Ermmm.....i think the horse track will be demolish for the runway extension .....
Nope, I understand the race track remains as it is as things stand now - the available land at this end allows quite minimal scope for extension of runway (20) as compared to the land reclamation option being undertaken now at the other end (runway 02)
Furthermore, if you've seen overhead shots of the area, you'll notice that the race track is actually situated well to one side of the runway alignment. Admittedly though, safety considerations would well prevent siting the two side by side - obviously !!

Asian Pac strikes gold in Sabah
Property Talk By C.S. CHEAH
THE signboard at the entrance to the hotel's meeting room said it all: “Due to the overwhelming interest in Karamunsing Capital, we regret to inform you that all the units of Karamunsing Capital have been sold. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for taking time to attend the property launch.”
The management of Syarikat Kapasi Sdn Bhd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asian Pac Holdings Bhd, a Bursa Malaysia main board property development company) had put up the notice on Nov 21, the day of the official launch of Karamunsing Capital at the Pacific Sutera Hotel in Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota Kinabalu.
It is Asian Pac’s second commercial development in Kota Kinabalu. Its maiden project, KKTimes Square (KKTS) was successfully launched in mid 2005.
The company has opened for sale all eight 24ft x 60ft blocks comprising 16 lots of three-storey shop offices and 39 lots of two-storey shops with a total of 110 shop units and 16 office units on the 6.5-acre project on Friday, Nov 17.
The following day, all units had been snapped up!
“There’s nothing to sell tomorrow (Nov 21),” Matthew Ng, assistant general manager of Asian Pac told me when I arrived at the Sutera Harbour Resort. The Asian Pac group had flown me there to attend the official launch.
Those who missed buying a unit still showed interest by browsing at scale models of the nicely designed commercial development located near KKTS, the largest urban commercial project in Kota Kinabalu. KKTS is sited along the Coastal Highway, next to the Sutera Harbour Resort.
Karamunsing Capital, served by three major roads - Jalan Tuaran, Jalan Bukit Nenas and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman - is 10 minutes drive from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. It is across the road from the Berjaya Palace Hotel and next to the Karamunsing Kompleks.
The Wisma SESB, Beverly Hotel, Kompleks Kuwasa, Wisma Tun Fuad Stephens, RTM Complex and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd buildings are all nearby.
As it is in one of the busiest areas in Kota Kinabalu with the highest working population, it is a very attractive place to do business. It is also within walking distance to KKTS, where the first phase of signature offices are due to be completed next November.
Moreover, the pricing is deemed value for money: from RM529,000 for the ground floor shop; from RM281,000 for the first floor shop and from RM243,000 for the office suite. There will be more than 400 car park bays with 10ft wide corridor and a modern facade.
One of its attractions is that unlike the usual shop offices commonly seen in the Klang Valley, Karamunsing Capital with a gross development value of RM53mil will have two floors of shops with two levels of corridors. The rooftop is a car park. The offices are located at the corner three-storey blocks.
Karamunsing Capital’s freehold land was bought about six months ago. Earthwork has begun.
A lawyer said she bought two blocks in Karamunsing Capital and an office unit in KKTS as she “trusts the developer and likes both projects”.
As a new developer in Kota Kinabalu, the Asian Pac Group is serious in stamping its mark in Sabah.
Since attending the sales launch of the 23-acre two-phased KKTS more than a year ago, I was glad to find that its Phase 1 signature offices are 80% completed, with about 80% of the shop offices sold.
Wearing hard hats and boots, a group of bank executives and I toured KKTS where most blocks have reached roof level and work is in progress on the 37,000 sq ft of open centre court piazza.
There will be 372 offices and 72 retail outlets within a unique, proven and successful concept similar to Phileo Damansara in Section 16, Petaling Jaya.
“There are 600 workers at the KKTS site since we started construction in June 2005. We are positioning KKTS as the highest grade (commercial property) in Kota Kinabalu with tinted glass and 15ft-high ceiling.
“See the 15ft-wide corridors with double volume ceiling and dual frontage for the ground floor retail units. We are importing granite for the wall cladding,” Asian Pac general manager Calvin K.H. Low said, pointing to the wide frontage where two blocks share one column, a good feature to showcase retail products or services.
The five-storey block was initially priced at about RM1.8mil with the last price hitting RM1.9mil. A six-storey block initially priced around RM2.15mil was last sold for RM2.3mil while an eight-storey block is priced at RM3mil.
Low said the developer would build a RM4mil flyover at a roundabout to link to KKTS.
Phase 2 would be the construction of a 1.2 million sq ft shopping mall with 830,000 sq ft of nett lettable space. It would be kept for rental income.
Asian Pac chief executive officer (property) Chuah Swee Guan said the “astonishing” 100% sales of Karamunsing Capital showed investors’ confidence in the project's potential.
“As a responsible developer with a dedicated project team, we will ensure that the product will be of the highest quality. Construction of Phase 1 (KKTS) is progressing rapidly and should be completed by November 2007, six months ahead of schedule.
“Most of our buyers are locals, with some from west Malaysia. From feedback, many buyers are very happy with the concept and quality of KKTS,” Chuah said.
He added that KKTS would have 3,500 car park bays while Karamunsing Capital would have 420 bays. Both projects have double the number of bays required by the authorities.
Asian Pac managing director Datuk Mustapha Buang said the group had sold properties worth more than RM1bil since 2004.
“Our aspiration is to help transform Kota Kinabalu into a bustling commercial hub in east Malaysia, complementing its attractive tourism industry,” he added.

RM50m deal to add 240 more hotel rooms
Kota Kinabalu: A.C Property Development Sdn Bhd marked another milestone Monday when it sealed a RM50 million tourism infrastructure loan agreement with Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), through its wholly-owned subsidiary AC Bumi Sdn Bhd, to build a 12-storey hotel at Asia City, here.
According to A.C Property Development Sdn Bhd/AC Bumi Sdn Bhd Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Dr Ting Ing Chiew, they are "looking at a three to four-star hotel with up to 240 rooms and seven suite rooms".
"Our management's decision to launch the proposed hotel under our Phase IIB development at this time, was in direct response to the call by Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat in December 2005 that Sabah would need a further 8,000 hotel rooms over the next five years.
"This is to meet the anticipated rise in tourist arrivals following the current expansion of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport which will become the second largest and busiest airport in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur International Airport," he said.
Speaking after representing A.C Bumi Sdn Bhd at the signing ceremony that was witnessed by Chong, who is also Deputy Chief Minister at the Sutera Harbour Resort here, he said Holiday Inn, Swiss Garden, Park Royal Kuala Lumpur were some outfits under consideration to manage the new hotel.
Among the facilities would be a convention room that can accommodate about 1,000 people. At the same time, the development would also see a multi-storey car park complex coming up.
"We want to start early next year and hopefully complete it by December 2008," said Dr Ting.
Earlier, he registered A.C Property's appreciation for its joint-venture partners - Sabah Economic Development Corporation and Sabah Urban Development Corporation - for the strong support and cooperation in ensuring the successful implementation of the Asia City Urban Development project.
He said as a developer they have full confidence in the tourism sector in Sabah, which had been one of the largest income earners for the State and is still growing rapidly.
"As I speak, four to five hotels are also under construction. This clearly indicates continued belief in the future of tourism in Sabah," he said.
Besides, it provides good employment opportunities for the future generation of Sabahans in the hospitality and tourism sector.
This is further boosted by Sabah's diverse culture of over 30 indigenous groups speaking over 50 languages and 100 dialects as well as the warm hospitality of the locals that have won the heart of tourists the world over.
"They keep on coming back to our pristine shores, breathtaking rainforests, beautiful diving spots, highest peak in Asia, largest flower in the world and the Orang Utan. These are just a few of Sabah's attractions. "And it is largely due to the untiring efforts of the State Tourism Minister which has made it so successful," he said.
Meanwhile, BPMB President/Group Managing Director, Datuk Haji Abdul Rahim Mohd Zin said the ceremony reflected the bank's high confidence in Sabah's tourism sector.
Currently, four more loan applications totalling RM200m from developers in Sabah were under BPMB's preliminary evaluation, he said, adding that BPMB had received allocation totalling RM1.2 billion from the Federal Government for the purpose.
To date, a total of RM140m in loans had been approved by BPMB in Sabah including those received by AC Bumi Sdn Bhd.
"We are very encouraged by Sabah's potential," he said. Earlier, he said BPMB recognised the State capital to be a gradually emerging force as the preferred meeting, incentives, conventions and exhibition destination.

