BIRMINGHAM'S NEC may have lost the Motorshow but it is battling back with other car events.

The latest will be MHP'05, on November 10-13.

The decision to stage the event in Birmingham ahead of same event in London on November 17-20 has delighted NEC bosses.

Andrew Morris, The NEC Group chief executive, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming MPH'05.

"This is a really exhilarating show. It's innovative and interactive, presenting cars on the move and up close. "It's a great addition to our portfolio."

MHP'05 is an up-close display of over 100 prestige and performance cars - some of which have not been seen in this country before.

It's also a show which will feature the latest high-tech gadgets and accessories for cars as well as classics from the past six decades.

The ticket price also includes a place in the 5,000-seat auditorium to witness a 75-minute live theatrical performance of "maniacal motoring" presided over by Jeremy Clarkson and other celebrity presenters.

There are three shows each day and ticket prices start from £20.

Am I the only person who considers this a bitter pill to swallow? Nanjing carts off the engineering heart of the company to china, we get a token R&D site and 'niche' manufacturing. I prefer the AWM plans for the site - ten thousand new jobs over the next decade as I recall.

I dont feel the same way. The UK has enough jobs we dont need naufactuing per se but we do need an outlet for the undoubted brillance of nechanicla engineering in this country that outside of Fq teams i sgoign to waste.

Not that Rover has eveber exactly represented engineering brilliance.

Perhaps not.

In fairness, if Nanjing do - as proposed - develop a new range at Longbridge and keep production on site, its not a terrible thing to happen.

Sorry to be repeating myself here because I've said the same in the skybar rover thread, but if Nanjing are still employing anybody at Longbridge in 10/15 years time I'll be most surprised.

Seven months on and still Nanjing don't appear to have committed anything to Longbridge other than hazy proposals. Longbridge is ripe as a prime site redevelopment. If Nanjing are not going to keep their promises then they should give some suitable compensation to Birmingham CC & Rover employees and leave. Then perhaps someone else with better and firmer ideas could redevelop the area into a business/science/apprenticeship park.

Stop faffing about please!
