Et bien, ça fait environs 2 semaines que le printemps est finalment arrivé.:banana:

En fin de semaine je suis allé jouer au golf et il faisait environs 24 degrés celcius. Présentement (16h50 H.A.E.) il fait 22 celcius. D'ici une ou deux semaines, les feuilles vont pousser dans les arbres! Un peu de verdure ça va nous faire du bien!

Par contre, je dois t'aviser qu'il y a à peine 30 jours de cela, nous avions encore 50CM de neige sur nos pelouses!!

L'hiver a été très long cette année!

Good day today to hit Marché Maisonneuve. Not as big as Jean-Talon or Atwater but bigger than Lachine, it's a pretty cool spot and is a cultural centre and community garden as well as a market.

There is a neat segment on it from 'Montréal en 12 lieux' which was produced by Urbania magazine and TV5 France.

'Le Banc des Amoureux' 1976 by Lea Vivot. Funny story, it was originally installed in Toronto but it offended so many people that it was removed in 1979 and installed here in 1985. It's been not offending people here for over 20 years. There are 3 now with another in Hamilton and one in New York.

There's a long dormant Montreal appreciation thread on page 50 in Citytalk and Urban Issues in the World Forum. Unless there's a more suitable thread, would anyone consider posting some of these photos in there?

Montreal is so under rated. I imagine most Canadians know what a gem Montreal is, but foreigners don't. It might be a good idea to duplicate some of this in the World Forum. Foreigners are less likely to go poking around the Canadian forums and stumble on this thread.

Here is a photo I took on my last visit to Montreal back in the summer of 1992. I amazes me to see how little the skyline of the city has changed from this particular vantage point in almost 16 years. Sorry for the poor quality, this is from pre-digital cam days, had to scan negatives and reconstruct the panorama.

you are right, 1992 till 1997 were very bad years, endless recession. The office market had huge surpluses that only resorbed believe it or not last year!

Much changed at street level though from 1992 till today, i can attest that. Alot of buildings in the 15-30 stories range were built and are hardly seen on the panoramas.

Malek is right. If you come later this fall or next year, you will see quite a few new buildings in the 20 to 37 storey range. Many of them are under construction now.

Hey malek, would love to send the larger file but at 5MB it is bigger than I can upload to the free server. I can send it directly to you if you've got an email address i can use or alternately if you've got another suggestion as to where I can upload it for you, would be glad to do so. I've also got some shots taken in the mid/late 80's from the same spot showing place de la cathedrale in the last stages of construction. Thought I could stitch it into a panorama but the photos don't quite line up properly, can post them separately if anyone is interested in trying to stitch them together.

I stayed in Montreal recently and must say that the city was amazing! Great mix of architecture and great history too. I loved the old port area. Another thing I noticed is that the customer service throughout Quebec was absolutely fantastic... You don't get customer service that good in a lot of places throughout the world!!

A fantastic city with fantastic, friendly residents. I hope I can afford to come back for the Jazz festival next year.

Tu vas définitivement aimé ça encore plus pendant les mois d'été! Montréal l'hiver et l'été c'est deux villes complètement différentes!

La Ville de Montréal est magnifique. En été il y a beaucoup de choses à voir et à faire. C'est, en plus, la saison des féstivals. Mais ce qui est le plus beau dans cette ville c'est, les Montréalais qui sont si chaleureux et si sympathiques. Si je pouvais, j'y passerais mes vacances chaque année.

Hey yuki, that building is 600, boul. René-Lévesque O. The only info that I could find is that it was built in 1949 and that it is fully leased. The Art Deco Society of Montréal has it in their inventory of buildings and I found this photo at i mtl.

I went through the entire thread for the first time. I don't want to hear anyone say anymore that Montréal is not beautiful and/or not photogenic. I was wondering the same thing. You should have seen the blatantly racist and inflammatory thread he started in the Canada forum. He seems to have a hatred toward Anglos, but then posts in English.

Je suppose que ton salaire dépendra du nombres d'années d'expérience que tu as! Aussi, le nombres d'années que tu travail pour cette compagnie pourrait aider.

Pour commencer, Montréal a une limite sur la hauteur de ses édifices. Aucuns édifices ne peut dépasser le Mont-Royal (234mètres audessus du niveau de la mer) Le marché immobilier commercial de Montréal est en très bonne santée. Les taux d'innocupations sont moins de 5% pour la grande majoritée des tours à bureaux du Centre-Ville. Le problème est que les loyers non pas augmentés assez vite, donc, les promoteurs ne veulent pas construire car il n,y a personne qui est intéressé à payer des loyers qui seront 20 à 25% plus cher qu'une tour existante.

Et juste pour mettre la cerise sur le sundae, la crise économique fait qu'aucune compagnie veut se lier pour une longue période de temps. la majoritée des locataire veulent renouveller leurs baux, mais pour des périodes de 1-2 années...ce qui est bien peu quand on considère qu,en temps normal, ce sont des baux de 5, 7 ou 10 années qui sont signés!

C'est étrange, montréal à beau être américaine, elle conserve quand même cette raisonabilité francophone ... la skyline est très bien, la qualité des batiments est exellente, pourtant il manque de nuit par exemple ce brin de Fun que d'autres villes canadiennes ont ... un petit times square par exemple ou juste un peu plus de couleur dans les éclairages ^^ mais avec tous ses projets la belle canadienne va à coup sûr rattraper son retard sur ce plan là ^^ merci pour ces photos !

Mmmm... wow. C'est bien la première fois que j'entends ça. Montréal, la nuit, est plus vibrante et colorée que n'importe laquelle autre ville canadienne. Plus folle, plus électrisante, et de très loin. Même plus que Toronto. En fait, Montréal est renommé pour son nightlife, que nous envient toutes les autres villes du pays, beaucoup plus sages et conservatrices (hormis Toronto). Il ne faut pas se fier à des photos du quartier financier, forcément tranquille la nuit.

Il y a des villes qui ont des Ginza, des Times Square et d'autres qui ont des villes souterraines...
Quand aux gratte-ciels, il faut supprimer la limite de hauteur.

MartinMtl a bien résumé, Montréal fait l'envie d'à peu près toutes les villes nord-américaines pour son "fun" et son activité. Il n'y a donc aucun retard à rattrapper! C'est la ville où il y a le plus haut taux de population vivant au centre-ville après New York avec autour de 5% je pense, alors que les autres villes moyennes du continent se situent souvent autour de 1-2%. Il y a pas très longtemps, Montréal et surtout le boulevard Saint-Laurent ont été classés deuxièmes en Amérique du Nord en ce qui a trait au nightlife derrière Miami Beach par un magazine (oublié lequel)

You are correct. Saying that Québec is like France would be like saying that Americans are like the British!!:yes:

I always correct people who say that. Also, each time I hear people say " Quebecois are arrogant" I tend to answer" aren't you? Won't you if you had a unique culture and lived in a beautiful place called Quebec, or even better a city like Montreal?" then they are silenced! LOL

I also use that way to answer for everybody who says that in terms of Canada + Canadians but also Americans. There are still pretty much some idiots here in Europe who say: America has no culture, is so empty! They were immigrants who had no work here and had to leave.

Then you should be here and look how I answer them and make sure that they are silenced forever! God Bless North America with their ingenuity, creativity and wisdom

I heard about a church going to be demolished in Montreal but I didn't think the city would really go through with it.

When I walked by it I would always fantasize that some wealthy philanthropist would put some money into repairing it. I guess the Church doesn't get the crowds it used to anymore, and it is expensive to keep these churches open.