KKIA Terminal 2 ready 29 months early
13th December, 2006
KOTA KINABALU: The new Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) Terminal 2 building is in the final phase of redevelopment and it will be ready for operation effective January 1, 2007 in time for the Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
The existing old building will be demolished on December 31, 2006, Global Upline Sdn Bhd advisor Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing announced when inspecting the final touch-up of the new terminal building yesterday.
Global Upline was awarded Package 2 of the redevelopment of KKIA project. The scope of work involves construction of the airside infrastructure, a new low cost carrier (LCC) terminal or Terminal 2 and a new air traffic control tower.
Work on the project commenced in May 2006, with a contract period of 36 months—the December completion puts the projects a full 29 months ahead of schedule.
“We took seven months to finish the works. It is a new record for us and this is the biggest present we want to give to the Sabahans and visitors,” he said.
To ease the flow of traffic, he said a dual carriageway will be built along Jalan Mat Salleh, which leads to the airport, and a traffic light system will be installed to control the traffic.
Presently, there are 190 car parks available at the airport and another 200 will be built for the convenient of the airport users, he said.
On the secret of his speed, Ting said it was due to proper management, planning and hard work.
“The workers are treated like first class citizen and they eat four meals a day with breakfast at 6am, lunch (12pm), dinner (5pm) and supper (9pm or midnight).
“On the last part of the job we have almost 2,000 workers and each of them has a different speciality. They work from morning till 9pm or midnight for 18 hours,” he said.
The new terminal building will have 23 check-in counters for international and domestic flights, nine aircraft parking apron to accommodate B737-800 or AB320 at any one time, the terminal building can handle between 1,500-2,000 people per hour.
It will also house all the necessary government agencies such as Immigration Department, Customs Department, Agriculture Department and Police. Commercial outlets including for food and beverages and other retail, with open concept are also provided. There will also be a VIP arrival and departure lounge.
Also present during the visit were Global Upline chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud, its managing director Mohd Danel Abong and project manager Michael Ting.

Sabah to have a MSC-type park: Yee
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah plans to develop a knowledge park to stimulate information and communications technology (ICT) development in the State, Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai said Monday.
He said his Ministry is currently in discussion with institutions of higher learning such as Universiti Malaysia Sabah with a possible location being at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park.
He said it is aimed at getting input on how best to set up a platform to integrate the existing ICT infrastructure and pool of information technology (IT) savvy workforce to produce multimedia products and service like the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) project.
"Our focus would be on ideas generation, innovation, creativity and R&D (research and development)," Yee said after officiating at a seminar on Opportunities and Economic Impact of ICT in Sabah, here.
The one-day seminar was organised by the Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDEC).
According to Yee, Sabah has the niche to create the necessary environment for this to happen.
"As we all know, the largest value in any product is not the materials that went into making the physical product itself but on the R&D and design of it."
Yee cited Nike which, he said, does not have any shoe factory but the manufacturing is out-sourced to cheap labour countries such as China and Vietnam.
Although Sabah may lag behind in terms of infrastructure compared to other states, Yee said Sabah has some niche in developing multimedia contents given the artistic talents of its young people.
"If we can combine the technological and management know-how with the artistic talents of the young and the old, I am sure we have a winning formula. Our success depends very much on our own attitude. A positive one will definitely help us to move forward," he said.
Meanwhile, MDEC Vice President Abdullah Kadir Bacha said Sabah's multicultural society, strategic location and commendable infrastructure would certainly play a major role in the knowledge-based economy.
"The fact that Sabah has one of the highest mobile phone subscribers' growth rate shows a total reflection of the desire of its people to use technology equipment to communicate and indirectly improve its productivity," he said.
Abdullah Kadir also commended efforts by the Sabah Government in developing multimedia applications such as Sabah.Net, e-government applications, des@net and e-Desa.

Another report of KKIA Terminal 2, this time it's from Daily Express
Source : http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/news.cfm?NewsID=46119
Terminal 2 ready on Jan.1
The new Terminal Two in Tanjung Aru will be commissioned by Jan. 1 next year, as promised by the contractor Global Upline Sdn Bhd at the start of the re-development project in May this year.
Global Upline Adviser Tan Sri Ting Pek Khing said they planned to complete the new building by Dec. 31 for it to be ready for operation by Jan. 1, to coincide with the commencement of the Visit Malaysia Year.
http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/upload/131206la.jpg
peaking to reporters when visiting the project site together with Global Upline Chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Daud and Managing Director Mohd Danil Abong, Tuesday, he said with the completion of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport's Terminal Two, the firm had broken its own record of completing two airports in one year.
He said it completed the new Kuching Airport building in April this year before they started working on the new Terminal Two in Tanjung Aru.
Global Upline was awarded the multi-million ringgit Package Two of the redevelopment of the KKIA project, which, apart from the new terminal building, includes the construction of the airside infrastructure and a new air traffic control tower.
The completion of the new Terminal Two building as well as upgrading of Jalan Mat Salleh road heading to the terminal and creating an additional 197 parking lots making it a total 390 took only six months of the 36-month contract period.
To a question, Ting said they managed to complete the project quickly because the material was ready for use and 2,000 workers were mobilised at once, working an average 18-hours a day.
Provided with four meals daily, he said the workers were disciplined and hardworking.
He added that they wanted to quickly complete the building out of sympathy for the passengers having to face congestion in the old terminal. It was also part of Global Upline's contribution to the development of the State's tourism industry, he said.
The new Terminal Two that can handle up to 1,500 passengers would include a dedicated VVIP area and an aircraft parking apron with the capacity to accommodate up to nine Boeing 737s at any one time.

i've got this at www.newsabahtimes.com.my
Where fun has no limit
http://www.newsabahtimes.com.my/mediafiles/picture/1039/p8c.jpg?1166413367
Jump to the sky defying gravity while you perform amazing acrobatics on the bungee trampolines
TUCKED in a corner of Kampung Beringgis, occupying some eight acres of land facing the South China Sea, is a new adventure park that is bound to create loads of excitement for locals and tourists alike.
KK Adventure Park is the first of its kind to be operated in Sabah and it offers challenging and exciting activities for adventure lovers and families in a clean, fun and safe environment.
Meet Bryan Wade who does not come across as your ordinary man on the street. But then again, what would one expect of a five-time British motor cross champion.
His love of biking and adventures inspired him to develop the Park with another adventure seeker in Terry Mills.
And so there are some eleven activities ranging from Quad Bikes, Buggy Rides, Bungee Trampolines, High Rope Challenge, Low Rope Course, Kayaks, Flying Fox, Wall-Climbing, Giant Chess, Hidden Treasure and Coconut Climb.
Explaining Quad bikes and the stuff would require pages, so its best if one took the short 30-minute drive, south of Kota Kinabalu City at KM 26.5, Jalan Papar Baru, Kinarut and see as well as experience for oneself what Wades and Mills and group have strung together.
With its tagline ‘fun has no limit’, KK Adventure Park promises fun and excitement where perhaps one could be subjected to a little danger but in relative safety.
What is assuring is that all staff at the Park are first-aid trained, as some cuts and sprains are bound to occur, though it would not be expected to be anything more severe than bruised egos.
KK Adventure Park opened its doors with a soft opening on Saturday.
There is something for everyone in the family and it could be a half-day or whole day outing. While mum sunbathes, dad and the boys (as well as girls) can go seek glory at the quad track. But then mum can also hitch a ride on the two-seater ATVs, if the tan is already there.
The Park’s mascot is “Krazy Ken”, an outgoing and charming cartoon character.
Those who wish to visit the Park may drive in with their private vehicles or go onboard its daily shuttle bus from the City. The Park opens 7 days a week from 9:30am to 6:00pm .
Apart from KK Adventure Park, Wade’s Borneo Biking Adventures, also promises clientele “the ride of a lifetime” with neatly tailored escorted adventure rides.
But for now, its mostly foreign tourists who seek out his services for rides of 6,000 feet over the Crocker Range, experiencing the extremes Sabah has to offer such as sweeping bends to tight mountain trails.
Bikes and riding gear are provided and Wade reckons that such adventure sport tourism in Sabah can only grow bigger as more and more people get to know about it through word of mouth and other promotion.
“It’s the perfect get-away as it takes one out of his or her comfort zone (but under supervision of course) see knuckles turn white but after all that exhilaration, this adventure helps in character building,” declared Wade.
Then again, that’s a different story for another day.

Colour-coded buses for KK
Kota Kinabalu: Passenger buses (Bas Berhenti-henti) in the city will be colour-coded next year, Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) Chairman Datuk Bung Moktar Radin said Thursday.
North zone buses will be coloured blue/white, south zone buses red/white, east zone buses orange/white and city centre zone buses purple/white.
The bus owners have until June 30 next year to comply, Bung Moktar said told a Press conference at his office here.
He said mini buses plying within the city have to change their status to that of stopping buses, a decision made by the Board on Aug 31.
"Those who have a van or bus with less than 25-passenger seating capacity (excluding driver) have until 31 Dec 2012 to replace it with one with a capacity of 24 passengers or more."
"Those who fail to comply with this will not be able to renew their licences and those who want to use the same bus will have their route throughout the city cancelled".
Bung Moktar said CVLB would also work closely with City Hall to co-ordinate the bus operating areas and reshuffle routes through the city next year, as well as considering opening more routes in the city which currently are not being serviced.
He advised mini and stage buses operators which have a route through the city to operate in the area or route stated in their permits in accordance with Section 19(1) of the CVLB Act 1987.
"All buses are not allowed to cut short their journey and the trip must end at the Wawasan Plaza Bus Terminal. Those who fail to do this will be fined RM300. If the case is brought to court and the offender is found guilty, he can be fined a minimum of RM1,000 and maximum of RM10,000 or jailed not more than one year or both," he said.
Meanwhile, the Board in its meeting on April 21 made it compulsory for bus and hired car drivers to wear light blue short-sleeved collared shirt, dark pants and black shoes while driving, effective Oct. 1.
Taxi drivers have been wearing a white shirt, black pants and black shoes since 1 July 2005, Bung Moktar said, adding this is necessary to support the tourism industry.
During the Visit Malaysia Year, all public transport drivers have to display their driver's card, comply with the uniform regulations, ensure their vehicles are clean and use the taxi metre (enforcement effective Jan 1 next year).
Bung Moktar also said that in this year, the CVLB had issued 123 compound offer notices with compound collection of RM36,750.
On another matter, Bung Moktar said that beginning April next year, there will be six intra city buses to curb congestion with a fare of 50 sen per trip.
Three companies have shown interests in the contract, he said. Bung also denied a complaint in Express Forum that a Government servant was holding 30 taxi permits.
He said the said Government servant only had one permit and the CVLB will not entertain such wild accusations.
There is also a suggestion to legalise the use of pick-up truck service in Keningau, which is unique like the Jeepney in Keningau, Bung Moktar said.
"Next year also, we will launch lorry depots for operators to subscribe to avoid indiscriminate parking of lorries especially at residential areas," he added.

Telekom Tower, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Background Information
A design proposal for a new corporate office for Telekom Malaysia in the state of Sabah. The site measuring approximately 16.86 acres is fronting a busy trunk road heading to Kota Kinabalu City Center.
Design Approach
The design calls for 2 identical towers separated by a four levels of podium. The design also allows for one of the tower and retail podium area to be rented out to generate revenue. The position of the two towers is situated at an angle perpendicular to the main road for greater visibility. A large auditorium building is proposed within the development for public use.

Flyover at Kolombong-Lintas junction?
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah MCA deputy Youth chief Yong Chen Leong hopes the state government would push for the building of a flyover at Kolombong-Lintas intersection under the Ninth Malaysian Plan to ease traffic jams along the stretch.
Yong pointed out that Kolombong highway is not only used by those who are heading to Penampang or Luyang from areas such as Sepanggar, Inanam or Kolombong, but also as the main route to the KKIA.
However, serious traffic jams would not only become a problem for the users, but also a cost of time and fuel for the people. “When users are either heading to their office or going home after work, they would have to spend at least half an hour along that stretch. So one can imagine how much time would have to be wasted in week.”
Yong who is also the Youth Chief for MCA Sepanggar division, said that an immediate measure to overcome the jam would be to widen the present road as a flyover would need time as the authorities need to study it first.
He stressed that the ever-increasing of vehicles along the Kolombong highway was also due to the increase of new residential areas in Sepanggar, Inanam and Kolombong.
“The Luyang-Kolombong intersection has become a bottleneck,” he said.
The current dual carriageway is no longer sustainable to accommodate the vehicles of the road, he said.
He called on the government to give priority for the widening of the road for its road projects next year.

Unique Mega Mall set to be KK's latest hub
Kota Kinabalu: The first all-on-ground-floor shopping mall in Sabah, the KK Mega Mall, will be completed end of next year, with 65 per cent of available units already sold.
The single-storey international concept was conceived based on new international shopping mall trends in Australia, US, Canada and New Zealand, said Robert Ling Tiong Chai of Ideal Prestige Sdn Bhd, which is developing the shopping mall.
According to Ling, the company is confident about the prospects of the KK Mega Mall, which is located along the "migratory" route of people bound from the north and from the east coast.
"We estimate about 50,000 people pass by Tanjung Lipat daily.
Furthermore, surrounding the KK Mega Mall are housing estates and six major schools with 20,000 students, thus adding to the mall being a focal point that offers the widest range of goods and entertainment," he said.
The latest shopping mall is being built near Maksak (Sabah Civil Service Recreational Council) Hall, opposite the Sabah Trade Centre, here.
Ling, who is Executive Director of Ideal Prestige, told Daily Express that the main advantage of the shopping mall is its unique all-on-the-ground-floor concept, which has proven to be the in-thing in other countries, especially in the West.
He said the KK Mega Mall is not only set to become the city's latest commercial hub but will also set a new trend for shopping malls in the country owing to the concept.
Ling said another unique feature would be a 1,400-foot wide boulevard abutting the mall resembling the renowned Bintang Walk in Kuala Lumpur.
There would be two atriums covering a total floor area of 15,000 sq ft to cater to special performances, product promotions and competitions, among others, he said.
He said together with retail units, supermarket, fast-food centres, food court, departmental stores and amusement centres all located on the same floor, the KK Mega Mall will provide for about 1,500 car parking lots on three floors above. The development will also incorporate eight blocks of five-storey condominiums.
To be built on an area roughly the size of 10 football fields surrounding the existing Maksak Hall and office would be a 12-storey 200-room hotel and a 10-storey office block as well as a Maksak Civil Service Museum.
In this respect, Ling said the project is a joint-venture with landowner, Maksak, while the main contractor is Golden Kinabalu Sdn Bhd.
"We are confident the KK Mega Mall will become the commercial hub for the city," said Ling On Saturday, Ideal Prestige held a New Year celebration on site. Present to entertain guests were Ideal Prestige's Managing Director Tiong Sie Liing, Project Manager Charlie Chan and Finance Manager Cyndi Lin.

Sabah's Nexus Residence Karambunai Launched In Singapore
SINGAPORE, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- A luxury beachfront villas and condominium development in Sabah, the Nexus Residence Karambunai, which promises hotel-like facilities, was launched here Wednesday in a five-day marketing campaign.
The 99-year leasehold development is designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo, well-known designer of The Palace of Lost City in South Africa, The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas and The Atlantis in the Bahamas.
International property consultant, Colliers International, which had also launched the project in Hong Kong last month, is the marketing agent for the facility which is scheduled for completion in 2007.
Nexus Residence comprises 24 single-storey pool villas of 1,275 square feet and 69 spa villas measuring between 927 and 1,145 square feet.
Prices for the pool villas will start from RM991,523 (US$263,003) while the spa villas are priced from RM509,459 (US$135,135).
These will be serviced by the five-star Nexus Resort Karambunai which is located nearby.
Karambunai Corp Bhd's chief operating officer Datuk Robin Loh said a total of 30 units would be offered for discounts in Singapore during the five-day period.
Loh was upbeat about Nexus Residence's appeal to Singaporeans, judging by the success of the project in Hong Kong.
"In the three days of the launching in Hong Kong, 90 per cent of the units offered had been snapped up," he told reporters after the launching of the project by Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, Datuk N. Parameswaran.
Parameswaran described the marketing of the project here as timely as more people were looking towards Sabah as a choice place to visit.
"There will also be an increase in the number of direct flights between Kota Kinabalu and Singapore. Currently Malaysia Airlines operates three weekly flights. On Dec 12, SilkAir will be introducing twice weekly flights. A lot of interest will be generated towards Sabah," he said.
The project will be featured in Dubai in January next year, followed by another round of marketing in Hong Kong in February

Personally, I think KK already has a scenario of having too many Shopping Centres in comparative to its population. Even in Klang Valley's population the number of successful Shopping Centres is much lesser than the number of shopping centres as listed above. :ohno:

Why you think Sabah state govt has taken such drastic step as to halt approval for any further malls/complexes in KK ?
In any case, a "successful shopping complex" is such a subjective matter, and as things go here, it takes one heck of a long time for a place to 'mature'

DBKK to take back the management of Anjung
Kota Kinabalu: Problems caused by hawkers at Anjung Perdana, a favourite tourist spot at Tanjung Aru Beach, have prompted City Hall to take matters into its own hands.
In March, City Hall will take over the management of the Anjung Perdana from the current manager, Sugar Bun Corporation, to get the hawkers back on track.
The Anjung Perdana will also be given a RM1mil facelift by Sugar Bun before the handing-over, said Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim on Wednesday.
He told the Daily Express that the handing-over, mutually agreed by City Hall and Sugar Bun, is necessary as the hawkers at the area are not cooperating with the present manager.
"For example, the hawkers have been defaulting on the rent of their business premises. Some are also found not to be operating in their designated areas.
"Some of the hawkers are renting out their licences and this is not a healthy practice," stressed Iliyas.
According to the Mayor, the improvement works are scheduled to begin in February and expected to be completed in a month.
"The Anjung Perdana management will be handed over after the refurbishing works are finished," he said, adding the local authority's Hawkers Division will be in charge of the hawkers.
Iliyas, therefore, requested the cooperation from the hawkers as the area will be closed during the works.
He also said the improvement works are necessary as the move is in line with the Government's aim to promote the country as a tourist destination in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
"We need to take care of the Anjung Perdana as it is a favourite spot for tourists, both local and foreign," he said.
Early Wednesday, Iliyas led some 150 people from City Hall, Sugar Bun, Puspanita and Anjung Perdana stall operators in a gotong royong to clean the said area.
Iliyas said the spot was in a dissatisfactory state and necessitated an integrated effort from all the people involved to return it to its original clean condition.
"The Anjung Perdana is a priority area," said the Mayor.
Also involved during the gotong royong were Sugar Bun Corporation Executive Adviser Datuk Ambrose Lee and City Hall Puspanita Chief Datin Naimah Hassan.

