Zulqi Pak July 17th, 2005, 09:40 PM That road looks great but why aren't there any lampposts. I think you won't see much in the night. By the look of it, it can get pretty dangerous looking at the environment.
Rkhan July 17th, 2005, 10:01 PM This is beautiful. Really.
Zulqi. On main highways there never are any lamp posts unless you're passing by a city.

They should put on all the main highways lampposts.
pakboy July 18th, 2005, 12:13 AM landscapes are very funky in the last 2 pictures.
Vengeance July 18th, 2005, 02:15 AM Balochistan has it own unique beauty unimaginable to us!
JADI July 18th, 2005, 10:03 AM amazing landscapes ... Which cities are Makran Coastal Highway passing ???
Zoltrix July 18th, 2005, 10:38 AM lamposts is in this pic

Grow up you lil' kid, and i'll put in in simple words for you, GET A LIFE. Do you understand that or i do i have to explain that is well.
Rkhan July 18th, 2005, 05:34 PM I feel that the highway should have been atleast four laned. Two lanes for each sude of the traffic. cuz as the time will pass they'll have to go in for major expansions once again giving problem to the traffic.
NewYork-wala July 18th, 2005, 08:17 PM I agree with Rkhan, road should have been doubled, atleast make it like GT road. With increasing traffic, a single lane will not be enough. This will make it even more dangerous since people will start overtaking.
Anyways, the scenery is beautiful. I love those mountains. The Highway look dizzying.
Hope July 18th, 2005, 08:46 PM my personal opinion is that two lanes are more than enough for short to medium term and our limited resources can be best utilized on other important projects. At the moment there is hardly any traffic on the road and it is not going to increase dramatically over night, so why built a road just for weather to deteriote it.

Then why build anything if it deteriorates over time?
Anyway, balochistan has a hot climate and any goad road would last long there!!

I think u did not get the point!!
The point is Pakistan does not have unlimited funds to build wide roads just for the sake of it!! There is not enough traffic on this road (even in the next 10-15 years) that will justifiy a four lane road...you may have noticed there is not a single vehicle on the pics above....
And then do not forget the main road to connect Gwadar is not costal highway but it is gona be the planned motorway which will connect the port to the rest of the country and the central asian states....The heavy traffic will be going down that route
UnitedPakistan July 18th, 2005, 11:12 PM BUT!
Well this can turn out to be Pakistan's largest tourist attraction!
UnitedPakistan July 18th, 2005, 11:14 PM That road looks great but why aren't there any lampposts. I think you won't see much in the night. By the look of it, it can get pretty dangerous looking at the environment.
They are deflectors on the road but during harsh conditions the FWO recommends you not drive!
pakboy July 19th, 2005, 03:11 AM well it looks like that many resorts may open up along side this road on the beaches, that will really increase traffic.
PakistaniSoul July 19th, 2005, 09:57 PM Wow... Just look at the BEaches SO beautifull A perfect Vecation spot
NewYork-wala July 20th, 2005, 12:24 AM Anyone who could build a nice big hotel there on one of those beaches and creats the infrastructre is gonna make a sh1t load of money!
If you build it, toursits WILL come!

First of all, you don't know if motorway is ever gonna come to Gawadar as it hasn't even come to Karachi yet!
And certainly, that would be a better investment than wasting money on basant (where scores of people die) or making a GHQ museum in Islamabad!

you are entitled to have your own opinions friend! Though I am not sure If Govt does spend money on Basant...
As far as your comment about motorway is concerned...If we take your argument/logic then we are not even sure if Gwadar plan will ever get finsihed! Just for you information, Govt has allocated the money for Gwadar motorway in this year's budget...So i am hoping for the best at least!
you may also want to have a look at this thread:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=171769
it might give you an idea that motorway is not planned to link Karachi with Gwadar but it is Ratodero!!
Vengeance July 21st, 2005, 12:29 AM Yes the government did allocate money to celebrate basant on the official level in past some years!
Gumnaam July 21st, 2005, 09:22 AM No need to construct a 4-lane road to begin with (partly due to limited funds and partly due to less traffic), after 10-15 years, may be 20, we can add 2 more lanes to it. Gwadar port, when fully operational has the potential to generate 40-50 b$$ in annual transit trade, so funding will not be an issue by then.
Hope July 21st, 2005, 09:37 AM Yes the government did allocate money to celebrate basant on the official level in past some years!
Must be a budget document they prepared for only YOU!!!! :tiasd:
Well said Paras...exactly that is the point I am trying to make...
PkPride July 30th, 2005, 06:19 AM there's nothing to drive to yet in Gawadar, when the time comes 4 lane highways will be built, if you've ever been to any developing City or area in Canada it's the same. (the main highway that goes from east coast to west highway 16 in Canada is mainly 2 laned , in a major city they are more lanes, but then back to one, i've driven it and the highway being referred to here. Canadaian highways also do not have lamp posts until the city arrives, same in the USA
Intoxication July 30th, 2005, 07:58 PM amazing landscapes ... Which cities are Makran Coastal Highway passing ???
Starts at Karachi and finishes at the Pak-Iran border. It passes Omara, Pasni, Gwadar and Jiwani.
BTW GR8 pics Pakboy!! :)

USA has got lamp posts even in the middle of nowhere :wtf:
Rkhan July 30th, 2005, 11:28 PM ^ are u out of ur mind? lol. no highways have lamp posts on the way unless approaching a city. there might be a strip of 2 km of lamp posts but once u cross the city, there are no lamp posts around.
UnitedPakistan July 30th, 2005, 11:47 PM Which region are you in?
Tristate area and northern vermont and maine area's have lights everywhere!
Rkhan July 31st, 2005, 05:54 AM I dont know man. I live in Toronto. Ive driven all north of the US. Chicago, Newyork, Pitsuburgh, Washington etc and no where will u be able to find lights on the highways, liek i said before. Some points are lit when approaching a particular city. thats about it. the rest of the highway is dark without lights. The reason being that its jsut impossible to have lighs on highways. Its extremely expensive. And other than that its WASTE of energy and resurces because you do not have enough ppl travelling on the highways or ppl living on highways.
UnitedPakistan July 31st, 2005, 05:24 PM I have been up into the rochester area
They have lights on all main roads even reaching out into the suburbs. I have been to toronto and its outskirts and i did not see lamposts.
heartkins August 4th, 2005, 05:59 PM Look at the landscape yaar
Really becomes the Pakistan largest tourists attraction thats for sure just need to aware people about this beauty
Absolutely diffrent than Northern areas Snowy Mountains,Kashmir green Forests,Punjab Agriculture Fields,Nwfp Lakes and Sind Deserts So Pakistan is
absolutely is the country where one can see
Snowy Mountains to dry Desrts,Sandy Beaches to green forests no other country in the worl can have such rich variety in Landscapes i believe.

Iqbal was probably thinking these kind of chattaans, when he penned his Shaheen verses.
Beautiful and perfect for uplifting one's spirits.
Only the Shaheen here looks like a Kawa but still the same.

There are interesting contrasts of rock, sand and gorgeous water along the Makran Coastal Highway at Kund Malir

On the hills atop the highway there is a fishing village. Unusual place to have one but then you realize that Kund Malir beach is on the other side of these rocks!
