Martin G July 7th, 2006, 01:02 AM Rather you than me, Simon, rather you than me!
Now was I just imagining it or did I really hear Annie Lennox singing "Leaving me the recollection of your heavenly erection!!!" on the radio just a moment ago?? :runaway:
mahill July 7th, 2006, 01:29 AM :bash: feels like christmas got cancelled doesn't it, foolish of me but I was looking forward to some concrete news today, damn you FLD!
hammerb24 July 7th, 2006, 03:49 AM Leave FLD alone!
Looking through the recent updates on AC, one thing that struck me was the talk of a hotel coming on board. Could it be that this is the hopld up ? If a hotel came on baord than the tower can be built to its maximum height, if not then we may get a shorter version ? Just a thought......
FLD July 7th, 2006, 12:40 PM I am sure the renders will come but I think I missed something, did FLD say he was posting the new images etc, in which case has anybody pm'd him to see exactly how he has access to this info before assuming he is who he whispers he is?
No, I haven't got access to any images, I am just getting it 'word-of-mouth' from people that have a connection in some way shape or form with this development. 6th July was banded about a couple of weeks ago, I don't know what the hold up is. I'm as disappointed as the next person, but news is imminent ....... & if I am not being led up the garden path, the news is pretty damn good!
SimLim July 7th, 2006, 12:47 PM The thing is FLD you're not telling us anything we dont/didnt already know. We knew we were going to hear things this year. What the respectable height was going to be etc, etc.
If you're not certain about aspects, maybe its best if you just talk the common talk like the rest of us so you dont get everyone all excited. Having inside info is good, but only when its accurate.

I hear what you are saying Sim, & I did think about not saying anything .... but it is very tempting when you know of people that are a lot closer to this project than either you or me are. You'd probably have done the same if you were in my position.
All I can say is, else divorce proceedings may ensue, the wraps will be coming off the main tower sooner rather than later.
U475 Foxtrot July 7th, 2006, 05:19 PM I know how tempting it can be. I'm often privy to exciting early news but I tend not saying anything till it's in the public realm.
Recently I did some exciting work for one of the retail outlets that will be moving to the CUBE which was quite cool. I also did some nice stuff for the NEC which failed to happen. Bio posted some of the renders of the scheme yesterday.
AC will happen when it's ready and I'm looking forward to coming back from my hols to see it along with a rash of other intresting proposals.

Erebus555 July 7th, 2006, 10:36 PM ^^It would be nice but it'll never happen :(

cookoid_0 July 8th, 2006, 02:03 AM I propose we pass the time whilst we wait for a render by inventing dildo shaped alternative renders of our new super duper mega tower. Here is my entry, check out the landscaping.

wjfox July 8th, 2006, 02:06 AM This was proposed for London a few years back.

Very fitting (dont get wrong idea with that) as Birmingham searched for the word porn on Google than any other city on the planet.
woodhousen July 8th, 2006, 01:49 PM anyone remember arena cenral?????
SimonTheSoundMan July 8th, 2006, 03:33 PM Arena?
cookoid_0 July 8th, 2006, 03:37 PM Aww damn I forgot to make the bellend bit rotate to house a revolving restaurant.
That'll teach me to invent ground breaking achicitecture for Brum when I am pissed.
Sorry woodhousen I bet you thought it was one of your other forums for a minute :jk:
Martin G July 8th, 2006, 03:40 PM anyone remember arena cenral?????
Never heard of arena cenral, Woody......
....but we do remember Arena CENTRAL....wasn't THAT a fleeting figment of every Brum Forumer's imagination......up until the 6th July 2006 that is, when everyone suddenly ceased to be interested anymore?
SimonTheSoundMan July 8th, 2006, 03:50 PM I need a hand getting some Lego from the Lego store at Bullring. I think I'll get started on this 175m tower. Anyone?
Erebus555 July 8th, 2006, 06:04 PM If we do not get any news within the next month, I will go on the warpath to get this tower built. I'm going to power-email every investor, developer and person who is associated in some way to the creation of this tower. I will get closer than FLD ever dreamt. I just hope they don't make me design the tower myself... I might pass Martin G's name to them though.
Martin G July 8th, 2006, 09:40 PM Just build the fucking thing to MY design shall we, yeah?
For fucks sakes! :|

