oh man, Toronto doesn't compare with the nightlife, I've been there so many times, and it doesn't add up. Everythnig closes so early there, clubs are generaly in the middle of nowhere with no open restaurants by the time you get out, streets are desert, etc.

It was taken from my balcony - white elephant above Sherbrooke metro on the left. There's roof access and I've been meaning to head up with a tripod.

Douglas Cardinal (http://collections.ic.gc.ca/cardinal/) is a unique architect. The link will allow you to see his many projects throughout the country. The Institute of American Indian Arts was very enjoyable. However the museum of human civilization represents organic design quite well as well.

Montreal is very much a French speaking city whereas New Orleans has a French Flavor, a big difference. Montreal is the 2nd largest French speaking city in the world after Paris.

The Olympic stadium in my opinion is Iconic to our city. No other structure is, of such scale is, unique to Montreal. It too bad the function of the building does not keep up to its name.

I competed in the swimming competition at last year's Outgames. The opening/closing ceremonies were at Olympic Stadium as was the swimming.

I can tell you first hand that absolutely everyone I ran into from around the world were impressed with Olympic Stadium. Some who had never even seen a picture of Olympic Stadium were completely blown away by it. I had a friend from England who spent a full 8 hours photographing it and commenting that he has never seen anything like it. "It looks like an alien space ship has landed on earth". My mum echoed similar sentiments. She was living in London UK in 1975-1976 watching a television show documenting Olympic Stadium's construction. She said she definitely took notice. Alot of people marvelled at this strange fantastic structure being erected in Canada. No one had ever seen anything like it.

As many problems as Olympic Stadium has, it still has a magical effect on people. 30 years later and it's still one of Montreal's and Canada's enduring symbols. Iconic? Definitely.

I can tell you first hand that absolutely everyone I ran into from around the world were impressed with Olympic Stadium. Some who had never even seen a picture of Olympic Stadium were completely blown away by it. I had a friend from England who spent a full 8 hours photographing it and commenting that he has never seen anything like it. "It looks like an alien space ship has landed on earth". My mum echoed similar sentiments. She was living in London UK in 1975-1976 watching a television show documenting Olympic Stadium's construction. She said she definitely took notice. Alot of people marvelled at this strange fantastic structure being erected in Canada. No one had ever seen anything like it.

As many problems as Olympic Stadium has, it still has a magical effect on people. 30 years later and it's still one of Montreal's and Canada's enduring symbols. Iconic? Definitely.

For sure!! Physically it is iconic. When big events happen, it is iconic in the city’s life too, but when nothing goes on there to very little people turn up there, it is a pity.

Yeah, the olympic stadium is a iconic piece of architecture.
Too bad they had problem with the roof!
I was wondering if its true, last day a heard about a urban legend that say that since the structure is in complet concrete it is pushing the ground around it and making problem on the street around it?

Stumbling upon the concept of renting a bike when I visit Montreal really opened up the Plateau for me. Had an amazing burger at a Belgian (if I remember correctly) pub there.

Teh city is planning on renting out bikes in the coming year or two, so people can move about the city(a bit like they are doing In Paris). I thought it was a good idea. You pick a bike near a metro station(for example) and you can leave it at the public Library, or a movie theatre etc.

Bikes are such a cheap and easy way to get about a city.. I use the little bike rental place
in the gay village. Nice people and great selection of bikes! If they do the same as Paris, I hope they make it cheaper. The one in Paris is supposed to be cheap, but if you keep the bike all day it is quite pricey. We have a system here in Toronto with yellow bikes..based on the system in Amserdam. The City has set up stations all over the city, and you become a member and can just take a bike wherever you like and leave it at another station. Mind you, with bikes being only $100 at Canadian Tire, most people just buy one.

They should do what they do in Holland and other Europeans cities. Free bikes! You take the bike from one place, and leave it when you end up.

No. Most of the Yeasr, the Pyramid on top of 1501 McGill College is white. During the x-mas holidays it's green and red and during easter its purple!

Usually it starts to snow in mid-November. The city is great to visit in the summer, because there is always something going on in terms of festival and street life.

Nevertheless, Montreal is great all year round ;) Even in the winter, there is so much going on.

I disagree. With the exception of this year, we usually get our fist snow in mid-DECEMBER. This year has been somwhat of an anomalie!

I always remember our first snow fall in November. But usually it melts away, and it piles up in December.

I never been to New York City, but I think the bus would cost around 100 – 150 for a return ticket. Most people I know just drive to New York City and back.

Rafael, if you want to see the leaves change colour, you have to be here in september or october. By november most of the tress have no more leaves..

The best way to come to Montreal from New-York is to take highway 87. It leads you from NYC to Montreal. THe Drive takes about 5 1/2 hours. I've done it numerous times and it's really easy!

You can also take the bus, but thats more like 8 to 9 hours.

You need about 90 minutes from Montréal to get to Tremblant, you can go there early in the morning and come back late at night. I have never been there so I can't tell you how many days you need there, all I know is Tremblant is a tiny little village.

It's located in Parc Jean Drapeau on Île Ste Hélène. It's in the woods about halfway between Tour de Lévis and the Jacques Cartier. That whole area is beautiful because it is the original part of the island. I'm going to do a thing on Parc Jean Drapeau because I think it is one of the most overlooked parks in Montréal.

Excellent Pictures!

I'd like to take credit for all of them but mine are the worst ones on there! I want to get a job in tourism this summer so I've been trying to explore the city as much as possible over the last year and a half. When I find better photos than the ones I've taken myself I substitute. I'm getting a new camera soon so I'm going to go nuts this summer. We're entering the Montréal magic season soon!

Je toujours reviens sur ce thread pour regarder des photos de Montreal, une ville magnifique!! Pour moi, une perle d'Amerique du Nord, vraiment!! J'aime bien la visiter dans le futur proche.
