Honolulu is nothing like Surfer's Paradise. These photos don't show the traditional Asian-influenced small-scale architecture, which is much more Polynesian in flavor, color and materials. The Honolulu Academy of Art is a sterling example of the dominant low-rise style.

Though the skyline is quite boxy, has no 'kandmark' towers, and is a bit spread out, it still does nothing but impress. Honolulu easily has the largest skyline for a city its size in the United States, and one of the better highrise to population ratios in the world.

Some great density and buildings, but is missing some true height and distinguishment. I give it a 6.5/10.

Individually, few of these buildings are very remarkable, but taken together they form a very impressive skyline. Some have compared their style to that of a "commieblock" but these buildings benefit from looking cleaner and better-maintained than your stereotypical block building. I guess the tropical setting helps in that. Altogether, it's good. 8.

great city, but it definetely isn't exotic in my opinion. In fact, Honolulu remembers me of Rio , Recife and Fortaleza, in Brazil.

Gorgeous setting, but the buildings themselves aren't much. I'm not a fan of the Miami-style condo clusters, though there's one or two office-looking buildings in there that aren't bad. I agree with Kaneda that they shouldn't have wiped out the beach, there would have been potential for a really badass downtown-beach combo like in Chicago.

Hey, Honolulu is a Western "La Coruna". I also give it 6/10.

It's okay - not as good as I was expecting though. Much of the architecture isn't good enough for such a beautiful setting. Much like many of the buildings in Vancouver.

Whatever dude it's boxy and lacks a harmony in how it's boxes are set up and appear in the skyline. I won't big anywhere else up on that but the skyline is impressive for the amount and considering how many people are there but visually it does zilch for me. I'm a fan of mountains but La's mountain backdrop and hk's mountain backdrop serve their cities better visually in that respect as well. Lovely beaches but we aren't judging that.
Today and on here we are judging what we see. I see a few cool looking highrises but the majority of it is just bland to me. It has no real character and is just meshed together to form this 400' blob by the beach. That is my honest opinion. The height limit kills it for me. If that isn't enough the architectural stock, blah set up and weak visual. The surrounding natural scene is incomparable to any of the places I would rate higher skyline wise but it's like I said ^^^. There you go a nice lengthy detail and not just Honolulu 4/10. The backdrop is really a 1 1/4 of my answer.

....not very many tall buildings? Honolulu has over 300 buildings over 10 stories....most "high rises" are less than 45 floors due to laws in place so that the view of our NATURAL HIGH RISE Diamond Head is not blocked from view no matter where you are in the city. That is why you don't see 50 /60/ 70 story buildings in Honolulu......It's against the law.... Thank the "Outdoor Circle" for that one.

Gosh, I love Honolulu. The city is so laid back yet bustling. Nice weather, nice beaches, nice food and culture.