Martin G for Lord Mayor of Birmingham!!
Erebus555 July 8th, 2006, 09:55 PM ^^Hell yeh!
Bachy Soletanche July 8th, 2006, 10:37 PM I did think up a design, a bit like a wider freedom tower crossed with Alpha.
Flat sides for 110 Meters or so, (to echo and slight overtower Alpha) then tapering to about a third of the width in with the spire on top.
Alas I have no computer drawing skills, and I can't get my hands on a scanner for a pencil job today, and I can't draw either.
Erebus555 July 8th, 2006, 10:41 PM If you drew it and could scan (which I know you can't) I could make a model of it on Sketchup.
Bachy Soletanche July 8th, 2006, 11:00 PM If you drew it and could scan (which I know you can't) I could make a model of it on Sketchup.
I did just try drawing it, and it turned out worse that I though it would!
Just image a less taped (pointer)
http://www.jades.org/arc/elite/gecko.jpg
stuck on top of Alpha!
Erebus555 July 8th, 2006, 11:03 PM Hmm... thats a tricky one.

Ah, Frontier if I am not mistaken - you indulge MR Robinson?
SimonTheSoundMan July 8th, 2006, 11:28 PM I have a copy of Catia around somewhere.... For PC though, and I'm on a Mac.
Bachy Soletanche July 9th, 2006, 10:11 AM Elite, not Frontier, I'm old skool. Cough...
Anyway, after staying up all night, and on my 34 draft (beer) I've scribbled it out:

Bachy Soletanche July 9th, 2006, 10:20 AM My mistake, that's a sidewider, not a Gekco...
I've got a Acorn 4000 or something at work, that may just go home with me when the place shuts down next week...
Best version of Elite ever. Aparently...

Steve-e-b July 9th, 2006, 02:50 PM Oh the agony! This is the second time this week I've browsed this thread and got all excited about a render only to read the post properly and discover the picture is not from Miller but one of us forumers.
Steve-e-b July 9th, 2006, 02:59 PM Okay, assuming we can lay our hands on enough lego, which one should we build?
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a366/robinsonworld/AC.jpg
http://tinypic.com/16ban81.jpg
SimonTheSoundMan July 9th, 2006, 03:04 PM Humm, if it was Manchester I'd go for the 5 year old kiddie drawing like Stephen's. In Birmingham we do not build things like Beetham and others that look like they have been designed by children, so Martin's it is. :D
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 03:19 PM Martin's drawing is the one for me. How about we try something without lego. We need to a bit of pride into it.
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 03:33 PM STEPHEN ROBINSON! I PRESENT TO YOU! YOUR VERY OWN SKYSCRAPER!
OK, its basic and the colour scheme is a bit off but my colourblindness kinda contributes to that. The design is the best I could do with your... drawing. Hope you like it! I wouldn't care if you didn't, it only took the best part of 5 minutes.

Well, I am only 6!
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 04:25 PM ^^That explains some things.
Bachy Soletanche July 9th, 2006, 04:30 PM Well I think you're all very rude!
Lets see your plans then.
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 04:41 PM Dont say the pictures are :redx:
Bachy Soletanche July 9th, 2006, 05:03 PM Dont say the pictures are :redx:
Oh, no sorry I meant before every one slags my plans off for being a bit rubbish, which let's face it they are, they should at least get their bollocks on the table* and show me something they've designed.
I think mine needs a more curved front and back bit, maybe even making it a rather flat oval than a Manchester* shape. and the spire wasn't really deigned, that was going to be finished later.
* so to speak
**square box.
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 05:19 PM I would show you my designs but I dont want them to get stolen and used by some architect who then puts his name on it.

cookoid_0 July 9th, 2006, 06:37 PM Are you using google Sketch up or something there Ereb?
Hey dont slag Stephens work off all those poncy designers do mad sketches first. Its all part of the arty farty thing. Remember the sketchs for the Cube?
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 07:01 PM ^^Yeh, that's Sketchup.
You dont get PONCY designers putting "Repec the (C)" all over their work.
Bachy Soletanche July 9th, 2006, 09:03 PM ^^Yeh, that's Sketchup.
You dont get PONCY designers putting "Repec the (C)" all over their work.
You would if they were as hip as they think they are, like what I is.
Next time I'm getting drunk before drawing anything, at least I'll have an excuse..
Erebus555 July 9th, 2006, 09:32 PM You still havent told me what you though of the model. I went out of my way to do that for you!
cookoid_0 July 9th, 2006, 10:02 PM Hey I know were a bit off topic but lets face it we need to pass the time but this Sketch up is wicked. It only takes a short time to learn. I got a bit carried away this baby is 237 metres.

