View Full Version : World's Honest Opinion
NaOH + H2CO3 -> N2C July 14th, 2005, 07:41 AM I'd like to know what YOU think of this streetcar, does it look outdated?
If you do know which city/town/village/hamlet this vehicle is from, please don't post the name as that would lead to biased opinions. Please don't post the PT company either. If you live in the city/town/village/hamlet, I urge you, please do not post or vote (I'd like the rest of the world's opinion, there is also the chance you will give away the city/town/village/hamlet). Thanks. And please don't forget to post your own personal opinion besides the options of the ballot.

Bitxofo July 14th, 2005, 05:31 PM Old fashioned but very beautiful!
;)
I like it.
:)
Archiconnoisseur July 14th, 2005, 05:42 PM Can you post pictures of the inside?
MSPtoMKE July 14th, 2005, 07:48 PM I think a lot of people are going to know where this is from...
Anyways, none of the options really fit my opinion, so i didnt vote. I say it looks a bit outdated, but in a classic streamlined way. Not an old fashioned streetcar, but not truely modern either. They look great in person, too. Overall, nice.
aznichiro115 July 14th, 2005, 08:05 PM keep some as fan cars, i think a new fleet would look better looks a bit dated, as well as the livery. but i guess as long as it does it job then its ok
sharpie July 14th, 2005, 09:44 PM I ride one of those #$&! twice a day and they suck. They are a civic embarrassment! I was taught by the designer of that hulk! His name is Claude Gidman and we should all go and pee in his gas tank!
samsonyuen July 14th, 2005, 11:41 PM It's functional and iconic of the city. I don't love the city, but it serves it well. I'm indifferent.
willo July 15th, 2005, 12:13 AM a little bit outdated but it's fine
NaOH + H2CO3 -> N2C July 15th, 2005, 12:57 AM Thank you Torontonians, for rendering this poll entirely useless.
bs_lover_boy July 15th, 2005, 01:46 AM In Canadian Standards, I would rate it a Modern level, but in international standards, it is completely outdated.
greg_christine July 15th, 2005, 01:55 AM The simple but robust design of the Toronto CLRV's reminds me a lot of the earlier PCC's:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9b/TCRT_PCC_streetcar.jpg/300px-TCRT_PCC_streetcar.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/df/Pacific_Electric_1061_in_SFO_12-28-04b.JPG/300px-Pacific_Electric_1061_in_SFO_12-28-04b.JPG
The general configuration is virtually identical from the trucks to the trolley pole.
Jaye101 July 15th, 2005, 02:23 AM I ride one of those #$&! twice a day and they suck. They are a civic embarrassment! I was taught by the designer of that hulk! His name is Claude Gidman and we should all go and pee in his gas tank!
A true person from Toronto wouldn't say that.
I saw what you posted in another thread, if TTC sux so much, I have a simple solution. Don't ride it.
Deer (from Spain) July 18th, 2005, 11:54 PM It looks a bit outdated, and that's why I love it!! Modern low floor trams are perhaps easier to ride, but i like the 60s or 70s style that many tramways in Eastern Europe (and this one in NA) still feature. Please keep it, it will make your city different and original, as many systems look just the same nowadays
NYC2ORDGuy July 19th, 2005, 12:23 AM It was modern in the 1980s, and it set a great precedent for new streetcar design and maintenance. And they haven't fallen apart yet. But I do think they look outdated now. Kind of like the old Boeing cars (formerly) in SF and Boston.
NaOH + H2CO3 -> N2C, you ought to expect the folks who post in here to be able to recognize most major-city liveries. I doubt anyone who read your original post didn't know immediately these were TTC streetcars.
DiggerD21 July 20th, 2005, 03:10 AM Well, I didn't know where this streetcar is from. I also think that the design is a bit outdated.
nikko July 21st, 2005, 12:54 PM The red rockets are great. They may not be modern by todays standards, but they haven't dated very much...still look good and are an icon for the t-dot.
It's a shame I probably won't get to Toronto in time to ride one :(
Küsel July 21st, 2005, 01:39 PM Outdated ... but charming :)