KK to celebrate City Day on grander scale
Kota Kinabalu: City Hall will be celebrating its seventh anniversary on a grander scale this year by involving international participants in the celebration on Feb 2.
Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim, whose tenure was extended for another two years by the State Government recently, said the rationale is to promote tourism as well as cultural integration between the participating countries and Kota Kinabalu.
"It is also City Hall's efforts to complement the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 tourism campaign that was launched by the Government to promote our country and culture to the outside world," he said.
He said this when welcoming international cultural troupes at Jesselton Point, here, Wednesday.
The troupes were from Yongin City of South Korea, City of Rockingham Western Australia, South Africa, Philippines, China, Indonesia, Sarawak, Malacca and Kuala Lumpur.
They flew in to Kota Kinabalu to take part in the city's celebration at Promenade Boulevard, Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens.
Among the itinerary are a floats parade, performance by popular artistes, international cultural performances, flag-raising ceremony and fireworks display.
During the month of February, City Hall has also lined up several programmes that would involve public participation.
The events are launching of the City Gallery at Centre Point Sabah (Feb 2), Batik Show at Palm Square (Feb 2-6), Chinese New Year Carnival at Gaya Street (Feb 10-15), City Run at Padang Merdeka (Feb 11), International Dart Tournament at community hall (Feb 23-25), VIP Golf tournament at Nexus Resort (Feb 24) and KK City Tourism Treasure Hunt at Nexus Resort (Feb 25).
Iliyas also took the opportunity to inform the guests that Jesselton Point would be the starting point of mega scale development, Jesselton Waterfront.
He said when the project is completed it would fully transform Kota Kinabalu into an ultra modern city.
"It is also earmarked to become a heritage landmark in the city," he said.
Also present were Group Managing Director of Suria Bumiria Sdn Bhd Datuk Abu Bakar Abas, Mayor of South Kuching City Council Datuk Chong Ted Tsuing, Deputy Mayor of Yongin City of South Korea Chong Soung Dae, Head of Indonesia (Kalimantan) Cultural Firminus Kunun, Chief of Staff Philippines Tourism Authority Joselito V. Odra, Deputy Director of North Kuching City Hall Mohamed Khidir Abang and Executive Director of Suria Bumiria Sdn Bhd Zainie Aucasa.

Misi 3K asas kejayaan DBKK

Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu sedia prasarana kelas satu untuk sektor pelancongan, perniagaan, pelaburan
http://www.bharian.com.my/m/BHarian/BHimages/01dbkk.jpg
KOTA KINABALU: Esok genaplah tujuh tahun Kota Kinabalu bergelar bandar raya.
http://www.bharian.com.my/m/BHarian/BHimages/01sesak.jpg
PEMBANGUNAN PESAT: DBKK berusaha mengatasi masalah
http://www.bharian.com.my/m/BHarian/BHimages/01kkia.jpg
KEMUDAHAN: KKIA pemangkin ekonomi
Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu

Bandar Seri Begawan - Bruneians have been invited to attend the various programmes that have been lined up during the 71h anniversary of Kota Kinabalu City Hall next month.
A statement issued by the KK City Hall's Public Relations Officer, Suzanah Abd Hamid, stated that among the programmes are an international cultural performance and a float parade on Jan 31.
The cultural performance would include performers from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Philippines, Australia, Korea, China as well as from Kuching, Sarawak and the Sabah Cultural Board.
Among the singers invited to the event are Mohd Firdaus Abdul Halim (Fiq), Ruhayu Baharudin (Ayu/2nd season Mentor), Melianie (City Hall Idola second place winner), Roger Wang, Anthony Chang, Atama, Abu Bakar Ellah and Joanne Henley.
She said a flag raising ceremony to commemorate Kota Kinabalu's achievement of city status would be held at 12 midnight on Feb 2. Other programmes include a batik exhibition (Feb 2-6), Larian Bandaraya (Feb 11), Chinese New Year Carnival (Feb 10-15), VIP Golf Championship (Feb 24), International Dart Championship (Feb 23-25), and Treasure Hunt (Feb 25).
Suzanah said the programmes are in line with the government's effort to attract more tourists to Kota Kinabalu in particular and to Sabah in general in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Anjung Senja stretch to be closed during City Hall's celebrations
27 January, 2007
Kota Kinabalu: The Anjung Senja stretch near Promenade Hotel here would be closed on Jan 29, Jan 30 and Feb 1 to allow for preparations for the city's seventh anniversary celebration.
The full dress rehearsal of the parade would be carried out on Jan 29 and 30 while the actual event will be held on Feb 1 with the Head of State, Chief Minister and other dignitaries expected to attend.
City Traffic and Public Order Chief, DSP M. Chandra said the police would facilitate the closure of the stretch, starting from the roundabout near Wawasan Plaza to the roundabout near Centre Point Sabah, from 6pm on those days, and advised motorists to follow all instructions from them.
He said only those staying in Marina Court, Promenade Hotel or working at the Ocean restaurant are allowed to enter the zone, adding, however, no vehicles are allowed to park along the stretch on the mentioned days from 5pm.
Ample parking spots have been allocated for the VIPs and those directly involved in the grand occasion, he said, adding visitors could park their vehicles at the parking bays nearby.
He also warned visitors not to park indiscriminately, adding errant motorists will have their vehicles towed.
"We will tow it back to the traffic police station here and the motorists will have to pay a compound based on the type of vehicle under the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicle Removal and Detention Fees) Rule 1982," Chandra said.
The compound for motorcycles is RM20, motorcars (RM50), mini buses and lorries under 3,000kg (RM100) and lorry tanker or trailer over 3,000kg (RM150), he added.
"And if you can, please come early and car pool," he reminded the public, adding they should also avoid visiting the Filipino and central market on those days to prevent traffic congestion.

Aiming for Perth-KK flight
Kota Kinabalu: Mutual trust generated since a unique "friendship city" pact signed last year has infused confidence among the business communities of Kota Kinabalu and Western Australia's Rockingham city, said Mayor Barry Sammels, Thursday.
"We have had many discussions and identified many opportunities on both sides," said Barry of the historic Memorandum of Understanding with his counterpart Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim, at the Rockingham City Hall last November 17.
Sammels is leading a business delegation here for the KK City Day celebration, on invitation by Iliyas .
Among them include Justin Smith, President of Rockingham City Chamber of Commerce and Verghese Jacob, Regional Director of Kuala Lumpur-based Western Australian Trade Office. "We have certainly gained a lot of momentum over a short period of time," Sammels said, citing some industries getting very close to working with KK.
"One thing I would like to see is a direct flight between Perth and KK. Something we might be able to push from our end," he said, predicting that the hospitality industry here is going to "grow and grow." As for KK, Sammels said there has been a lot more development taking place since his last visit and believes the reasonable property prices should attract some Australians to invest here as well.
His coastal city of 90,000 is about 45 minutes' drive south of Perth and reckons it can learn from the resort city idea from Kota Kinabalu . Asked what aspects of tourism KK can contribute, Sammels said: "Rockingham can probably explore how to improve on our short term accommodation. We attract a lot of day trippers (to Rockingham) but lack short term accommodation." Conversely, he said KK may learn from Rockingham how to integrate nearly 4,000 naval personnel into its community, since a large Malaysian naval presence is expected in Sepanggar Bay 5 to 10 years from now.
The Sterling Naval base on an island off Rockingham is home to about 70pc of the Royal Australian Navy.
Sammels said the 'friendship city pact' sprang from official and industry interests looking for opportunities in all sorts of areas, citing the many similarities in terms of time zone, close geographic proximity and naval base development.
Sammels said Rockingham is 110 years old and became a city in 1998, two years before KK did. "We have grown and developed and becoming more and more multi-cultural with the newcomers ranging from South Africans to New Zealanders and Zimbabweans.
"We have Malaysians. I wouldn't say a lot but the more I am getting involved in this friendship relations, the more Malaysians I am meeting that own properties in Perth and some have settled in Rockingham as well."
He said the Rockingham people profile is that of 32-year-olds on average, i.e. young families who see opportunities in employment with a good lifestyle and at a reasonable price.
Rockingham has been experiencing 6pc growth for several years and he expects property demand to rise even more considering that Perth had already overtaken Sydney in property values.
Another attraction besides proximity to Perth is the tendency for Australians to live closer to the coast and industries.
Meanwhile, Justin Smith said the Rockingham side had been helping out with the navy in terms of "wise management" and a few other areas, since the signing of the friendship city pact. The Chamber certainly welcomes more opportunities for trade for its members, both large and small, he said.
Varghese Jacob said the "friendship city agreement" is a "platform" which the Western Australian Trade Office is supporting "so that businesses underneath can flow."
"Basically, we are interested to promote trade and investment from Western Australia and we have 14 such overseas services throughout the world especially in Asia such as China, Indonesia, Thailand, Dubai, UK, Los Angeles," he said.

