Well, this is not my understanding when first heard HI is being renovated. Renovation for me is not demolishing and rebuilding. But major refurbushiment done to the building.

Hi Tata,

Hotel Indonesia is a registered and protected historical bldg/landmark, and WILL NOT be demolished. Most of the structure and interior [Soekarno era murals, statues, etc.] w/ be untouched. Hotel Wisata in the back [AND the Bali Wing, towards the back of the orig. letter "L" structure] WILL BE DEMOLISHED.

The entire area of "Hotel Wisata" w/ be redeveloped into Commercial Bldgs > Mall, Apartments [it's a big area, and w/ wrap around the original Hotel Indonesia structure.

The area where the pool is today, w/ make way for an Office Tower [proposed height, anywhere between 45 - 60 floors].

For at least 10 years, Hotel Indonesia [and the State-owned Hotel Group] had been planned for privatization. I know, as I was involved as part of the Consulting Team on how to structure the deal & "highest & best use study", in mid 1990s, during the Economic Boom. It was clearly stipulated then, that Hotel Indonesia tower is NOT TO BE TOUCHED in the redevelopment. Hotel Wisata and HI's Hotel Wing is sitting on expensive land that is better used for other more commercial use. Therefore, that part w/ be demolished.

So all worries aside, we WILL still see Hotel Indonesia in its current physical appearance, only better!

Notice the orig. "Letter L" structure of the orig. Hotel Indonesia Tower + Wing [untouched]. The taller building behind it is the new Proposed Mall [Hotel Wisata site], wrapping around the complex, culminating in the Office Tower on left [HI Pool site]. Notice also the "billowing sail" roof structure on top of the Office Tower > mirroring Hotel Indonesia's 60s modernist roof!

This will no doubt be an very interesting addition to Jakarta's CBD Skyline, and center of commerce, together w/ Plaza Indonesia [and Kebon Melati/Waduk Melati Redevelopment behind it] as a true downtown experience, along the lines of Singapore's Orchard Road. Think of it as the "New Bunderan HI" of the future

It would be great to see Hotel Indonesia repositioned as an uber-chic urban hotel. The architecture suggests downtown Miami [w/out the ocean view], a 60s modernist structure.

It should be repositioned as "THE REASON" to visit downtown Jakarta. Like all the "W" Hotels of the world [part of the Starwood Group of Hotels]

Yes. Ofcourse the orig. hotel itself w/ be completely renovated, and re-positioned to compete w/ other luxury hotels. It may also include a new operator/hotel management co. Because for years, the holding co. - State-owned Hotel Indonesia Int'l [HII/Natour Group] - has been struggling. They actually have a portfolio of centrally-located hotels in major cities across Indonesia.
Plenty investors showed interest [pre-Crisis '97], but dealing w/ a State-owned enterprise w/ crumbling fixed assets in dire need of fresh capital, is not an easy task. And then ofcourse the Ec. Crisis came and everything ground to a halt. Private investors are basically looking at the land-value, as most buildings are old [most are from the colonial era too], and would require huge investment to re-do all the hotels in their portfolio. And the crown-jewel has always been Hotel Indonesia. That's why it took so long for Djarum to work out the deal > 30-year BOT [Build, Operate, Transfer]. If this deal is successful, I'm sure the rest of the hotel portfolio w/ be up for grabs.

yeah! hideous! i mean.. look at them.. the two buildings dont even MATCH.. they dont even look like they're connected... and plus, those windows kinda look like jail cells.. cuz for one thing, theyre are reaaaally small.. and they have those little bar things.. soo ugly.. the mandarin hotel is kinda ugly too.. haha.. all of those ugly things should be renovated.. cuz then it would make that roundabout much more nicer.

I like the Shangri-La I spent here a couple of times as a guest. Hopefully they re going to resume building The Westin and Conrad Hotel. Before the Mariott blast I spend only one time at the Mariott , marvelous. I could go on and on saying where I stayed during my brief stop in Jakarta but I like them all ( the 5stars hhotels )

well probably you should observe more since there are a lot of constructions of new buildings lately... Some 'old' buildings on Jln Sudirman completed more than 10 years ago are still nice, like Bank Niaga and JSX building.

Yeah they are old. Build probably in the late 70s and 80s. they were both one of the first 5 star international hotels to be built in the city. Because of their age, they are becoming more and more like city icons.

Yepp, this hotel (the 4-star one) is opened in 1998 ...It is HOTEL ARYADUTA ..located in JALAN DIPONEGORO really close with TAMAN KOTA (City park) and HUTAN KOTa (inner-city forrest) ... really nice neighborhood... although, it is really surrounded by nice pedestrian to do very exciting jogging... this hotel also has its own JOGGING TRACk at the back of the building .. with tennis court, basketball, and some facility ..

Aston International which moved its headquarters from Hawaii to Jakarta was now developing 18 other properties across Indonesia, he said.

Brookfield said Aston International was planning to build six more hotels and residences in Jakarta until next year. The six planned hotels and residences would be Aston Mangga Dua, Aston Kelapa Gading, Aston Marina Ancol, Aston Inn Cengkareng, Aston Serpong, and Aston Aberco Belleza Permata Hijau.

