Poor old Riyadh is getting creamed. Keep in mind that those two skyscrapers in Riyadh and one of the most beautiful ones in the world. There are many skylines with mid-rises higher than Riyadh so I dont think this is fair.

lol the kingdom tower (tallest tower in Riyadh) is 302m tall and is only 40 floors? what gives? and that pyramid shaped building is like 267m, and is only 30 floors?!, hmmm i dont get it, anyways the city only has 28 high-rises, so thats not impressive although, those 2 towers are beautiful, and look cool in the middle of the city, city looses points for amount of scrapers, without those 2 towers it wouldnt even be a skyline really

I give it a 7/10 the pictures don't do justice to the city and two of the best skyscrapers around.

Too much construction going on in this oil-rich nation but what stands out obscenely are the two towers designed by famous British architects and which of course are owned by the saudi royals. One can't help but associate these as symbols of their overbearing power that cannot and must not be violated. My friends see it as two ends of a needle, broken and stuck in this sandy city. Some say that maybe its because they still have too much desert land in its periphery that the development is predominantly horizontal. Contrary to what people say, Riyadh is a vibrant city even if it still is bounded by its austere islamic tradition. Shopping malls abound and you can find every single brand that you see in the west. The culture here is saturated with a conundrum of palette from Starbucks to Armani. Culture plays a major part in shaping a city. Riyadh in its strict adherance to tradition is skeptic in adapting to what the rest of the world sees as 'the beautiful skyline.'

I dont know why people are under the impression that Riyadh only has two skyscrapers. Besides the Fasaliah Tower and the Kingdom Tower, there are other high rise buildings such as the 200m Riyadh TV Tower, 150m NCCI Tower, ?M King Faisal Foudation Twin Towers, ?m Riyadh Bank building, ?m Saudi Telecom Building, ?m Specialized Medical Center Building, and the ?M Riyadh Plaza Hotel building. These are all buildings well above 150m. Currently the 180m Anoud Tower is under construction, three more towers in the Olaya district, and the massive Ghadir Project (surely 300m). This is hell of a lot for a city where people dont live in apartments and where there is no demand or need for offices. On top of all that, there is plenty of empty land for horizontal development so skyscrapers are basically impractical, useless, and simply symbols in Riyadh.

Mainly because of the cool looking building and the few others that were shown on the other pics. But, the city looks really dull and unexciting to visit. From such a major and influential city in the middle east you think you would get so much more, but instead it's nothing but a total let down. I was expecting to be blown away because I thought it would look like a Dubai (or close), but everything just fell out of expectation. Hopefully the new projects improve the quality of the skyline, but for now the score above will stay.

Skyline will change daramatically, it just needs time. Poor People? I'm a Thai living in Riyadh, my experience with skylines and skyscrapers is I must say, a lot. Having lived in North America and Bangkok for 15 years of my life, I know what defines a good skyline. Riyadh, does not fit very well into that description with such contrasting elements in the heart of the city. The two great towers along with the TV Tower and the Riyadh Plaza Hotel in Batha are amongst the tallest in the city. There are only about 5-6 more buildings that range between 100-120, that includes the King Faisal Foundation Tower and the Al-Anoud Tower as well as the SABIC headquarters. Only 4 buildings you could say comprise the skyline in Riyadh because of its size, the Kingdom Tower, the Faisaliyah, the Anoud Tower and the King Faisal Foundation Tower can be seen from a distance. Riyadh however has a very unique touch to it. It has taken me almost 1 year and a half to realize that this city has that special somehting. The majority of buildings here are between 10-15 stories and are roughly 50-60m in height in the downtown area. There are as many 100sq.km of these buildings. Quite a big size. Although those who say Riyadh do have tall towers, its wrong. What this city has is surely density. An foundation for taller buildings in the future. I can see that within 10-15 years, Riyadh could self-proclaim itself to be a very skyline oriented city.