From overseas: Indonesian dancers performing a traditional dance.
Fireworks lighted the skies on Feb 1 as Kota Kinabalu folk celebrated the seventh anniversary of the state capital’s city status.
The 15-minute pyrotechnic display brought cheers and applause from the 10,000 crowd that included Sabah Yang DiPertua Negri Tun Ahamadshah Abdullah and Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman.
The event and festivities were held at the seaside Promenade Boulevard.
The evening’s programme got underway with a parade of colourfully lighted floats from various departments including Sabah Railways, Yayasan Sabah, City Hall and various shopping centres.
Among the highlights of the evening were performances by international cultural troupes from Australia, South Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea and China as well as a group from the Kuching North City Hall.
The entertainment continued with the Punjabi Bhangra cultural folk dance troupe from Kuala Lumpur and this was followed by performances by local artistes including singers Rohayu Baharudin and Mohd Firdauz Abd Halim.
Also making an appearance was guitar virtuoso Roger Wang, Atama, Anthony Chong, Melanie Abd Rani, Abu Bakar Ellah, Joanne Henley Rampas and Peter Dicky Lee.
The evening was capped by a march-past bearing the Kota Kinabalu City flag which was then raised and this was followed by a fireworks display.
Other events held as part of the City Day festivities included a batik exhibition at the Centre Point shopping centre.

More top brands coming to Sabah
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is set to become "The Consumer World of Malaysia" within the next five years.
Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat, said once the expansion of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) and the other mega developments including shopping malls are completed, the State will be "the place" in the country where all the action is going to take place. He urged top and international brand name companies to seize the opportunity and set up their respective bases, particularly in Kota Kinabalu.
"Over the last six months, a lot of top and international brand names that have all this while been stationed in Kuala Lumpur have already come in aggressively and set up their respective bases in Kota Kinabalu because they see the great potential of Sabah," he said.
Chong said Sabah is not only "the" destination for local and foreign tourists but also located strategically within the centre of the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines East Asian Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) region. "KKIA is now the second busiest and having the most direct international flights after Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)," said Chong, who is also Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, confident that these will increase further through AirAsia.
Presently, KKIA caters to weekly and daily direct flights between Japan's Narita-Kota Kinabalu and Osaka-Kota Kinabalu; Taiwan's Taipei-Kota Kinabalu and Kaoshiong-Kota Kinabalu; South Korea Seoul-Kota Kinabalu; Hong Kong-Kota Kinabalu; Philippines' Manila- Kota Kinabalu and Cebu-Kota Kinabalu; Thailand Bangkok- Kota Kinabalu; Singapore-Kota Kinabalu; and so on.
Stating that this is among the main contributors to the increasing number of visitors to Sabah, Chong said the number has risen from only 442,000 visitors (162,000 from peninsula) about 10 years ago to two million visitors till November last year.
About 1.1 million of those who came to Sabah in the first 11 months of last year were from the peninsula and Sarawak, he said, expecting the figure to increase further during this Visit Malaysia Year (VMY).
"So just imagine the great potential for those big and international companies to come in and have their respective bases set up in Sabah, particularly in Kota Kinabalu," he said at the launching of the Olympus Malaysia Sdn Bhd's 'The Olympus East Malaysia New Product Tour 2007' at Sutera Pacific Hotel here Tuesday.
Also present were Olympus (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Tan Tick Boon, and its Assistant General Manager of Imaging System Division, Yong Kee Nyap, among others.
Chong, who is an Olympus camera user himself, also asked Olympus (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, being a international brand name, not to miss the golden opportunity and set up their base in Sabah.
Meanwhile, he said expansion works on KKIA's Terminal 1 are currently progressing according to schedule. Terminal Two, which was recently upgraded is already operational.
Chong said they are still working on reactivating the direct flights between Australia and Sabah.
"We hope we will have more direct flights not just with Australia but other places within the Asia Pacific region É we hope for more direct flights to come in from China," he said, assuring there will be more direct flights once the expansion works at Terminal 1 are completed within these two years. "This is going to be interesting. And what is more exciting is that within the next five years, once all the shopping mall developments in the city have completed, we are going to sell to the world not only eco-tourism but also a shopping paradise," said Chong.
He is also confident that once all these are already in place, even tourists from India and as far as Middle East countries will be coming to the State.

Bones for July display
http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/upload/080207la.jpg
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Museum plans to get the 68ft Bryde's whale skeleton up for exhibition this June or July by the latest, its Director Datuk Joseph Guntavid, told Daily Express.
"And we will put it where it is most visible to visitors - the foyer," Guntavid said. The full skeleton will fit in just nicely into the 80ft long foyer where it will be mounted chest-high, he said. The giant Bryde's whale stunned all in Sabah when it beached on a shallow reef at Gaya Bay opposite Kota Kinabalu on 15 December 2006 and returned to die at the same spot two days later, despite being successfully re-floated.
The Fisheries Department quickly towed the carcass out to the South China Sea on 17 December for disposal. However, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman ordered it to be towed back after the public clamoured for its bones to be preserved as rarely has Sabah been visited by Earth's largest creature. Top Sabah Fisheries officials including its Director Rayner Stuel Galid his deputy Roonie Biusing and museum staff raced out to sea again to drag the carcass back and managed to extract the bones from the badly decomposed monster within a week by Christmas eve.
"It is a prime master piece which deserves a prime space in the Sabah Museum," Guntavid beamed. Once in place, it will be the biggest skeleton of a very rare whale anywhere in Malaysia.
"We feel very amazed by the features itself which I find very interesting. The weight is fantastic. The lower jawbone (16' 4" long ) for instance is so heavy even six people can't lift it. The only way to shift the skull is to lift it with a chain pulley. Everything about it generates a feeling of awe," enthused Guntavid who is certain the massive exhibit would attract flocks of tourists.
Guntavid also said the museum was committed to conserve the "original" colours and textures of the bones and not artificially whiten it with chemicals, to ensure the outcome would be a true museum piece. By the time the cleaning and preservation process are completed, the bones will be "yellowish white," he said.
"We prefer the original look since it is more authentic," assured Guntavid after some members of the public expressed fears that the viewing as well as the intrinsic value of the skeleton may degraded if it were excessively whitened and which would give it a "plastic" feeling.
But there remains plenty of nitty gritty work to prepare the bones up to display standards as not all the bones are out.
"At least 10ft of the tail, the mid vertebral section and some rib bones are still buried at the Sabah Fisheries Department's Aqua Culture Development Centre in Menggatal," noted Albert Lo, the museum's chief taxidermist.
They'll probably be dug out for cleaning after Chinese new year. Oily vertebral discs and stubborn tendons proved quite a task to clean up. Reflecting on the whale saga, Guntavid said the Sabah Museum was immediately interested in securing the bones the moment he learnt the whale had died.
"It is actually part of museum's responsibility to get anything of public interest."
Rayner Stuel Galid, Director of Sabah Fisheries Department confirmed Guntavid called him early morning 17 December.
"Because it is of international interest, we wanted to exhibit it," he said.
"But since the Bryde's whale is listed as a protected species under CITES ( Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species) and under the Sabah Wildlife Conservation Enactment, the regulations stipulate that we need a special licence (from the department) to secure custody of the bones," Guntavid explained of some of the formalities.
And because of the "good relationships" between the Sabah Museum and the Department of Wildlife, the formalities were done with little hassle.

