Fordham Spire ~2010

Latoso July 26th, 2005, 11:55 PM Fordham Spire is indeed a beautiful skyscraper, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the Skyneedle. I too was an overly naïve and optomistic youth when this beauty was proposed and it captured my imagination. It's demise was the second most traumatic experience in my life. Second only to the infamous Bartman incident. At least with Fordham in the scope there now exists the possibility that one of these horrific episodes in my life will be put behind me.
P.S. What do you think the possibility/feasability is for the Skyneedle being revived?
spyguy July 26th, 2005, 11:58 PM Skyneedle for sure. Just a terrific building.
Azn_chi_boi July 27th, 2005, 12:07 AM Fordham.... so far...
Too bad "The Illinois" is 5,280ish feet... or I'll vote for that. The mile-high skyscraper dream (drawing made in 1956)

Frumie July 27th, 2005, 12:08 AM :poke: From a design vantage, I find the Skyneedle to be an overly telescoped Empire State Building.
Latoso July 27th, 2005, 12:10 AM Is it just me or does it seem that FLW's "Illinois" might have been a subtle inspiration for the Burj Dubai?
chicagogeorge July 27th, 2005, 12:16 AM I think this design is the best 2000 footer ever. The Skyneedle is also very nice.
Suburbanite July 27th, 2005, 02:29 AM It may just be the excitement of the new proposal talking but I think that Fordham is the best so far. I would have to say that "The Illinois" is my favorite unbuilt supertall overall though.
Jules July 27th, 2005, 02:51 AM I like the skyneedle, but that new building is incredible.
i_am_hydrogen July 27th, 2005, 03:02 AM 1) Fordham
2) Skyneedle
3) 7 S. Dearborn
I like the Fordham building slightly more than the Skyneedle. Although I'm attracted to the Skyneedle's boxiness, I don't care for its upper-half, which looks like a bad combination of Jin Mao and Taipei 101.
On a side note, from the renderings of Fordham, it's difficult to discern how windows fit into its design. Where are they?

Chi-town July 27th, 2005, 07:22 AM On a side note, from the renderings of Fordham, it's difficult to discern how windows fit into its design. Where are they?
Umm, the whole facade is glass.
djcody July 27th, 2005, 11:45 AM 1)Fordham 9.9
2)skyneedle 9.7
3)Dearborn 9.3
New Jack City July 27th, 2005, 06:26 PM Skyneedle, I love the setbacks and the whole soaring aspect, second would be Fordham.
I can't help but think Petronas when I see this picture...

No surprise, both were done by Pelli.
oshkeoto July 27th, 2005, 11:54 PM Fordham by a mile.
The Skyneedle is elegant and iconic but a throwback.
7SD is ugly. It looks, as I have said before, like some past notion of what the future should look like, quaint and outdated before it was even built.
ThirdCoast312 July 28th, 2005, 02:01 AM it's hard to ignore the fact here that the Fordham spire has by far the best site and position on the skyline here. I don't think the spire would fit well into the middle of the loop the way 7 s. D and Skyneedle do in their drawings.
2PRUROCKS! July 28th, 2005, 07:41 AM I like them all but only the Spire blew me away when I saw it, so it is definatly my favorite.
1. Spire
2. 7SD
3. Skyneedle (close 3rd to 7SD)
ChicagoSkyline July 28th, 2005, 08:49 AM I love them all, but if only one can be build. I would definitely like the The Illinois or Chicago World Trade Center, oh never mind, it is not an option. Ok the 7 SD would be my choice. Its design is quite unique and well thought out. The fordman spire would be my second follow by the skyneedle. Both of they look similar in da distant, slim and pointy. But the fordham is more artsy and inspring. :)
ncvegas July 29th, 2005, 11:23 PM Skyneedle for sure! the fordham would never work because of it's "spiral" design. doesn't look too bad though.

Azn_chi_boi August 1st, 2005, 01:42 AM Fordham would of stand the most out... Thats a great picture, STR
Imagine if all those buildings were built, AON and the Hancock wont even be in the Chicago's top 5. and we would of had.
Chicago would of got 9 buildings, 995 ft and higher, or even 10 995 ft and higher if the Illinois was built.
correct me if I am wrong.
Cheese Mmmmmmmmmmmm August 3rd, 2005, 04:28 PM This is great, Hey you are a genius. Can you add the Illinois just for the hell of it all.
Where was "The Illinois" proposed to be built at specifically? Or was that not specified?
Azn_chi_boi August 3rd, 2005, 10:34 PM I think next to the watertowerplace, might be were the John Hancock or the Watertower is standing.
Latoso August 4th, 2005, 04:06 AM It was fantasy, not an actual proposal. Just something that would be nice somewhere in Chicago.
phillyskyline August 4th, 2005, 04:09 AM Damnnn, awesome rendering....
