do the canals link with the sea yet?
dysan1
September 7th, 2005, 03:32 PM
Nope. That will only come about with the completion of the second phase of canals, the locks and the construction of the marina...so access to the sea will only be in 2009/10

Residents are now moving in and furnishing the apartments. It will be the first place to be occupied in the point! Many flats are being used for holiday rentals this summer

Wouldnt fancy moving in right now tho cos it would be like living in a giant construction site!

It's far better than the rendering!
I was going to ask, are they keeping that derelict building nearby? I sure hope they use it for something, because it's ten times better to have some old buildings around... even that one old crapbox alone (fixed up of course) would make such a difference to what would otherwise be one big bunch of new, unestablished buildings...
Are they keeping it?

The box that giles commented on? ...its being fixed up, and they arent demolishing it. It shares the site with East Point, and from what i'm told, it is going to be a garden nursery and cafe...

Yo Dysan, for a marketing student you really like your buildings hey, you should have done architecture or something & how did you manage to get a ride on the canals on the point? Do you have any info on whe Point Bay is begining construction? & is 1.17 still alive, becasue I heard rumors that the project wasnt going to be built, I had a hand in the design on 1.17, & the flats are the most spacious flats from all on the point, smallest was 120sqm & the biggest flat (not penthouse) was 235sqm & the prices were reasonable!
I am going for a roof wetting party at Ridegeton Towers on Wednesday, hopefully I can take some pics & post it on the website!

Thanx man! Yeh marketing flows in my blood, but i'm passionate about urban development and design, just could never be an architect cos marketing comes first and foremost!
From what i hear, 1.17 has been canned, to be replaced by Centre Point. No renderings on that one yet, but i know they plan to launch b4 xmas.
Ridgeton is coming on well!! that new crane they put up was huge! that building is primarily commercial hey? Must start a thread for it!
Point Bay was supposed to start in Nov...but nothing yet...

Yeh, I was also doing the elec design work for Point Bay, but the project was stalling because they were waiting for more flats to be sold, not sure on whats happening now, never hear anything from the architect.
Ridgeton towers, the ground floor is totaly commercial, only shops, level 1 is only offices, then levels 2-9 is residential. on the 4th level there is a common pool, the pool is quite big, but because of the enormous size of the building, the pool looks small on plan! As for the project on the whole, its ahead of schedule, the building contractors are really pushing it.
PS: they extending Ballito Lifestyle again! more on that soon