Tune Hotels to open five hotels in M'sia
Kuala Lumpur: Tune Hotels Sdn Bhd, operator of no-frills hotels linked to AirAsia's founder, Datuk Tony Fernandes will open five hotels in Malaysia next month.
Three hotels will be in Kuala Lumpur while one will be in Kota Kinabalu and another in Penang.
One of the hotels in Kuala Lumpur, to be located at the intersection of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, would be the flagship hotel.
"We will start selling rooms online from March 1 onwards. Official launching will be on March 28," said its director, Dennis Melka.
Average room rate for the hotels will be RM55 per night.
Melka said that Tune Hotel's first venture outside Malaysia will be in Bali which is targeted early next year.
It was reported that AirAsia Bhd's chief executive officer Fernandes, along with shareholders Datuk Kalimullah Hassan, Dennis Melka and Lim Kian Onn, among others, had incorporated Tune Hotels last December with a paid-up capital of RM5.2 million.
Tune Ventures Sdn Bhd owns 55.8 percent of Tune Hotels. It is understood that Fernandes, along with AirAsia's deputy group chief executive officer Kamarudin Meranum and other partners, are the shareholders of Tune Ventures.
Tune Ventures also has another portfolio company Tune Money.Com. The second-largest shareholder of Tune Hotels is Tune Hotels.Com (BVI) Ltd, with 17 percent, while Kalimullah and Lim own 12.5 percent each.
"I think Tune Hotel is moving very very well. It complements AirAsia very well," said Fernandes. - Bernama

Susun strategi perkenal Sabah syurga beli-belah

supercity...i hope the term is suitable, if all of the 15 nos. new shopping malls can be fully utilised. isn't possible kk can become a shopping paradise in the next 5 year to attract the aisan people?? tourist form country like hong kong, japan, korea, thailang, australia, indonesia, philipine, etc....
i spoke to few kk permanent residents, most of them are business man and business women.... they still wait and see....look see...look see....very conservative... wait until more than half to move in to those mall, then decide to joint...that the way they do business...kiasi...
Just to share my story....
I was suppose to open a cafe in warisan square and migrate to kk after CNY but cant i even confirm the deal with the landlord. why? because they are too conservative. they prefer somebody willing to rent the whole block of the shop with low rate. appeal and appeal...still cant get it...no choise keep looking for other potential lot...begging to the management people and they dare to ask 2 month commission base the rental rate. i was damn pissed off... i have to give up and concentrate my career in KL. maybe next 2 year.
i wish KK can become a supercity with a lot of commercial skycrappers, gorgeos shopping malls to attract foreign investor from all around the world, especailly citizen from west malaysia. but the tradision and culture have to be changed, otherwise kk will just become a colony...
i am sorry if i offence anybody here... i am just too desprate to fall in love in this land - land below the wind.

MAXIS launches 3G service in Kota Kinabalu
http://www.newsabahtimes.com.my/mediafiles/picture/1420/maxis.jpg?1170993814
LATEST FROM MAXIS... Tan (centre), Yap (right) and Mayank showing reporters the capabilities of the MAXIS3G on their handphones.
9th February, 2007
KOTA KINABALU: Maxis Communications Berhad (MAXIS) yesterday launched its 3G or third generation mobile telephone technology in Kota Kinabalu.
Subscribers of the MAXIS3G can have access to the service as long as they are within the city zone which extends from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) right up to the Sabah Foundation building.
MAXIS Senior General Manager and Head of Consumer Marketing, Tan Lay Han said: “We are confident that 3G will be well accepted here as a new communications tool.”
Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at a hotel near here yesterday he added that they hoped to expand this coverage to areas beyond the city but did not elaborate as to when that would take place.
Tan commented that the company decided to widen its 3G service to Sabah because it believed the state capital had a strong business community that would embrace the technology.
Furthermore, he said the MAXIS3G would be convenient for tourists visiting the state during Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
“For the businessman, this would mean easy connection to the internet and emails via laptops or phone.
For the casual traveller, the 3G service will allow them to communicate with their loved ones through video calls,” he said.
MAXIS3G will also be launched in Kuching, Sarawak by this year, he said.
According to Tay there are presently about a quarter of a million MAXIS3G subscribers in the country.
3G allows callers to talk face-to-face via video calls and enjoy a wide variety of video services so that the user can watch television and even link up to a CCTV (Closed Circuit Television).
At mobile broadband speed, 3G is six times faster than GPRS and three times faster than EDGE so that video calls and downloading of information and multimedia services, email, instant messaging are transferred at greater speed.
MAXIS3G also offers comprehensive live entertainment and information on MAXISTV, which carries more than 20 popular TV channels and radio covering news, sports and entertainment.
Among the leading channels on MAXISTV are CNN, CNBC, BBC and Bloomberg. In addition to these, it also features popular European football clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona, and even programmes such as the Cartoon Network.
Also present during the conference were MAXIS Head of Mobile TV and New Services, Mayank Thakkar and Head of Region (Sabah), Yap Kok Leong.

I go to KK very often. You don't have to be in Warisan Square only. There are other malls where the customer profile have the same purchasing power.

I would like to think that the car lift offered at 1 Borneo will be much better than that shown on the photo. I have used several 'car lifts' in Singapore and in UK. They look (both internally and externally) exactly like a passenger lift except much bigger and that the lift is automated.
Car lifts are usually used for areas where there isn't sufficient space to build ramps for multi storey car park.
What is shown in the phot is more of a Parking Car Lift where cars can be stacked multi layers within one parking space.....

Sumpah.... dah pergi Sabah... duduk kat KK 4 malam. Dari KK kitorang naik pajero melalui Tuaran, jambatan Tamparuli, sampailah ke TamanNegara Kinabalu, lepas tu ikut jalan sempit sehingga Pondok Timpohon.
Dalam perjalanan pulang pulak kitorang singgah kat Kundasang makan tengahari. Banyaknye lalat !! Bukan lalat-lalat kurus macam kat semenanjung ni, tapi Lalat gendut ! Tapi goreng pisang kat situ sedapppp teramat ... pemandangan kat Kundasang sebijik macam kat Switzerland !
Eh, nape die pergi tukar nama jadi Menara Tun Mustapha pulak ? Dah elok-elok Bangunan Yayasan Sabah tu..

F&N Coca-Cola mulls new KK plant
By Alfean Hardy
Email us your feedback at fd@bizedge.com
F&N Coca-Cola (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is looking into setting up a plant in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, within the next three years towards growing its East Malaysia presence, its managing director James Teo said.
“We are currently studying the feasibility of setting up a new plant in Kota Kinabalu and should complete the study by year-end.
“It could take up to two years after that to commercialisation,” Teo told reporters at an F&N Coca-Cola's corporate social responsibility event in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 14.
F&N Coca-Cola, which is a subsidiary of Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, now has two plants in Kuching, Sarawak.
It also has a carbonated soft drinks plant, its largest, in Shah Alam, Selangor, and a mineral water plant in Bentong, Pahang.
“It’s for efficiency. We are spending a lot on transportation to move our products from our Kuching plants. We also want to be closer to the market that we are operating in,” he added.
Teo said despite having a 70% market share in the carbonated soft drinks and energy drinks market nationwide, it was keen to grow its East Malaysia carbonated soft drinks market.
“We are also not a leader in the Asian drinks segment nationwide but we are making gains there as well with our Seasons brand. Also, we have a total portfolio of products. This is something our rivals do not have,” he added.
Teo said F&N Coca-Cola would also be launching new energy and juice drinks this year to meet changing demands.
He added that it has no plans to increase prices. “As a FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) company, it’s never in our interest to raise prices.”

Mayor: Facelift for Kg Air soon
http://www.newsabahtimes.com.my/mediafiles/picture/1490/p13a.jpg?1172201763
23rd February, 2007
KOTA KINABALU: Plans are afoot to beautify Kg. Air and turning it into a major tourist attraction this year, Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim announced yesterday.
He said the Proposed Development for Kg. Air will include repairing and upgrading existing public amenities especially replacing broken slabs along pavements and dilapidated benches.
It will have a colourful landscape dotted with shady trees, added lighting, more parking bays and an overall aesthetically pleasing design.
Iliyas said the development would also benefit the business community in Kg. Air particularly the hawkers operating at the night market.
He apologised for the delay in upgrading Kg Air saying that the City Hall had already planned to undertake the project a year ago but was unable to do so due to the lack of funds.
“I take full blame for the delay in implementing the project,” said Iliyas in response to complaints from unhappy hawkers at Kg. Air.
Among others, the hawkers expressed their dissatisfaction over the poor condition of public amenities in the area and urged Kota Kinabalu member of parliament and Api-Api assemblyman, Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai to improve the area.
“We have included the project in our budget for this year and will implement it soon,” Iliyas explained adding that once completed Kg. Air will be another attraction in the city.

That's because the city itself is very close to the flight path of airport. The airport is quite close to town. Only 5-10 minutes away? I think there is actually a rule that prevents any building from being higher than 12-stories in the city proper.

If you've noticed the permissible height gets lower the closer you get to the flight path and higher away from it. I'm not sure how many stories Gaya Centre has but I would bet it's not too far from the 12-stories guideline.

