Went to the races last weekend and took the camera along. Had a good day, only lost about $100, which isn't too bad. It was a pretty quiet day for crowds, there had been a bit of rain in the morning.

Those race courses would make great development land.

JayT, that's a terrible thought to have, why ruin history, and a great part of Brisbane for a couple more streets of boring suburbia.

Racing is what makes that part of Brisbane great, I love driving to work in the morning and seeing the horses go out to track work.

You should get yourself to the races one day, I think you would really enjoy it, in fact I'm astounded you have never been.

In this picture you can see Eagle Farm and Doomben race tracks on the top right. Doomben is closer to the airport, the tracks are neighbours. Albion, which used to have horse racing, and is now trots and greyhounds is in the same part of Brisbane, but closer to town (at the back of the Brekkie Creek Hotel)

Not sure if it's been posted, but Doomben and Eagle Farm have come to an agreement to merge together.

So sometime in the future we can have one, large, world class track and the petty competitiveness can end. I agree we can't loose the racetracks.

Although, there is plenty of land AROUND the racetrack that could use some development...why not build an urban village out at Pinkenba and re-open the train line :)

If one of the courses has to close down I think it should be Doomben. It might be newer, but Eagle Farm has more nostalgia and looks better.
