It is a proposal for a new office tower on James Street North at the Hamilton Port Authority administration office. The grey building on the right is the existing building. I think the proposal does a great job blending the old with the new. Looks to be about 10 floors.
The port has plans for a nice restaurant on the top floor with a panoramic view of the harbour and downtown. They also plan a café and snack bar on the ground floor facing the water.
One of the main reasons Mayor Larry Di Ianni was in China was to convince big ports in China to locate their Canadian offices in this proposed building.

thats horrible!
why on earth would we want to fuck with a perfectly intact, well-kept, art-moderne building like that???? Especially when there are parking lots, and PLENTY of decrepid real estate in the city?
This is whats wrong with Hamilton. It's like anything nice has to be pissed on. When %85 percent of the lower city is ugly, and they decide to rework the remaining %15 thats perfectly fine, you have to wonder whats in the water thats making everyone here crazy.
PS... maybe thats not art-moderne, but its a damn nice international-style building. It's in great shape, it's still used.... why why why??

I think it's a good looking addition. The port authority needs more space and the city is hoping to get Chinese business in Hamilton to make investments in our ports.
It wouldn’t work right if the port authority built an additional building in the downtown. Needs to be next to the waterfront.
I think it blends in very well. Plus it's got rooftop restaurant! C'MON gotta like that.

^sorry, I'm a bit of a purist. I don't see why they need to play frankenstien with a perfectly fine building, when there are plenty of others in the area that are desperate for a makeover.
I can think of many brownfield sites immediately adjacent to the waterfront, and many derelict buildings as well. There's a pathetic plaza just kitty-korner to this site. God forbid they do anything to that, better keep the plaza and rip apart the building that an architect who actually gave-a-fuck designed. Talk about a parasitic vernacular....
Besides, what Chinese businessmen would want to set up shop in such a dismall area? Perhaps if the city had forsight enough to improve the built form in the neighbourhood, rather than do this sort of thing, they might have a leg to stand on.
Sorry about the rant...

If you want widespread environmental remediation and neighbourhood developments in the area then you should stand behind Hamilton's 2014 Commonwealth Games bid.