Sorry!
It's a pretty good COmputerization of a rubbish drawing! I can really see where I've gone wrong! Thanks for taking your time to make the pictures.
I think it's (my plans) got promise, if I get time at work tommorrow I'll have a go at this Google Sketch or whatever.

You've been rumbled Stephen. Back of the classroom and five hours detention for you!
Steve-e-b July 10th, 2006, 09:50 PM I think it's (my plans) got promise, if I get time at work tommorrow I'll have a go at this Google Sketch or whatever.
I like your design Stephen, it doesn't need any more elaboration (jus' give it to the builders and work can start work tomorrow).
I particularly like the way it complements Alpha tower and using an inter-stellar-spacecraft to crown the building would be a world first!
Martin G July 11th, 2006, 12:23 AM I take it we're indulging here cos the so-called "exclusive" that FLD was banging on about failed to materialise - as EVERYBODY HERE correctly predicted of course.
What a farce. So - it's coming up to a week on now and what is new? :|
Steldemetriou July 11th, 2006, 01:29 PM Civic arts have put the posts report in its news section, surely we will see something soon!

Erebus555 July 11th, 2006, 08:38 PM ^^That's the Estates Gazette article isn't it?
morestoreysplease July 11th, 2006, 09:50 PM Forget 92 degrees F Martin G - we're on PAGE 92!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Page 1 mentions something about Pompei and how it will emerge from the lava.....
MJH July 12th, 2006, 02:50 PM I'm intrigued from the article, what "local Influence" do you think Kuhne will include in the Arena Central Tower?
I would like to think it would be bowing a modernist hat to the "Birmingham Style" so prevalent in the late 19th century, but he probably means building something huge, shite and concrete.
SimLim July 12th, 2006, 04:46 PM Forget squeezed in toothpaste tube, its gonna be a skyscraper in the shape of a HP sauce bottle.
van heckler July 12th, 2006, 05:02 PM That's not a nice shape
Biosonic July 12th, 2006, 05:03 PM ^^That's going to be Dutch, not Brummie
I think a large prophylactic might help with population control.

delores July 13th, 2006, 06:08 AM Without starting a tirade of chit chat does anyone know TRUTHFULLY when some images of this scheme will come to light??
wjfox July 13th, 2006, 09:00 AM This is turning into the most boring thread ever.
Bachy Soletanche July 13th, 2006, 09:37 AM Turning? we're on page 92, and we had no news really since the late 1990s.
woodhousen July 13th, 2006, 10:13 AM why are peopel just talking in here when there is no news to be had.... its a boring thread because there is very little being said about arena central......
no, back to the topic or go to the skybar
Erebus555 July 13th, 2006, 08:26 PM I got some new hope for the skyline of Birmingham. Sadly Arena Central is not involved. I will reveal as much as I know... later.
Martin G July 14th, 2006, 01:52 AM Woodhouse, FLD was banging on about some "exclusive hold the front page and strip down to your g-strings and parade in centenary square waving a sombrero in a suggestive fashion, yee haa!!!" news a whole fucking week ago but true to form and almost as inevitable as the trains running even later than usual whenever a bit of sunny warm weather comes along - he hasn't satiated people's curiosity and come back with ANYTHING of the sort in all this time. And people have now started berating him for being the huge cock-tease that he probably doesn't realise his previous pronouncement has made him become. Can you blame people for losing their patience with this whole fucking saga?
I mean, come on now, we have seriously got to have a new thread speculating on which scheme is going to actually happen first - Arena Bloody Central or the fucking New Street Station redevelopment. It's getting harder by the day to decide which of the two is going to hold more water.
And you wonder why people are getting restless. 25 years ago this week, Toxteth, Brixton, St Pauls and Moss Side were all aflame with dispossessed folks hacked off with the police fucking them around and treating them like lower forms of life.....now SSC's Birmingham forum may just undergo a similar kind of social uprising as a direct result of Arena Central revealing itself to be a two legged donkey with audacious aspirations on which it is failing to deliver. The backlash could be just as fierce and devastating. Ignore the simmering discontentment at your peril!

