Irving offers its residents convenience to Dallas, Fort Worth, and the D/FW Airport. This area features a wealth of art, cultural, sporting, and recreational activities. Texas Stadium, home of the World Champion Dallas Cowboys, is found in Irving. The Valley Ranch area in far north Irving houses the Dallas Cowboys' and Dallas Stars' training facilities, and offers a variety of residential opportunities.
Las Colinas, one of America's premier master planned communities of homes, businesses, restaurants, and the Mandalay Canal, is also a part of the City of Irving. Las Colinas has been ranked among the nation's most successful multi-use developments. It is home to many large companies, as well as the Byron Nelson.

Ok everyone this is the city I call home!

Las Colinas has a great masterplan. Especially their TOD stuff. Its good to see lots of residential going up there and office space filling up. I'm not an office park person, but I think the Urban Center totally has the right idea.

Nice pics. I love the Las Colinas area. I live in Duncanville and can see the Irving/LC skyline when I exit my subdivision. Cool - thanks for posting!

Nice photos. Irving has always seemed like an interesting "suburb" in the Metroplex. I know it has tons of major corporate HQs, like ExxonMobil. Their top floor is supposedly called the "God Pod" because decisions of such enourmous magnitude are made on that floor by it chief officers.

Was Irving a planned community from the beginning? It reminds me a lot of a similar sounding planned community in Southern California called Irvine.

Wow you can see Las Colinas all the way from Duncanville? I'm shocked!

From my understanding the city of Irving was not planned from the beginning. The Las Colinas and Valley Ranch areas in the northern part of the city were though. I believe The Carpenter Family owned most of what is now the Las Colinas development as their ranch was there, but in the 80's the city started to build a lot and it was believed that Las Colinas would be larger than Dallas' CBD! Unforunately the building frenzy came to complete halt as the Real Estate Bust had hit and since then things have slowly picked up. The good thing is that DART light rail should be running through the area by 2010 or somewhere near there and it is believed that a more uban environment shall follow! :)

Love the shots of the urban housing along the waterway. Nice landscaping as well. Too bad the Cowboys are forsaking COI for Arlington. It would've been interesting to see how the new Cowboys stadium would've looked near a development like Las Colinas, which, at least in my way of thinking, seems to offer more than the current Arlington site.

The Las Colinas portion of Irving, 1975. I had this picture since the early '80s:

Great, I'm glad ya'll enjoyed the pics! CTroy I think it's incredible how that area of our city (I know you're a fellow Irvingite) has grown within the last 20 years! Thanks for posting that picture. SCGuy, sorry but no horses this time.. they're played out I think. they really do bore me and I think there used to be more when I was younger.

Seems like a nice place (the Canals looks kinda like a mini-Riverwalk. It seems...empty, though.

Very Cool, my parents are moving to the Dallas area.

They're looking at Cedar Hill and Northeast Dallas County (Garland, Richardson, Rowlett). They want to live in Irving for the location but it's more expensive than the other suburbs they looked at.

Nice pix.
