Hey all. I'd like to know if anyone has any pictures of 2016 main. There aren't that many on the internet. I'm from L.A., but plan on moving to Houston and living at 2016. How's the neighborhood? How is public transportation? I will solely depend on PUblic Transport, becuase I have no $$$...It'd be great if someone could post pics of 2016 Main and of the neighborhood around. Thanks!!! OH..Pics of UH would be cool too! btw, how do I get from 2016 to UH on the bus or train? Sorry, but your Metro website sucks. At least, the one I saw. Thanks again.. The best posted pic gets a free beer!! :booze:

Yeah 2016 Main is an old apartment building. Since you say you are relying on transportation, you are living in the perfect spot. Rail runs right in front of the building and you are next door to the Downtown Transit Center. I believe there is a sports bar or something on the bottom floor of the building. To get to UH, take the light rail train northbound or walk to the Downtown Transit Center and get on the 73 or 75 bus that goes directly in front of UH. I am assuming you are talking about the main campus and not downtown. I think it is the MLK route if I am not mistaken. The neighborhood is fine. You are on the edge of Downtown and Midtown.

By the way, go to this website and where it says building name, click 2016 Main and it will give you the condos for sale in that building with pictures. I think there are some for lease too.

You're thinking of the 77 MLK, TB.

I may be. I am also thinking you can take the 30 Cullen form Downtown Transit Center.

Hey TexasBoy, thanks for that website. There are a lot of pictures of the views from 2016. Although, that's it. There aren't any of the neighborhood. It seems as if you know it. How is it? I read at another post that the fwy. underpass was very scary to walk through, is this true? I guess I'll find out soon. I will be in Houston on Aug. 22nd. 1 week, I have that week to make up my mind. Do you guys know if there is good housing around UH main campus? Besides the dorms. Don't want to live in a dorm. I (well, my mom) only have $70,000 to purchase a condo. Can you guys recommend something? All I know is 2016, and they seem pretty cool.

Are you interested in renting? If so, what is your price range? If I find some pics of the area, I will post them. Ha, and the only good housing around UH is @ UH, and I don't mean the dorms, but the apartments. Again, what is your price range? As for the freeway underpass there use to be a lot of homeless under there at night but METRO ran them all out by gating in the area.

No, not really interested in renting. Although, If there isn't anything around my price range, then I might have no choice. :dunno: I've contacted a couple real estate agents, but they don't seem to want to help me out. This kind of sucks, but I can understand their point, I'm in Cali. and it costs them money to call me. Seems like they're not much into the internet. :badnews: (that's them when I call them) Anyway. Thanks for all your help. Oh...so the area around UH is like, ghetto?

I love this building! It's been remodeled in the last few years and looks GREAT now-inside and out! My only complaint is that the hallways are quite lacking in appearance as far as lighting, the plain white hallway walls, and carpet color. I love the granite and marble flooring in the lobby floor and walls and the mirrored and stainless steel elevator interiors! I have always liked older architecture far more than the new stuff. I like artistic detail in a building or even something a little different. To me tall, plain, glass buildings are so very BORING if they lack any artistic detail. 2016 Main was built in 1965, but you can certainly tell the quality of it 43 years later.

:ohno:Hines is going to build a 46 floor building called Main Place in downtown Houston! It's another plain glass building (as if Houston doesn't have enough new plain glass buildings)! It has already been nick-named 'The Pipe-wrench' because other than being a boring tall glass building(and standing out like a sore thumb), it has a cut out near the top that makes it look so much like a pipe wrench! There are a lot of historic buldings in the area that make it stand out(in a bad way-to me) in the area. They dropped the historic Montagu Hotel on Jan. 20th to build that. The Greeks who owned it let it run down and let vagrants move in with a 'last ditch' effort to revitalize it in the last couple years, so their $30K+ CHILLERS are now RUBBLE!!!! Construction hasn't begun and there's nothing but equipment and a huge hole in the ground from the basement. There are a lot of BEAUTIFUL historic buildings in downtown Houston that are being crowded out by plain tall glass buildings! :bash:

It's 3rd Ward, so yeah, a little bit. Hasn't really turned out to be much of a nuisance really, at least not during the day... but drive down Scott St. and you will notice everything looks pretty dilapidated and there are people just wandering around on the streets. At least it's not 5th Ward.