Seven devt projects to uplift KK’s standards
28th February, 2007
KOTA KINABALU: The City Hall has planned seven development projects to uplift Kota Kinabalu’s standards on a par with cities in developed countries.
Mayor, Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim said he hopes the projects can be implemented this year. Some of the projects are:
1. Expanding the city centre that will involve implementing one-way streets, constructing the South Bus Terminal, cleaning and landscaping Sembulan River;
2. Improving the surroundings of Kg Air Tanjung Aru for tourism;
3. Re-development of Kg Air Sembulan which is currently in the final stages of planning;
4. Developing the Likas Bay Recreation Centre that will be subsidised by the National Landscape Department;
5. Eradicating squatter settlements under the Pulau Gaya Resettlement Programme and Squatter Relocation Programme;
6. Improving the drainage system and landscape in the city and adding more lights in critical areas;
7. Ongoing landscaping work along main roads, Jalan Protocol and the roads leading to the Kota Kinabalu International Airport and city centre.
Iliyas said work to improve facilities and beautify open areas last year will continue in Sedco Square or Seri Selera Kg Air as well as at the Kg Air night market.
The City Hall will also intensify efforts to enforce by-laws on littering, parking and hygiene as well as review and amend any regulations deemed obsolete.
He assured that security issues would still take priority and that the police are working closely with the City Hall to keep Kota Kinabalu safe.
However, he admits that with revenue still dependent largely on traditional sources such as collection of rates, licences and sewage disposal charges, it was hopeful of more funding from the state government.
Iliyas said the City Hall would therefore diversify its sources of revenue through investment in real estate and seek new sources.

Datuk Ahmad Ali Lope Abd. Aziz (seated left) and President of RCC, Sanguanchai Tanvetyanont (seated right) signing the MOU for business agreement witnessed by Illiyas and Swasdipanich
5th March, 2007
RATCHABURI PROVINCE, Thailand: City Hall has taken another step in its role in promoting urban tourism with the signing of a Memorandum of Friendship Understanding (MOFU) with Ratchaburi Provincial Hall (RPH).
The signing ceremony between the Mayor of Kota Kinabalu Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim and the Governor of Ratchaburi Province, Dr. Vongsak Swasdipanich took place last Saturday, at the Golden City Hotel in Muang, here.
Widely reported by the local print of media and electronic in the Kingdom of Thailand, the ceremony also witnessed the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement between the Sabah Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce (SBCC) and Ratchaburi Chamber of Commerce (RCC).
The said MOU was signed between the President of SBCC, Datuk Ahmad Ali Lope Abd. Aziz and President of RCC, Sanguanchai Tanvetyanont, and witnessed by Illiyas and Swasdipanich, as well as officials from KKCH, RPH, SBCC and RCC.
Among others, the implementation of the MOUs understanding among requires each party to execute their responsibilities to encourage and promote cooperation in areas of Local Government policies, procedures, systems and general activities, as well as tourism promotion, cultural and trade exchanges.
In his address after the signing ceremony, Illiyas said the signing of the agreements marked another milestone for City Hall following the very encouraging outcome in terms of cultural, education and business exchanges from its friendship city relations with Yongin City, South Korea and the City of Rockingham, Western Australia.
Thanking Swasdipanich for initiating the MOUs, he said Kota Kinabalu being the gateway to Sabah, plays a critical role in promoting urban tourism.
“One of the strategies to achieve this is to establish friendship with other cities so that tourists who come to the City can be facilitated and encouraged through Government-to-Government efforts.”
“This is a deliberate effort of both Cities’ members to direct the flow of its community tourism activity to our preferred destinations,” he explained.
As a local Government, he added that City Hall has a role to play in gaining popularity in the world scene, as a preferred destination apart from promotions from brochures, advertisements and websites by the State Government and other tourism industry players.
“Every year we have a number of exciting events taking place in Kota Kinabalu. Through this friendship established, City Hall is also promoting its own annual events such as the “Tadau Kaamatan”, Chinese New Year Carnival, Christmas Carnival, Hari Raya celebration, Independence Day and other cultural events reflecting its multi-racial community,” said Illiyas.
He was also confident that the friendship could lead to educational cultural exchanges through its yearly “City Kids” program in terms of students’ exchange program at various levels of primary, secondary and university education.
The City Kids exchange programs would be a good platform for students to learn from a young age to respect other people’s culture.
In terms of industry trade and industry, Illiyas expressed his hope that the SBCC can spearhead continuous discussions and implementations of programs between Kota Kinabalu and Ratchaburi.
Illiyas said as an emerging city, Kota Kinabalu can learn from established cities for example from the transformation of the traditional Bangkok City and the industrial Ratchaburi Province to emerge as preferred tourists’ destinations.
Pursuant to the agreement, Ratchaburi Province Governor, Swasdipanich announced his plans to set up a travel agency in Kota Kinabalu in the very near future to promote tourism of Ratchaburi to Sabah and Vice-versa, also as his initial part in pursuing the agreement.
Recalling his inaugural visit to Sabah to last year, Swasdipanich said Ratchaburi Province with a population of 850,000 can learn a lot from Sabah, especially in the sectors of education, tourism, industrial and agriculture.
Ratchaburi Province is located in the lower western part of Thailand, about 100 kilometers away by land from the capital City of Bangkok.
The Province is renowned for its health tourism, floating market, and more than 100 industries in herbal cosmetics, Thai traditional medicine, hand made candles and potteries amongst others.
Meanwhile, on the MOU between signed SBCC and RCC, Ahmad Ali expressed his confidence that the agreement would further strengthen the development of commercial and industrial activities between them.
He said the agreement would facilitate and promote the exchange of business delegations and specialist, particularly those seeking to expand economic, trade, investment, technical and scientific co-operations between the two countries.
Iliyas who was accompanied by his Deputy-Director General (Corporate), Wan Maria Othman Lee, KKCH Board of Advisor, Datuk Uzair Yahya, and several businessmen from Sabah, was also Guest of Honour at the Opening Ceremony of Ratchaburi Red Cross 2007 on Friday, an annual event organised by the Ratchaburi Red Cross presided by the wife of the Governor, Vilaiporn Swadipanich.
The Sabah delegation was also given a guided tour to places of places of interests in Ratchaburi Province including the famous Damnoensaduak Floating Market, PMK Central Glass Factory, Chengteh Chinaware Ceramic factory and SPH Farm.

Seven major projects to improve Kota Kinabalu
Wednesday March 7, 2007
TheStar
KOTA KINABALU: Seven key development projects to improve, beautify and enhance public amenities have been earmarked for Kota Kinabalu City this year.
Mayor Datuk Iliyas Ibrahim said the plans were in line with the city's objective of becoming a fullfledged nature resort city.
The immediate projects on the cards are the Kota Kinabalu Expansion Project that will involve the creation of one-way streets, setting up of the southbound bus terminal, and cleaning and landscaping of the Sembulan River.
He said the city would also enhance the surroundings of the old Kampung Air town area as well as Tanjung Aru to promote tourism.
Iliyas said that they also planned to redevelop the Kampung Air area in Sembulan and develop the Likas Bay Recreational Centre with funding from the National Landscape Department.
Other points of development was for restructuring the Pulau Gaya settlement programme and the resettlement of squatters within the city, he said at a ceremony to announce the appointment of the nine-member City Hall advisory board for a threeyear term. The mayor said that they have also been working on strategies to strengthen security in the city by providing additional enforcement personnel as well as working with other agencies to make the city a safer place to stay and visit.

All-year-round ice skating rink in KK soon
Kota Kinabalu: AC Property Development Sdn Bhd will introduce all-year-round ice skating at its Kompleks Asia City, here, soon.
The developer of the Asia City Urban Development Project will be opening a 378 square metre (4,116 square feet) Smart Ice Skating Rink - Malaysia's largest and East Malaysia's first - on the fourth floor of the newly-opened shopping complex.
The total area of this skating arena, to be installed by a Swiss-based rink manufacturer, Smart Ice Sdn Bhd, using its Smart Ice Arena technology, would be 13,000 square feet. Work is expected to be completed by the end of April this year in time for the complex's official opening on May 5.
Announcing this during a press conference held at the AC Property Development Sdn Bhd's office at Asia City here Tuesday, its Chairman/Managing Director Dr Ting Ing Chiew said they were spending close to RM1.5 million on this project.
"The Smart Ice Skating Rink would be in line with the concept of Kompleks Asia City that prioritises good family entertainmentÉthis is a form of family entertainment where parents can either enjoy with their children, or watch them from the side of the arena, or while they are doing their shopping," he said.
Saying the complex management will provide facilities for parents or guardians to sit near the arena and enjoy quality time watching the children having fun in the arena, he hoped this would provide for another choice for youngsters in Sabah to have fun in a healthy way, rather than just playing video games and so on.
Dr Ting said the interesting thing about this Smart Ice Skating Rink is that it would be the first Smart Ice Arena in the country to remain open permanently (stay operational throughout the year) and self-operated, unlike arenas at the shopping malls in the peninsula which are the mobile version.
The mobile version of Smart Ice Arena, which all are smaller in size, are opened only for certain periods, for instance three months, and would be opened at a rented section of a shopping mall and for the next three months it would be closed.
Once completed, the Smart Ice Skating Rink at Kompleks Asia City will be able to accommodate up to 130 people at a time.
Also present were Smart Ice Arena's Regional Manager for Asia Pacific, Filippo Gervasini, AC Property Development Secretary-Director, Song Chee Yee, and Kompleks Asia City's General Manager, Vincent C.P. Ng, among others.
The Smart Ice Arena, which is popular especially among youngsters in the peninsula, is a revolutionary system that simulates the characteristics of real ice but allows customers enjoy the same pleasure of ice-skating called 3S (Smart Skating System) that combines the features of both ice-skates and roller skates and is user-friendly.
It is the result of over 30 years of experience in the research and development of new materials, combined with 20 years of expertise in the management of traditional and artificial ice skating rinks.
To date, Smart Ice Arena has appeared more than 100 times across 16 countries, with rink sizes ranging from 700 to 10,000 square feet, both indoor and outdoor. Its mobile version has also appeared in Mid Valley Mega Mall (KL), Berjaya Times Square (KL), Era Square (Seremban), SACC Mall (Shah Alam), The Mines Shopping Fair (Seri Kembangan) and currently in Bangsar Shopping Centre (KL).
Established in 2005 with its regional headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Smart Ice Sdn Bhd is an Italian-Swiss-Malaysian joint venture. Smart Ice Arena was first introduced in this country on March 8 last year.

