View Full Version : World Exposition
neil July 14th, 2005, 06:15 PM Do you think Manchester should bid for a World Exposition? Do you think we can do one? Would it be a success? and what benefits can we gain?
Some info on the World Exposition (www.expomuseum.com)
EarlyBird July 14th, 2005, 06:45 PM Most definitely. An expo would be great for the city, drawing in so many tourists who would then go back home and tell people how great the city was. Expos are bigger than the Olympics. The only problem I forsee is the way these big events are going. All the events, which undoubtedly boost cities majorly, are going to cities which already have a massive international profile.

Wouldn't hurt to try though
WeasteDevil July 14th, 2005, 06:51 PM Any ideas on where we could stick it?
Accura4Matalan July 14th, 2005, 06:51 PM Yeh, go for it.

Here's where I'd put it... there's lots of unused land and retail sheds in this area, as well as houses that could do with demolishing anyway, it's near some decent roads, there's a railway line we could stick a station on, it's close to the city centre and it'd expand the city centre by a huge amount. I know we've got developments ongoing in the area now, but we can work around them. Unless someone else can suggest a better location...
caw123 July 14th, 2005, 07:07 PM That's the area around the Irk river valley, I don't think you could get much built there.
Accura4Matalan July 14th, 2005, 07:07 PM Not bad, but it would be better if there was some water nearby. I suppose its no problem to extend a canal that way, or simply build an artificial lake.
neil July 14th, 2005, 07:12 PM I have wrote a e-mail to Manchester city council asking the question of will they ever bid for a World Exposition. If you think it will help you can e-mail them yourselves, and the more e-mails the more they might consider. The e-mail address is city.council@manchester.gov.uk
Diggler July 14th, 2005, 08:06 PM My company (Brother) has headquarters in Nagoya Japan - where the current Expo is (we are also exhibitor) . You can't a get a hotel room there for love nor money - mainly visitors from other parts of Japan (97%+) but quite a few from around the world.
spacepostman July 18th, 2005, 02:52 AM Several family friends of mine are councillors on Manchester City Council, I'll speak to them, maybe they can get things moving. Another option is for us to speak to the M.E.N to see if they could start a campaign? Maybe they could get Salford to bid for it to boost the 'Stand up for Salford' initiative?
highriser July 18th, 2005, 05:02 PM Just been looking through the World Expo website , this would be fantastic if Manchester was to host it,they city should go for the 2013 expo,
EarlyBird July 18th, 2005, 05:05 PM Can't remember which the next one is, but we should go for the next two year expo...
