Skoulikimou April 17th, 2006, 02:47 PM this is really unfortunate , this was planned for Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street Development ,the shocking thing was that............the design for the project was completed in 1989 :runaway:
Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street Development*
The Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street Development site covers an area of approximately 100 hectares on the eastern side of the Kuwait Business
District. The primary purpose of the project was to create an area of important civic status similar in function and character to that surrounding the Avenue des Champs-Elysees in Paris. In 1989, the Kuwait Municipality invited four of the leading design consultants in Kuwait (SSH, PACE, KEO andJQEC) to participate in a consortium to prepare consolidated design proposals based on the best ideas from competition entries submitted previously by each of the four firms. Abdullah Al-Ahmad Street, as the central street in the project area, became the significant land use element and the focus of the project. The street was realigned towards the centre point of the dome of the Grand Mosque.
Client:Kuwait Municipalit
Associates:PACE, KEO & JQEC (Consortium)
Status:Completed in 1989

*note this is not the final design of the project
safqa_tijariya April 17th, 2006, 04:44 PM I think the final design will be in 3D.
Koweitien April 17th, 2006, 05:13 PM Skoulikimou you meant 1989 right ? Yeah we lost a lot of ground due to the invasion. But c'est la vie :)
Ikarus_q8 April 17th, 2006, 10:18 PM when will they start ? any ideas?
Colorado-Q8 April 19th, 2006, 11:37 AM Hi,
Does anyone know if this project was approved (final approval)?
Koweitien April 19th, 2006, 01:24 PM Hi,
Does anyone know if this project was approved (final approval)?
I think that it has been approved ages ago (something like over 5 years ago) and a company has been appointed to do this project but they were never given the green light to start this project i.e. this project is probably on hold :) Btw welcome to the sub-forum Colorado-Q8 :)
Colorado-Q8 April 20th, 2006, 02:52 PM Thanx......Yeah I've heard of it from a friend a while ago but i thought its just another project that we get to hear about but never see...
FloodGate April 20th, 2006, 07:13 PM The designer of this ugly project should be shot then hanged then shot again.

Danny21 August 24th, 2008, 11:24 AM The video render for the winning entry by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and SSH International for the international competiton for the educational, cultural and entertainment centre in Kuwait City.
The main aim of this animation is to render, in just 3 minutes, the architectural complexity and atmosphere of some of the key places of this huge city centre project.

q8_shaggy_17 August 24th, 2008, 11:35 AM danny21...the project has been on hold 4 years now with no updates...so yes I think the project has been scrapped
khotkw August 24th, 2008, 12:32 PM Ah the video brought me some bad memories. You think you feel unfortunate for the project being on hold for all those years? imagine how we feel, after spending all the time & effort making that presentation .. we even pulled exhausting all nighters .. and for what? for nothing.
What i know is this is the winning design by Jean Nouvel & SSH. we were declared winners by the municipality, and then poof, nothing after it got approved back in 2004.

differences75 April 16th, 2010, 07:45 AM so, will they construct this project? I sure hope so, but will they?
fireo December 29th, 2010, 08:47 AM I work directly behind the proposed land for this project and the municipality has started clearing the land of all parking spaces that were contstructed illegaly on this spot of land. I spoke to the supervisor and he said we have to have it cleared by the 1st of january for the contractor to start a entertainment and sports complex! problem is the parking is a bitch in this part of the city! god help us all :bash:
q8_shaggy_17 December 29th, 2010, 10:49 AM cool.....I guess that means that the project is approved....that's great news cuz this one of the mega projects in the city and it's one of my favorite.
Kuwaiti December 30th, 2010, 01:53 AM This project had the ability to refurbish our downtown area.
Is it true that the project is re-launched? I really hope it is. It's a worthy investment.
CrazY December 30th, 2010, 10:44 AM they won the project 20 years earlier and they haven't sued anyone for this delay?
