View Full Version : London 2012 logo????
brummad August 2nd, 2005, 06:11 PM i was just wondering whether or not the existing london 2012 logo with the colours snaking thru the name like the thames will stay as the logo for the actual games...i personally feel it would be a shame to get rid of such a great logo...however how about some of you creative lovely people having a go at your own (IOC style generic) logo for 2012.

Leeds No.1 August 2nd, 2005, 06:24 PM I think it will- it was designed in a competion by younger people, who are a key element of its bid.
Alphie August 2nd, 2005, 08:01 PM Olympic cities have always had separate bid logos and games logos. We should see a new one some years down the line.
As far as I know the existing design was created by a design firm which won an open competition several years ago. There used to be a very interesting site which displayed all the entries but I think its gone now. I suspect they might want something more blatantly London in the logo, like a cultural landmark or something.

or a mascot.
a teddy bear image of a bear skin soldier would be cool, you would have two very strong colours together, ie red and black, very striking.
Madman August 2nd, 2005, 10:13 PM If i remember right the host cities have a games logo and a mascot. Here are Sydney's mascots and logo for the 2000 Summer Games.

JDRS August 3rd, 2005, 02:55 PM I like our current logo but I assume they'll change it for the games. I like the bid one but I'm sure they can come up with something even better for the games.

***STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION*** but a working draft
Fusionist August 12th, 2005, 09:14 AM I hate the current one. Wish they change it soon
Fusionist August 12th, 2005, 09:55 AM here is my idea.. it depicts an elated youth running with both his hands raised in victory !

Cabman August 12th, 2005, 12:20 PM Good effort fusionist, although I wouldn't have known it was a runner unless I was told, so I guess it needs a little work.
Capzilla September 26th, 2005, 01:16 PM They're not really changing it are they? I've already got so much "back the bid" merch and posters (okay, saying "candidate city", but that only makes it worth more haha).. would be a shame and I rather like the current logo.
DarJoLe September 26th, 2005, 01:38 PM All Olympic city logos change from the bid logo to the host city logo.
CharlieP September 26th, 2005, 02:22 PM The games logo will have the Olympic rings in it, which bid logos aren't allowed.

keep them Capzilla, they will probably be worth more than the new logo, as less people will have them or kept them.
Kampflamm September 26th, 2005, 03:09 PM Incorporate King Charles' giant ears into the logo.
Monkey September 26th, 2005, 03:22 PM I hated the bid logo when I first saw it. I remember thinking, "right that's it, we've lost already, they cannot even find a talented logo designer". However it has really grown on me since then and I now think it was the best of the five candidate cities.

Well, not entirely true, cities aren't allowed to put the actual Olympic logo onto their big logo until they've passed the first selection (which in this turn was Paris, Moscow, New York, Madrid and London). So before that we just had the London 2012 with the ribbon. After passing into the round (when I think four other cities dropped out) they added the rings above.

I was wrong - I apologise for any misunderstanding I may have caused.

Nice one! With a bit of effort that could come out very well and possibly be used.
savas October 18th, 2005, 07:56 PM i would like to ask: what do you consider for very british? do you think the logo should imply something typical british like the british colors or even a landmark (big ben)?
Munch October 18th, 2005, 08:27 PM too british, needs to be more olympic.... but awesome idea with the running thing
