There's always bribery, but the City of Miami wouldn't have the guts to pass a moratorium. In the end it would only come back and bite the city in the ass. Back in the early 80's the same thing was being said in the Brickell area and look at it now.

Yeah, I don't think it will ever happen. Miami has too much of an ego problem to stop development. I don't think there are many people in Miami who desire it to be a humble and lowkey destination. There are plenty of other places in Florida to go to if that is what you want.

It would sure suck for all those construction workers who would lose their jobs for 18 months.

Commissioner Regelado's district is along the Coral Way corridor west of 17th Ave, north of US-1 which is seeing a lot of 15-20 story buildings going up abutting single family houses.

it wont happen because regaldo is probably the commisioner with the least SAY on the board,if it were commisioner winton then yeah i would be afraid,he was then one who singlehandedly stopped all new projects in the upper eastside after 36th st.

but what i do expect the board to do is to try and create a quick fix until miami 21 comes into effect, maybe a new regulation like what was done in the uppereastside ,where they created an sd-9 with a special limit for density and an overall height limit of 95feet not counting mechanical and rooftop ornamentation

fuck this guy. But, now that I think about it... YES! Great idea. Let's save the neighborhoods... Yeah, all those houses off Brickell are really suffering. As are the houses and neighborhoods near Biscayne Blvd. AND, all the houses near Dadeland Mall.

Man, and I thought NIMBYS only existed in Orlando. Lets save some crappy old neighborhoods and keep world class development from coming here. great idea. Lets keep Florida one big dumpwater state.

An 18 month moratorium will kill every one of these projects that haven'r broken ground yet. This guy needs to be stopped. They're lucky I don't work for the CIA, or I would haul his ass to Gitmo- forever.

Maybe it would be easier on this commissioner if he just took an 18 month vacation.

"We feel that is a smoke screen of what they have been doing during the last couple of years," Mann said. "We don't want high-rises to take away our breeze."

But Regalado's suggestion has fallen on deaf ears at City Hall, where other commissioners say a moratorium on construction would hinder progress.Opposing his view is Commissioner Angel Gonzalez, who represents the long-neglected Flagami and Allapattah neighborhoods. Developers there are building 10,000 condominiums and about 130,000 square feet of new retail space

"My district and District 5 were neglected for years, while the rest of the city was getting new roads, jobs and buildings," Gonzalez said. "We were denied those things."

Diaz, who also opposes a moratorium, said halting current projects could force investors to take their money elsewhere. That would be devastating to Miami, which despite the development remains one of the nation's poorest cities.

Miami has too much of an ego problem to stop development. I don't think there are many people in Miami who desire it to be a humble and lowkey destination. There are plenty of other places in Florida to go to if that is what you want. Why does having a big ego have to be a problem? Here is to success and progress!
All are welcome to come along for the ride!

Chuck, but if it does happen, we're counting on you to transport illegal Mexican construction workers, to vacated construction sites, in the cover of darkness. We've got to keep the boom going at all costs ! :)

He wants his breeze... well, he's in the right state for that.

I'll give him his breeze... someone should stap him to the front of a Metromover car-- that'll give him a nice breeze
