Flatiron July 28th, 2005, 08:46 PM The house in Ottawa is the only one with any character.
bluenoser July 28th, 2005, 08:55 PM Halifax, not because I'm biased from living here, but here's the deal:
Ottawa house = a bit too uptight, I'd be worried about breaking some antique doorframe or something
Regina house = bit too spacious, might be good for a family of 5+
Vancouver house = as the guy hinted, it's not too great a deal
Sydney = well...seems kind of crazy
crazyjoeda July 28th, 2005, 10:20 PM Ottawa - Probably the best deal, nice house in a more then decent city.
Halifax - Its an ok deal, Im not a big fan of the house but the lake is a nice feature, but I wouldn't want to live in Halifax.
Regina - Nice house, a little big but then ur stuck in Regina.
Vancouver - Not the best house but you get to live in an amazing city.
Sydney - The same situation as Vancouver, you get a below average house but you get to live in a really nice city.
If I had $500,000 I would get a nice condo in downtown Vancouver.
*Jarrod July 29th, 2005, 12:34 AM ^ditto. i don't want a house...and i don't want to live in halifax, regina, ottawa or sydney.
Travis007 July 29th, 2005, 03:39 AM The Sydney condo looks nice so that's my pick.
The Ottawa house looks like th average house you'll see in my neighbourhood although probably bigger but I'm not a fan of those older homes. The Halifax and Regina ones look like your average suburban homes, and the Vancouver one is too small for $500 k.
ssiguy2 July 29th, 2005, 05:12 AM Actually, I was thinking the $500k one in Vancouver is a bit of a bargain by WestCoast standards.
Not sure..........I would like to have seen Mon/Tor/Cal there for a real comparison.
I like the Ottawa home for its character.
CrAzYtOwN July 29th, 2005, 09:37 PM It;s between the Ottawa one and the Vancouver one
*Jarrod July 29th, 2005, 10:33 PM i think that the best comparison would have to be between halifax, regina, victoria, and...saskatoon?
but i would have liked to see a comparison between van/cal/tor/mont
Travis007 July 30th, 2005, 10:04 PM Some homes around Toronto that you'll get from the $500,000 to $550,000 range.

Overall, if you don't want to live in the suburbs or a condo downtown, you'll have to pay more than $500,000 to find a decent home in the downtown area.
Byron July 31st, 2005, 01:07 AM From an investment standpoint I would buy the Vancouver house. If would probably rise in value the fastest. I wouldn't live in any of them though.

In Vancouver you would first have to find a house downtown, I think there are a few dozen in between the westend end apartments. Any house that goes up for sale is bought by a developer for big money and then torn down.
I live 40min from downtown and the average price for a house is $600-800,000 White Rock is a nice area but a little further north in Surrey the average detached home is is $300-400,000 and its not such a nice area.
Like sk8rboiiii said Vancouver is the best investment.
