Jacksonville Florida... Never been there, but my step dad has, and he brought me back a collecter coke bottle and a baseball cap!
:D What do you think of this city?

The skyline is far too little for what the population consists of (largest city in Florida.) Then again, it also is its own county which would explain the giant population. They should put some more buildings up there; or atleast something taller then the modis building.

What is that tower with the giant "MODIS" on the top? I hate that building... :(

I am not impressed. My biggest beef isn't with the number of buildings, but with the layout instead. There doesn't seem to be much continuity, if you know what I mean... ;)

I love it the Modis building one of the best in America in my opinion

The population is a bit fudged because it includes all of Duval County, you see the Jacksonville sign but then drive through 15 minutes of forest first.

Um.. Jacksonville does not have a huge population neither is it "the largest city in Florida". It is the largest city in Florida by land size(Jacksonville and Duval County are one and the same) making it even harder to built a succesfull downtown and skyline because of the constant struggle against suburbanism. Jacksonville only has 800,000 people.

It's "o.k."...It's not really impressing me at the moment, but in a couple of years, I can see this city having an amazing skyline. I give it a 6 on the skyline for now, and a 9 for it's potential...Overall, it's a good 7.5. :)

Jax has a nice mix of old and modern high-rises. The Modis Building is one of those buildings either you love, or hate. I love it, it defines Jax's skyline. At night, three of Jax's bridges at downtown are lit up with lights; Hart Bridge, Main Street Bridge, and the Acosta Bridge. 8 out of 10

Because Mississauga is part of a metro area that is FAR larger than Jacksonville. Plus sauga is a city in its own rite, not just a burb. It also is twice as dense as Jacksonville.

6/10 interesting skyline and great city, but not enough tall buildings or dense residential in the core.

Jacksonville's skyline is certainly no Atlanta or Boston or San Fran, but it does well for an American city its size. Its tallest is 617 ft and 43 floor, which is not exactly short. It has 5 significantly tall residential buildings ranging from 22 floors to 37 floors (with plenty more residential shorter than that).

The bridges certainly add an interesting dynamic that most cities could only dream of. Whenever the next boom is and if city leaders wake up and take their thumb out of their ass, expect at least another 5 towers to pop up, one being office and the rest being residential.

Overall if you were to drive through the city and cross on 95 you would be impressed. The skyline is certainly more impressive than neighboring Orlando's (sorry and not to rag on that city) and is more impressive than Birmingham's, Raleigh's for sure, Louisville's, Richmond's, and arguably Nashville's (that's arguable).

Also density wise, that's another argument for another thread but some of Jacksonville's core neighborhoods would put any other sunbelt neighborhoods to shame. I have provided photos of said neighborhoods in the Florida forum and the Urban showcase forum.
