I love football stadium architecture and I think the main stand of Ibrox is the finest in the world. Designed in the 1920s by Archibald Leitch.

Do all the Archibalds in the world hail from Scotland?

The top picture is a real stunner, but I don't know how to make it bigger. They do not seem to make football stands like that any more, it would cost millions and millions in todays money to build that stand. Inside is the finest oak and marble money could by, crafted by the most skilled workers from The John Brown Shipyard, who built some of the worlds finest ships.

I think all Archibalds hail from Scotland, it is a name which crops up in Scotlands history way into the past.

Yep, that main stand is a belter from the outside - one of the most distingiushed in the world.

Im sure google has some bigger pictures that you could use - just be sure to save them as Jpeg files and NOT Bitmap files, as bitmaps take up much more memory and photohosting websites resize (make smaller) any pictures who's file size is too large.

I would try a search for you, but my hands may melt after typing the word Ib**x into google :):):jk:

Our Archie designed some ace grounds in his time. No wonder Ibrox is my second favourite ground (colour and all!) behind Goodison. :)

He designed Old Trafford back in 1914ish. Intially he planned for a 100,000 arena but due to a lack of funds, he had to stream line his design. . .to 60,000. 'Twas a complete bowl, and the best stadium in the world when it was finished.

Class man that Archibald Leitch.

It is (from the outside) easily the most impressive football stadium I've ever seen.

But ain't they replacing it?

No, Ibrox (to my knowledge) is not getting replaced - where did you here that?

The main stand is a grade 1 listed building. It can not be knocked down even if Rangers went bust.

Plans are being looked at to increase the stadiums capacity, but this stand will not be touched.

Ibrox is probably going to be increased by 4000 seats so it will hold just over 54000. Shame they wont take it back up to its old 120000 capacity!

This used to be the best facade in football until it was demolished in 2001

Ibrox is fantastic.
Aston Villa's was another good one. Pity they messed it up.
This is my favourite.

Ibrox main stand is wonderful, definately something of post-industrialism architecture such as the Bauhaus. Very similar to the AEG building. The red brick looks georgious

What's faceade - some kind of fizzy drink made out of faces?

It's a dyslexic poo.

I'm not sure they should have kept it, listed or not, it's not that great outside and inside it's lost the character it had, the real Leitch architecture is swamped by plastic and concrete.

The Bullens road at Everton is a shithole and despite having a new roof and seats installed, it's a better Leitch example than Ibrox and oozes personality.
