Well, it's a shithole, but it's got a tall tv tower(not shown in any of the pics) and Ryongyong, which atleast is tall, and some nice natural scenery, if the pictures offer an accurate view of what it really looks like there. 5/10

Could be worse. I actually liked some buildings but the city looks too dead to me. The streets are all empty and that concrete hotel (that looks like a vagina) is just horrible. I hope Korea becomes one single country in the future and that horrible dictator leaves the government, giving prosperity to the north!

Yuck. Those apartment blocks look like they're crumbling, and they need to keep that power on, and not just for the Juche tower's decorative lighting.
4/10, just for the presence of tall buildings.

I LOVE PYONGYANG!!! Something about secretive, communist, nut job nations is SOOOO alluring. The skyline gets 3/10, but the Ryungyong Hotel is sooo cool. Imgaine having an abondoned, crumbling, 1000 foot building in your city. SUPER COOL!

I really don't get people giving this skyline such low grades. Yeap, it's communist, yeap, there's Kim, yeap, there's lots of commieblocks, yeap, etc, etc. Not being all that, but rather Le Courbousier's realization of 3 MIO city somewhere in North America or Europe, you'd probably be all giving it completely different grades.

Objectively it's not Manhattan or Hong Kong, but it definately deserves at least 7.5/10. Overall it's still an amazing place. One of the kind...and I'd definately love to see some of this city's skyscrapers in my city....right next to my window, if you will.

This is the most amazing city I have ever seen.
Its Beuty puts a spell on you instantly.
An incredible example for a hall city built in one style, complete modernity and functionality for the working people who decide for thier own future and fate.
The esthethics of beutiful pyongyang is undoubtfully unique. There is no where in the world that looks like that in sheer size and unity.
Above all its beutifully styled buildings, there are incredible monumets at Pyongyang.
Mansudae monument cannot be compaired with anything made in USSR in its time. The Juche Tower and its simetric construction area is not to be be compaired with anything on earth.
No matter what you thing of the KIM family, PYONGYANG is the 8th wonder of this world with its architecture and monumental achivements.

It just seems intriguing because it's "mysterious" North Korea. It looks a hell of alot better than Brasilia in my opinion. Brasilia is the ugliest city I've ever seen pictures of.

I think its a 7, just a little lower than your 8. Most of the comments have been harsh and uncalled for about this city and country. Its hard to judge a city when you try and compare it to others. This country has had its problems so I think we should take that into account when we judge it!

Visually, it isn't a bad skyline at all. People here are too busy rating the country, not the skyline.

It's a perfectly respectable skyline, with a lot more variation than is generally associated with commie blocks, but it's also a fake one. Nobody lives in many of those buildings. Some of them haven't even been fully built or kept structurally sound. During the day it may be an impressive array of architecture, but at night it looks like a dead, gloomy suburb of a real city in a poor country somewhere. They can't even supply electricity to parts of the city at night.

The roads are beautiful and well-planned, but nobody drives on them. Lots of people walk, but there's no atmosphere. It's a sterile, totalitarian society. The only redeeming feature at the street level would be the public transit. The stations and trains are reminiscent of old Soviet design, and they have a certain charm to them.

6 for the skyline, but I would rather live many other places.

Very wide avenues, huge buildings with a lot of floors and windows, plenty of space between buildings and if you consider lack of traffic too, it`s fantastic. I`m interested in life in North Korea so I`ve seen a lot of Pyongyang photos and I really like it because it`s so different than any other city. I recommend you to check it with Google Earth.

I agree, that skyline has a completely incomplete look about it that's almost unnerving. And it looks like some kind of weird low-level smog inversion in most of those pics.

Actually you can book your tour now either through some operators or by Friends of Korea Association. It costs around 2500$ for a 7 days trip, 3-4 days if you're American.
