Good news.

Hope the tower is decent. IMO it's one of the stranger places in SQ to plonk a tower down. They need to sort out that area around Bridgewater Way/Trafford Road, currently it is very crap for pedestrians.

If I remember rightly, Modus was submitted for Outline Planning Permission before Modus decided to put the project on hold. There may have been something, but I dont think it would have given any indication on whether or not the project was back on track.
Worth a try though I s'pose.

Modus should eventually go ahead. I was told by them it was put on hold but considering their activity recently (specifically in Wigan and Liverpool(I think)), it shouldn't be long until they make a move with it. They've sold some significant parts of their portfolio and made a fair bit of money. Rumours were abound a few months back that like Ask!, they're building up a "war chest", if you will, to further their own work and start on some really prestigious ting and ting y'nar.

It only make sense really, why should the most famous club and ground be surrounded by industrial warehouses? It should be a place to enjoy the location and such.. I think this will benefit the area tremendously (presuming its going to be approved??) and hopefully kick start similiar scale developments..

Oh fuck off, they better keep the warehouses. Anybody who denies the enjoyment of passing by the mural emblazoned warehouse or the one hosting the chain link sculpture is a cad and deserves eunich-isation immediately whilst listening to Slayer's Dave Lombardo destroying la batterias.

It would be a great pity if the mural were dispensed with. It is a familiar and welcome landmark.

Just one thing I've noticed though -- if they were planning to demolish the mural, why does that prospectus thing have a picture of it with the caption "Landmark mural overlooking Trafford interchange" (last pic on jrb's last post)? Does it mention anywhere in that brochure what they're planning to do with it, jrb?

caw123
July 24th, 2005, 04:07 PM
The big chains are across the road from this site, they are on either side of the Modus site. I cycled right alongside the Victoria Warehouses last week. There's still old railway tracks in the ground around it. Real piece of history. I will be sad to see it go. Remember going past that mural and a pre pubescent OT when I was a wee nipper.

Go on Trafford. Live upto your nimby reputation. Refuse this and make them encorporate the warehouses. And place the office tower somewhere else.

Yeah now about this mural, to be honest I only ever saw it as something to disguise a rather ugly warehouse. As nice as the mural may be, these warehouses coming down are long over due. I used to work just round the corner from this site up until January, and I could see the potential of the place everyday as I went to and from work on my bike, I used to pass this site and would always wish something would be done with it. I won't really miss the mural.

Walked through salford Quays, up around OT and into town the other day.

It wouldn't take many more devlepments like this, maybe a few on Pomona, to start the city centre expanding out big time to the south.

The gap between Castlefield, Pomona, Salford Quays, white city retail park and OT is getting very very small.

Erm, I'm really not in favour of this development. The warehouse really should be preserved in my eyes.

rolybling

The warehouse is serving no function, its about time it came down, its not even a nice looking building.

I agree Metrolink, won't be long now til City Centre and the Quays are seemlessly linked, which expands town in a massive way to the south like you say, it was only a matter of time ..for it makes sense.

If there should be any shouting about preseving a mural,it should be for the Roman army one in Castlefield the paint is peeling off it and its looking very worn.
This should be repainted asap