For goodness sake, get yourself another hobby before it kills you!! Things are about to happen with Arena Central, & others, Birmingham will be awash with cranes in 6 months time!!!

I agree with Martin. You keep telling us stuff we already knew but spice it up a little to make us wet ourselves and jump around like little shits. We're the stupid ones for falling for it, but it's what makes Brummies so damn nice. We're gullable even when its obvious that we're on the way towards a fooling.
Lets just leave this thread until news arrives then it will be a nice suprise rather then clicking on this thread everyday to find us losers talking like losers, on a loser of a building.

I hope that when there is some concrete news, we'll have a new thread, so we can use one of these >> :deadthrea
AJR July 14th, 2006, 03:40 PM When I first saw images of Arena Central all those years ago, 175m really impressed me. Now it is 2006 and it will take something like 200m to really impress me, unless it is of an excepional design.

Oi gangsta I promised myself not to reply to this thread until there was news. You've made me break that already. Bad person.
Right. Ladies, Gentleman and the odd Chimp. Something to wet the apetite. "Imagine its a cold frosty March morning, The sun is slowly rising with the smoke from the traffic billowing out. You follow the smoke to see a 200m tower crane hovering over the Alpha tower and a concrete frame of Birminghams first true skyscraper. Arena Square Tower. The cladding is up to the 27th floor and everywhere you look its a hive of activity. You decide to treat yourself and aim to get a better view. You head to the Birmingham Wheel. 7 minutes later your 60m in the air face to face with floor 20 of Brums tallest tower. You cant take your eyes of the beast but then all of a sudden you see a glint in the corner of your eye. You turn round to see a 40 storey skyscraper almost complete along Broad Street. You piss yourself" ...
Believe.
Biosonic July 14th, 2006, 04:25 PM You piss yourself?
Ugh.
SimLim July 14th, 2006, 04:36 PM Like I said Bio. Believe.
Biosonic July 14th, 2006, 05:15 PM You forgot Cube
pauliewalnuts July 14th, 2006, 05:53 PM Oi gangsta I promised myself not to reply to this thread until there was news.
You piss yourself" ...
.
.. and then you hop into your intergalactic personal iShuttle and fly home at 2000mph, as it is in fact the year 2058.
SimonTheSoundMan July 14th, 2006, 06:25 PM I hope that when there is some concrete news, we'll have a new thread, so we can use one of these >> :deadthrea
This thread will never die.
SimLim July 14th, 2006, 07:10 PM 93 PAGES ON ONE TOWER AND WE DONT EVEN HAVE A RENDER. MAYBE SSC COULD GIVE AWARDS FOR THE MOST PATIENT CITY FORUMERS.

Pathetic isn't it.
Erebus555 July 14th, 2006, 10:34 PM ^^We're building up tension. It'll be worth it in the end. If you talk so down about Birmingham then maybe you should stick to your own forum.
ROYAL BLUE July 14th, 2006, 10:53 PM Easy son....Wills a mod!
Also a good forumer, just frustrated like the rest of us i guess!

I dont think he was calling the Brummie forumers pathetic. I think he was reffering more to the developers for not pulling their finger out. This is bound to get talked about, thats what this forum is for.

Martin G July 22nd, 2006, 01:48 AM It's as alive as alive could possibly be.
Thank fuck for the newly-built Osbourne Tower then! :|
zigmonster July 22nd, 2006, 02:11 AM arena central has now made it onto the Eric Kuhne website, albeit only the press section. nothing new of course, just the estate gazette & post articles. i've never seen a picture of Mr Kuhne before but he appears very jolly and has an awesome pair of glasses...

stupid CAA
SimLim July 22nd, 2006, 12:41 PM He has a very "strange" body which to me looks like his eaten a few to many pies. Who knows. It could just be the camara that makes him look funny.
Also has anyone else noticed the uncanny resembalence to Peter Griffin?

