC Firmansyah, menit ke-66.
peseg5 March 5th, 2007, 10:14 AM Tahun Ini, Perencanaan Renovasi Stadion Lebak Bulus Rampung
Seperti diketahui, Stadion Lebak Bulus dibangun tahun 1987.
Sedangkan rencana pengembangan stadion mencapai 3,6 hektare.
Pola pengelolaan Stadion Lebak Bulus saat ini berbentuk badan hukum sesuai Peraturan Gubernur No 132 Tahun 2005 tanggal 16 November 2005 tentang Pembentukan, Organisasi dan Tata Kerja Badan Pengelola Stadion Lebak Bulus Provinsi DKI Jakarta yang diundangkan pada 6 Desember 2005.