Aston International had already signed a contract to manage hotels in Ketapang town in Central Kalimantan and in Surabaya beginning in 2009.

The company would operate hotels and serviced apartments in Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Palu, Cengkareng, Balikpapan, and Medan late this year or early next year as well as in Manado, Ambon and Bogor next year.

Brookfield said the occupancy rates of hotels managed by Aston International had continued to increase as Aston Group`s business was growing rapidly in Indonesia.

The hotel occupancy rate in Jakarta reached over 85 percent, in Bandung 75 percent, in Bali island 60-65 percent and in Palembang 80 percent, he said.

Quoting a report of the Transportation Ministry, Brookfield said air passengers in Indonesia may reach 70 million in 2010 so Aston International was considering to develop hotels in provinces and districts in Indonesia.

He also said the group would expand its business in Southeast asia by also operating to Vietnam.(*)

Minggu lalu saya berkesempatan mengunjungi villa di daerah Seminyak, Kerobogan. Lokasinya bener-bener di daerah perkampungan sehingga bener-bener tempat yang sunyi kalau malam hari. Villa ini baru dibuka akhir tahun lalu, dan saat ini masih dibangun villa-villa baru.

jangan ga enak ati tuh, bukannya apa-apa kali aja kita bisa rekomendasi hotel yang harganya "masuk akal" dengan servis yang diberikan. hal ini penting, karna banyak sekali hotel (terutama di indonesia timur" harga kamar dijual sebagai hotel bintang 3 - 4 dengan pelayanan dan fasilitas yang pas-pasan.

ya di grandpaladium itu. mereka ambil sebagian ruangan di sudut dekat kantor walikota medan beserta 4 lantai paling atas.

Awalnya dulu grandpaladium direncanakan ada lippo bank, dan berbentuk tower, bukan melebar keseluruh luas gedung. Gak tau napa lippo gak jadi.
Mudah2an lippo bank lagi mencari lokasi baru untuk bangun gedung yg tinggi ya.. heheheh

Accor has signed a contract to manage three new Novotel hotels in Indonesia:

- Novotel Simatupang Jakarta - a premier location in the Indonesian capital;

- Novotel Lampung - in an emerging beach resort area of southern Sumatra;

- Novotel Pekanbaru - Accor’s second hotel in Pekanbaru.

The three new hotels, which are all scheduled to open in late 2008, will increase the Novotel network in Indonesia to at least 18 hotels by the end of 2008.

Vice President of Accor Indonesia, Gerard Guillouet, said, “Accor has been actively growing the Novotel brand network around Indonesia for over a decade. Novotel hotels are now present in most of Indonesia’s major cities and high profile resort areas such as Bali, where we are opening our second Novotel – Novotel Nusa Dua – later this month.”

The 220-room Novotel Simatupang Jakarta is located on a major junction in south Jakarta, close to one of the capital’s largest shopping centres, Pondok Indah Mall, and key commercial and government offices. Facilities will include a business centre, ballroom, two restaurants, lounge-bar and pub, swimming pool, plus a state-of-the-art fitness centre and spa wellness complex. Guests will be able to enjoy hotel-wide WiFi coverage in all rooms and public areas.

Novotel Lampung will be Accor’s first hotel in this emerging resort destination and will offer stylish accommodation overlooking the city’s main beach area. The 160-room hotel is 15 minutes from the Lampung city centre in southern Sumatra. It will feature a 2,400 sqm ballroom, business centre, 2 restaurants, an entertainment centre swimming pool, fitness centre and a spa.

The 230-room Novotel Pekanbaru is located in the city’s central business district and joins Ibis Pekanbaru in one of Sumatra’s key commercial centres. The hotel will offer two restaurants, ballroom, business centre, entertainment centre, swimming pool and spa and fitness complex.

Accor currently operates 38 hotels in Indonesia, making it the largest international hotel management company in the country. The group has continued to develop its country wide hotel network while also contributing significantly to community development projects, such as “Tree for a Child”.

This project was started in 2001 in Jakarta to help provide children with better health care and education while protecting the environment. ‘Tree for a Child’ has become a key community development programme for Accor Asia Pacific and is supported by the company and staff. It was also launched in Thailand in January 2007.

I cant believe this is called Hermes. It's million miles from the brand and if they (the brand) decided to follow Bvlgari's footstep, this place will be sued.

Sekarang kalo gak salah liat di websitenya paling murah itu Rp.800an - 900an ribu. Penthouse nya Rp.5.990.000** per night...(luasnya setengah dari luas perlantai)

Yea, i was there as well with my parents in the 90s. i didnt appreciate it then as i was just a sullen teenager :o)

when i went back several years ago, the layout changed alot. now there are too many furniture and they extended the building with completely different style (think it was oriental themed) which doesnt seem correspond to the original annex :o( so now i think its not worth it to pay that much to stay in another yet overdeveloped-lost its character hotel.

meanwhile, there is this new modern hotel with simple utilitarian yet stylish elegant hotel called santika in malang. decided to stay tehre when i'm over. and its waayy alot cheaper :o)