Tg Aru's new-look water village
http://www.dailyexpress.com.my/upload/080307la.jpg
Kota Kinabalu: Upgrading of the Tanjung Aru water village in one of the city's prime tourism zones will see improvement to infrastructure as well as inclusion of tourism components. The work totalling RM48 million began two months ago.
City Hall Director of Engineering Department, Ir. Lee Tet Fon, said the project has been divided into three phases.
The first phase (Phase 1A) would include upgrading the access road, the catwalk, the basic infrastructures and the tourism features in the proposed development estimated to cost about RM10 million.
On completion, he said there would be a proper sewage system connected to individual lots and a proper disposal system in place to collect domestic waste.
The Federal Tourism Ministry had appointed consultants to design and plan as well as supervise the project, while City Hall was recently appointed as the implementing agency and the State Federal Development Department (JPPS) as the coordinating agency for the overall project.
The first phase involves 73 out of the 110 acres of the overall area in the Tanjung Aru water village involving about 235 houses and 1,175 occupants.
It would be divided into two stages with the first involving the preparation of detailed plans such as the survey plan, structures plan including sea retaining wall for the catwalk, small jetties, steps and parking lots as well as infrastructure plan for water pipe networks, sewage, electricity, telephones, individual and public toilets as well as treatment plant.
Under the second stage all these plans would be implemented such as repairing of the public catwalk network with suitable and attractive building materials to retain the original characteristic of the water village.
It would also involve improvement of the surroundings at every entry point, apart from providing a sewerage treatment plant to cater to the whole water village there.
The implementation of the second stage is estimated to cost RM8.9 million.
Based on the work scope, the project is expected to take about 19 months, followed by post construction maintenance by City Hall for one year and funded by the contractor.
Lee said the proposal to provide a proper sewerage system in the water village colony especially in Tanjung Aru, had been discussed and planned since MPKK (municipal council) time but was postponed due to insufficient funding and to sustain maintenance.
As temporary measures to make the area more conducive several gotong royongs had been organised by City Hall with NGOs to clean up the area.
"In fact every year, City Hall allocated funds to maintain the timber catwalk. We have also appealed to the Government for financial assistance yearly," he said.
Finally, in early 2003, the Federal Tourism Ministry informed City Hall that financial assistance to gradually upgrade the whole water village had been included in its budget.
"It was also decided to include components of tourism features so that the residents in future can become part of the stakeholders to sustain the tourism industry and are expected to play their roles in maintaining the system," he said.
"If this redevelopment is successful, there is a good chance that additional allocation will be given to continue to other phases.
The success of this scheme and the continuation will depend very much on the residents' cooperation.
"City Hall is appealing to the residents there to work with us to achieve the objectives," he said.

City Pioneers narrate KK's history
Kota Kinabalu: The story of its early days can be the most precious thing a city can record for future generations.
Kota Kinabalu City, which just celebrated its seventh anniversary last month, was Thursday given a treat when National Archives Sabah and City Hall for the first time brought together three of its founding fathers.
Some 1,000 people packed the Dewan Saadiah of the Haj Fund Complex to listen to the narration of the history of Kota Kinabalu by Datuk Kamaruddin Lingam, the first President of the Kota Kinabalu Municipal Council, Datuk Abdul Ghani Abdul Rashid, Kota Kinabalu's first Mayor and Prof. Francis Wong Yit Shing, the Sabah Government's architect responsible for the city's early scenery.
In his speech, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat, said as administrators the three men had respective development agendas and vision to ensure Kota Kinabalu (KK) residents lived comfortably and peacefully.
"Their roles and contributions were tremendous and I am sure the three of them are willing to share their experience and the challenges they were faced with while administrating KK, especially with the problems of pollution and littering," said Chong.
According to him, littering is a serious issue to tackle, which not only dirties a place but also damages the image of the city, State as well as the country and urged everyone to combine forces to keep the city clean.
Meanwhile, National Archives Director-General, Mohamed Zawawi Abdullah, said his organisation has been organising historical narration since 1984, covering various scopes and topics.
"Historical narration is an oral technique to relay historical information by historical figures directly or indirectly involved in a historical event and this retelling is recorded in audio and video form to be kept by the Archives and made available to researchers as reference," he said, adding records pertaining to Kota Kinabalu are still incomplete.
Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton, became the administrative centre when the colony of the North Borneo Chartered Company was formed.
Located in the West Coast Division, the colony was ruled by a Governor and assisted by a Government Secretary and 60 other public service members.
The Constitution and Administration of North Borneo were implemented on June 10, 1946 through the "Letters of Patent" which put Jesselton under the governance of a Governor or a Colonial Officer of North Borneo and the daily administration was run by 29 departments which were responsible to the General Director and Chief Secretary.
The formation of the Sanitary Board under the "North Borneo Sanitary Ordinance 1931" saw the establishment of Jesselton and the board members were appointed by the Governor and chaired by the District Officer.
The board had no control over financial matters but had the right to enact local laws involving buildings, water supply, traffic control and others.
The Jesselton District Council was founded in 1958 and was responsible for the administration of the area outside the territory of the Jesselton Town Board.
On Jan 1, 1958, a consensus was reached that the Chairman and all other members must be non-government personnel, so a West Coast Resident was appointed as the Chairman of Jesselton Town Board while the District Officer was appointed as the Secretary.
Until Aug 31, 1963, North Borneo was governed under the North Borneo Letters of Patent and later Sabah joined the formation of Malaysia on Sept 16, 1963.
On Sept 30, 1976, the historical name of Jesselton was changed to Kota Kinabalu and the Jesselton Town Board changed its name to Kota Kinabalu Municipal Board.
The Municipal Board was upgraded to Kota Kinabalu Municipal Council on Jan 1, 1979 and on Feb 2, 2000, the Municipal Council became Kota Kinabalu City Hall.

Dragonair to bring HK, China tourists daily from April
ARRIVALS from Hong Kong and China are expected to rise by 20 per cent when Hong Kong-based airline Dragonair increases its flight frequency to Kota Kinabalu from four days weekly to daily starting next month.
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Tan Sri Chong described Dragonair's decision as important, which would assist not only in boosting arrivals from HK and mainland China but also in capturing the Europe and American markets.
Last year, he said Sabah received nearly 30,000 arrivals from Hong Kong and more than 32,000 from China.
"So with the daily flights connecting Hong Kong to KK, we can easily increase this by 20 per cent," he said.
Dragonair's new service schedule would commence April 2.
"It is very good. I am very happyÉit is special because Sabah was Dragonair's first international destination (in 1985) and today it is coming to Sabah daily on a wide-bodied aircraft, which makes it viable in bringing in more people to come," he said.
The move was also important, said Chong, since it would make it easier to promote Sabah to American and European tourists with Hong Kong being an international hub.
He said Hong Kong would act as the gateway and Dragonair as the facilitator for tourists from America and Europe to come to Sabah. As part of the Cathay Pacific Group, Dragonair has seamless connectivity for passengers to over 100 cities around the globe.
Equally important, he said, was the China market since Dragonair with its fleet of 28 passenger aircraft flies to 30 regional destinations, including 21 cities in the China mainland.
In this respect, Chong said it would be easy to promote Sabah to China tourists who would only have to take short transit to Hong Kong before making their way here.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Dragonair presented the top agent awards for 2006 in Sabah during its annual agency dinner at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu here.
The top five agents were Kota Kinabalu-based Popular Express Travel Sdn Bhd, Beautiful Holidays Sdn Bhd, Multiclients Travel Sdn Bhd, Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd and Sandakan-based Antara Travel and Tours (M) Sdn Bhd.

I dont know that KK sea water is so clean:eek:
It's like the east coast of Peninsular. West coast of Peninsular is pretty sad except north towards Langkawi area. But between Sabah's west and east coasts, east coast is better ... it's best towards Semporna IMO.