I thought he looked more like John Goodman, actually.
Has anyone ever seen them in the same room together?
Erebus555 July 22nd, 2006, 05:03 PM Maybe the tower will be shaped like him? We were told of two bulges. So I'm thinking the top bulge are the man-boobs and the second will be the ghastly gut.
SimonTheSoundMan July 22nd, 2006, 06:43 PM Oh my, he is Peter Griffin!
He will now on these forums be known a 'Peter'.
That's official!
Martin G July 23rd, 2006, 11:27 PM He also resembles John Prescott in profile and the way he has no neck but several chins instead. How FUCKING IRONIC IS THAT EH?? The very man who scaled down the tower in the beginning and now the mastermind of the new proposal is reminiscent of him.
SimonTheSoundMan July 26th, 2006, 12:46 AM *bump*
Smileyface July 26th, 2006, 12:52 AM *bump*
This is one thread that doesn't deserve bumping
SimonTheSoundMan July 26th, 2006, 01:12 AM Nahh, it will get bumped up with nonsense by somebody eventually.
woodhousen July 27th, 2006, 05:53 PM a very interesting cabinet report here from this week
http://80.86.36.120/vault/XDDocStore_5/0165883_Arena%20Central%20public%20.pdf
it would seem to suggest the following
* The tower is to be the first element of the scheme as this report is only considring the tower
* The report is to gain approval for the council to get into negotiations with AC for the elase of the site to allow the development to progress
* an acknoweldgement this this has to be done ASAP so not to hold up the development
* a masterplan is to be issued before a lease agreed.
* the council wish on terms of the lease that the tower will be develovered in an appropriote time scale ......
....the council really are pushing this ahead!!!!!!
Erebus555 July 27th, 2006, 06:01 PM Its all good news this week! BST just keeps on growing, Digbeth Coach station (even though I hate it) has been given the go ahead with only one person objecting to it and New Street is getting some decent news. I'll sleep easy tonight.
Biosonic July 27th, 2006, 06:40 PM Very interesting Woody - good find!
Did they install the stuff on Alpha Tower then? Does this mean demo can commence easily?
What is worth noting is that Arena Central LLP was formed in Feb 2004. So in terms of Miller & Bridghouse, this has only been going for 2.5 years. Not bad really.
Erebus555 July 27th, 2006, 06:42 PM Woody, did you find that pdf off the page I gave you?
woodhousen July 27th, 2006, 07:28 PM ^^^ yes, you just needed to delv a little deep mate lol
SimonTheSoundMan July 30th, 2006, 03:59 PM Thanx woody.
Erebus555 July 30th, 2006, 07:37 PM Just read a document and it says that now that whilst Labour was in power Arena Central wasn't seen as a long term strategy and therefore was not worked on but now we have the new one it has been upgraded as a long term strategy and is being pushed for along with the Paradise Circus development.
Erebus555 July 30th, 2006, 07:56 PM A company called AIMS has been appointed to coordinate and programme the submission of the planning application for AC. http://www.aimsltd.co.uk/projects.aspx (Bottom of page)
Biosonic July 31st, 2006, 10:49 AM Well, they are working on the QE Hospital which is surely a good sign!
Canadian Chocho August 3rd, 2006, 03:00 AM 95 F*CKIN' PAGES!!! ARE YOU GUYS GOING FOR 100 OR SOMETHING?!?!?!
Brummie Nick August 3rd, 2006, 10:21 AM Yeah 95 pages in nearly a year, the thread was started on August 5th 2005.
SimonTheSoundMan August 3rd, 2006, 10:28 AM 95 F*CKIN' PAGES!!! ARE YOU GUYS GOING FOR 100 OR SOMETHING?!?!?!
And we know no more information than we did since post 1. :bash:

I have some rusty secateurs at home if they are any good?
Erebus555 August 3rd, 2006, 11:50 AM Hey, we know that BCC are going into negotiations with Arena Central developments. AC is back on the rails that means. And talking of rails, AC have payed £5mil towards the Metro system to be connected to the site.
SimLim August 3rd, 2006, 12:25 PM August. AC still as clear as Titans lakes. Same old, Same old.
Biosonic August 3rd, 2006, 01:03 PM Titan's lakes are full of liquid methane and ethane aren't they :?
SimLim August 3rd, 2006, 02:09 PM So they think. They could also be Tar.
SimonTheSoundMan August 4th, 2006, 01:31 AM So, let's sum this thread up...
