Went for a job interview in the City this afternoon, and by chance I happened to walk past the site.

Here are some pics.

oi! I've already started a thread that will contain Royex House (now called 5 Aldermansbury), Austral House, 35 Basinghall Street and the two current projects on Cheapside.

I wish this area was master-planned a bit .... The whole area is a mess from the lovely Guildhall up to CityPoint. Lots of aging 60s buildings meaning that there is potential for large-scale re-development. I just feel that plonking new buildings on exisitng plots one by one is almost replicating the mistakes of the 60s (it is a pretty hostile and lifeless area), there was and still is some potential for some exicting master-planning on the opposite side of the road in the area up to City Point but these current developments are a bit depressing considering the potential.

Where did you take it from?

Here's a couple I took last weekend from either side of that big building that straddles London Wall.

It's a vast improvement on what was there before. I just hope it doesn't further obscure views of the Richard Rogers building at 88 Wood street (it's between the core and the big brown building in the second photo.

Here's a photo taken from the elevated section of london Wall connecting to The Barbican. It highlights what potto was talking about I think. If those two blocky pieces of crap went, it would improve the road no end, and give great views to all the new buildings being built in the area.

Including Moorhouse's arse

Which gives me an excuse to post another photo of the front:)

That's taken from Cheapside isn't it?

The "big brown" building is Alban Gate (the old Lee House) by Terry Farrell.

God, I love number one London Wall!

Thanks for the info Ciudad.

One London Wall certainly is a cracker. It's the first time I'd seen it on this visit to London.

One last question I promise. What's the big, mostly black building you can see on the right edge of the photo above. Seen here from next to St Barts.

That's 200 Aldersgate (which could be demolished, apparently). It's about 90m tall.

Thanks wj.

Very strange if this one is demolished as it can't be more than 20 years old. It's front facade can be a bit overpowering, but I think it looks ok when glimpsed from the streets around it.

yeah it looks ok I suppose but the black thing on top does stick up right next to the dome of St Pauls when viewed from the South Bank... hate those gold balls too

....

I hate that building, it looks so clumsy and awkward, it makes you beg for symmetry for some reason. Its only saving grace is that it provides pedestrians some sanctuary from the thoughtless road layout below

5 Aldermansbury today - can see the top floors starting to curve in, and 5 floors of internal cladding. I think that there is a two layered cladding thing going on here, as the glass at the moment is sitting within the steel frame, with lots of rivets on the outfacing beans suggesting an outer skin will be afixed on top later. At least I think that's whats going on, may be wrong!:
